Technology Us Dumb
Why technology is making us dumb
Have your parents ever told you that TV will rot your brain, or pulled a, Back in my day on you?
Ridiculous, right? Well, I believe that your parents might be right. Today, I will present evidence that
supports my claim that technology is making people s IQs drop considerably . So first we ll talk about
how technology is making us dumb is because of the decreasing of our ability to think deeply. Next I
ll tell you what environment you must be in to enter deep thinking.Last but not least i`ll talk about
why it is almost impossible to not get distracted while doing work on a computer. The first way that

Deep thinking can only happen if there is no distractions. When you use electronics for schoolwork,
you are most likely to get distracted by music, notifications,or text messages. Each of the these
distractions will throw your focus off. This is proven in Article B when the author says, The Net
bombards us with messages and other bits of data, and everyone of those interruptions break our train
of thought. This is important because it shows that electronics are beneficial in some ways, but in the
long run, they will make your life more difficult. Finally, I would like to talk about why it is almost
impossible to not get distracted while doing work on a computer.Google doesn t want you to slow
down and focus on one thing. If Google entices you to click on more links, then Google can play more
ads. This is proven in Article B when the author says, The faster we zip across the Web, clicking links
and skimming words and pictures, the more ads Google is able to show us and the more money it
makes. This shows that Google thrives off of our inability to focus. So, parents, the next time your
kids don t believe you when you tell them that technology rots your brain, show them this evidence,
and they might listen. The statements from this article will give you the evidence you need to

Reflection About Technology
How do you relate to technology? You might have been asked this question before, but even if you
haven t this is a question that everyone could answer; there just might be different ways to answer. For
me, when people ask how I relate to technology my mind cannot help but go to my iPhone and all the
apps that I scroll through all the time, and yes, even when I am in the restroom. (we have all done this
before). My favorite part about my cell phone and the applications that I am offered is the question
itself; they allow me to relate a technology that everyone has some knowledge about to something that
I am passionate about, the gospel. There are many apps on my cell phone that I enjoy, but only a few
can keep me so entertained that I can hardly put my phone down to go to sleep at night. Usually, when
I am bored, I quickly scroll through my phone to see an application that is going to satisfy me for the
next 20 minutes of my life. Until, I get bored of that as well, but when it comes to the applications that
are teaching me about God, I become deeply Intrigued and encouraged by what I am reminded. It s
like a buffet, I start at the salad line and keep walking hoping there is something else that is better, and
when I get to the dessert boy am I the happiest girl in the world!
We have all made a phone call at one point our lives, and if you haven t, you probably know someone
who has. Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced FaceTime on June 7, 2010, in conjunction with the iPhone

Pros And Cons Of The Two Party System
Left Wing, Right Wing, Broken Wing
Have you ever considered the American government is corrupt, even though they claim to uphold
certain American values? The two party system is just that: corrupt. Right now, the government offers
two parties, and even though it has its benefits, it has a lot more weaknesses. Although the two party
system offers stability and accessibility for citizens, it is broken and needs to be drastically changed
for the government to be actually of the people, by the people, for the people. The two party system
was born after the American revolution, when our representatives for each colony chose sides between
federalists and antifederalists. This later became what we know today as the Democratic party and the
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two party system needs to be changed or completely abolished, because it offers limited ideas and
opinions to run the country. The two parties have their own perspectives on issues such as gun control
or abortion; Craig Goodman of the University of Houston claims he doesn t think it s very democratic.
Why should you exclude someone because they are a small number, and they don t get to express
themselves? (Cargo 1). The two party does not allow the middle ground or smaller parties to really
have a say (Mathias 4). Most voters only know the leading independent and the two party nominees.
Kate Cargo describes the two party system leaves voter with low quality ideas and frankly, low quality
candidates (Cargo 1) while the third party candidate could have a great compromise on a hot issue, it
will never see the light of day. While the two party system does allow people to have easy access to
the opinions of the parties on these issues, it does not make up for the limited options we have. As a
country we need to have as many options as possible even if they are extreme. Accessibility is
important, but it should never limit our options.
Along with giving us limited opinions and ideas, the two party system often offers a repeat of
candidates. Hillary Clinton has ran for the office of president

Modern Day Zeppelins Or Airships
Have you ever seen a modern day zeppelin or more commonly known as airships? Probably not.
Zeppelins were once very popular. People all over the world wanted to fly on them, until the well
known zeppelin called the Hindenburg went up in flames. Today, there are companies that are trying
to bring back the airships that are safer for the world to use. There are many reasons that zeppelins or
airships could be very popular again. One reason they could be popular again is because they are safe
and good fro the environment. Modern day airships would use helium, a nonflammable gas, instead of
Hydrogen, the very flammable hydrogen. Helium is environment friendly, unlike hydrogen, which
was used in the 1930 s zeppelins. That is how the Hindenburg

Bad Hooks Catch No Fish
Bad Hooks Catch No Fish
A good hook is what, best, brings a reader into any form of writing. If not, then all could be lost,
unless it is mentally forced upon. This is especially true for a novice, or introductory, reader getting
into the finer aspects of literature or composition. Such as, Paul Rankin s (2005) essay, on Hemingway
s Hills like White Elephants, lacks a motivated lead. The opening transition word could throw a reader
in the opposite direction Rankin would have hoped for. The beginning paragraphs poor lead could
cause one to become lost before the revelation of thesis which makes a poor asset to novice readers.
With the opening word Although (Rankin, p. 234) would make sense if a complete thought was
presented prior. It leaves one to ask, what this complete though could be. With this lingering thought
of what was the original, paves the way for a very complex sentence, which is still a continuation of
the leading thought. Now for someone venturing into the literary scene, to read a sentence of this
magnitude, could become hesitant to continue. Although, the composition of the first sentence is
artful, it could still be a hard read. Which, from a scholar s perspective is refreshing and at par. But the
little guy becoming a scholar has not earned his letterman mark yet. It is wise to be careful into
reading a sentence with complex composition of over 100 words. Additionally, the first sentence, a
summation of multiple views could introduce a novice

Women s Roles in Television
√Over the last 60 years may things have changed; technology, traditions, culture, and of
course the way a female is seen in eyes around the world. Television itself dates back to the 1920 s
(these television sets were extremely limited during these years). In 1950, only 9 percent of
American households had a television set, but by the 1960 the figure had reached 90 percent.
During this time, women were introduced in a completely diverted way then a male actor. Women
took stereotypical roles such as the housewife, mother, maid or even nanny. While other women
took on a role of a dumb blonde or a petite young women trying to please a man. Women were
meant to be submissive, obedient, and futile. In the past, TV portrayed women as sex ... Show more

She was an American actress known for being the ultimate sex icon.
Marilyn Monroe was society s way of showing the importance on being attractive, and how a
woman should look. Marilyn wasn t a petite women, but had beautiful curves and flawless skin.
She was known mostly for her body rather than her personality, unlike women in modern
television. Women today are known for their independence and their equality. Ladies from
Marilyn and Lucy s time came a long way, in some shows and/or movies women are now playing
major roles and even hosting their own talk show. Today, women aren t expected to be physically
fit or attractive but rather than good at what they do and love it.
The difference between all these ladies is that Lucy and June are more of the ideal mother
from the 1950 s. The white, middle class mothers who are thought to clean and cook in white
pearls and pastel pressed dresses. Although, Sandy and Rizzo are the ones to objectify the male
fantasy these ladies had a rebellion tone to their personalities, more outgoing and independent. All
these ladies showed dramatic changes over the short years. Now ladies all around the world are
hosting, producing, acting, and even directing.
Another difference between these ladies is that Lucy and June were mothers. In classic
television women did paly a domestic guardian of the household duties. In classic television, there
was another stereotype of how parenting and marriage are more

Mnemonic Strategies In Alan Walkers Multiplication In A Flash

These programs claim success when using their methods. Although only one is a free programs, the
other is claimed to be worth the money. Through step by step lesson plans, Alan Walkers

Applying this process in a classroom may look like showing students the mnemonic techniques in
Multiplication in a Flash that teaches the zero, one, two, five, and nine times tables with at least two
other different strategies and then allowing the children can choose the one they like best. Once the
students have been introduced to strategies for solving the remaining multiplication facts, pictures,
stories, and rhymes could be shown that are the second part of the Multiplication in a Flash program.
This could be a strengthening and helpful aid for students to be able to memorize their multiplication
tables. Imagine the procedures of this program; first students learning strategies to solve multiplication
facts, and then this program is added in as an aid or reinforcement. An observation of this process
would hopefully look like an activity or review to reinforce the concepts of the multiplication facts
students should have already grasped. The strategies from the program could easily be introduced
while teaching the multiplication facts and wouldn t take much time to implement. The strategies
could be used in centers because most of them are stories or have activities attached to them. This
definitely sounds like a beneficial

The Article Evil And Omnipotence
1. In the article Evil and Omnipotence, J. L. Mackie outlines the problem of evil as being the result of
three statements which are logically inconsistent with each other, where if any two were true then, in
turn, the third would have to be false. The first statement of the problem of evil is God is omnipotent,
the second God is all good, and the third evil exists. The problem of evil assumes that omnipotence
means there are no limits to God s power, that good is opposed to evil in the sense that anything all
good would seek to eliminate as much evil as possible, and that therefore an omnipotent and all good
being should aim to completely eliminate evil.
2. In the article God and Evil, H. J. McCloskey distinguishes a difference between moral evils and
physical evils. Moral evils are a product of human free will and are capable of a greater intensity of
human emotion and reaction than natural evils. On a small scale, moral evils are acts and feelings of
selfishness, deception, murder, rape, torture, and theft. On a larger scale, moral evils would be acts of
genocide, war, and corporate malpractice. Physical or natural evils are evils of the natural world,
meaning of the earth and animal kingdom. They can range from inhospitable geographies such as
cliffs and deserts, dangerous animals, pests, and parasites such as lions, poisonous spiders, mosquitos,
and viruses, natural calamities such as tsunamis, hurricanes, or earthquakes, diseases such as leprosy

Challenges of Religious Pluralism Essay
For centuries, religion in America has been more of a family affair. What this means is that despite the
different groupings, almost all major religions have been united under the same American experience.
Almost all the main religious denominations have been required to conform to the dictates of
Protestantism. Maybe this has been derived from the belief that almost all of these groupings have
been responsible for shaping America as we know it today. However, many things have happened in
the past few decades to change the way religions have been conducting themselves. One theme that
has overly changed over the years is that of pluralism. For many years, America has been a haven of
different groupings of people. The British immigration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This philosopher incorporated the grouping of Aristotle in to Christianity. According to this law, all
important human principles have a proper reason that is dictated by nature. An example of this is
sexual intercourse whose main goal is procreation. The church has repeatedly fought the use of
contraceptives as a means of family planning arguing that it contravenes Gods purpose of procreation.
To devout Catholics, this is a sign of immorality and should therefore be fought by all people of good
will. Influence from outside has caused scholars in the church to question such things as sexuality in
its different forms. This has called the church to realize, that society has changed and that there is need
for the church to change too. Another area where the Catholic Church has modified its activities to suit
European notions is on the issue of penance. Traditionally, the practice was administered on a very
personal basis. In the process of penitents, those seeking forgiveness, would kneel in a specially made
box known as the confessional. Usually, this box consisted of screens that divided the priest and the
penitent. This was meant to create an air of anonymity between the two. The priest would then order
the penitent to offer a set of prayer or observe other religious rituals for the forgiveness to take effect.
However, over the years, people have criticized this move as too impersonal. This practice has been
modified and today the practice

Juliet takes her mothers line The County Paris, at Saint Peter s Church shall happily make you there a
joyful bride. Juliet changes it to a negative, responding to her mother with By Saint Peter s Church
and Peter too, he shall not make me there a joyful bride. Therefore this shows Juliet is completely
against marrying Paris and does not agree that Paris will make her a Joyful bride . At this point Juliet s
mother is outsmarted by Juliet s intelligence and responds with Here comes your father. Tell him so
yourself, and see how he will take it at your hands. This shows that Lady Capulet does not have
control over her daughter and passes it over to Lord Capulet to deal with because she is weak and is
frightened of her husband because he is controlling. Then Juliet s father enters and he is furious that
Juliet is refusing to marry Paris. Shakespeare shows this by using rhetorical questions, by using
rhetorical questions this shows that Lord Capulet is not willing to give Juliet a chance to speak or
answer any of his questions. Lord Capulet s anger results in him threatening Juliet. He uses the phrase
My fingers itch. This means he wants to hit Juliet because she has refused to marry Paris. Juliet feels
so angry she is acting strong and she defies her father, but in that action she learns the limit of her
power. Disobedient as she

Transcendentalism and Deep Ecology
Transcendentalism has been linked to the birth of deep ecology, given the emotion and spiritual
philosophy that connects the two movements. Both transcendentalism and deep ecology romanticize
the natural world, and critique the way industrialization, modernization, and urbanization encroach on
ecological and spiritual purity. The eco centric worldview and value system espoused by deep ecology
has its roots in transcendentalism (Hicks, n.d.). Both transcendentalists and deep ecologists disparage
the ways individuals, communities, and whole cultures present the human being as being entitled to
rape and plunder the earth.
However critical they were of human activity and stupidity, the transcendentalists were not
misanthropes. The transcendentalists advocated for a better world, one that discarded ineffective and
corrupt forms of government in favor of a more just and egalitarian society. All were abolitionists, in
an era where slavery and sexism were both normative. Emerson advocated material and spiritual self
reliance over philanthropy as a means of self empowerment. He also criticized traditional types of
philanthropy as having a certain air of quackery, (Emerson, 1842). Philanthropy is often used as an
excuse to avoid doing the real work of transforming the self and the society, according to Emerson.
Thoreau promoted political activism in a more direct way than Emerson. In Civil Disobedience,
Thoreau advocated various forms of civil disobedience as a means of

Types of Relationships
Vinash Persad
Expository Essay Wk2
Three Types of Relationships Human relationships have always perplexed me. These seemingly
simple bonds between people can amount to so much and cause such commotion that lives change
drastically within minutes in these relationships. Especially in the fast changing world of today. In my
piece I am going to be telling you about the three types of relationships I see taking place. Over time, I
have asked myself three questions, finding the answers along the way, which is what I will be
explaining to you. To begin, how much does one compromise on self gratification for the sake of
commitment? Or should one compromise at all in the name of love? Finally, what happens when love
is found outside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compromising in the name love is just wrong to do; whatever the circumstances. This sort of actions
you would find in arranged marriages and usually it is the female that has to make this compromise
and suffer. A classic example of this type of relationship can be seen in arranged marriages in Indian
families, but these are not limited for Indian families in India; these can still be seen in American or
other parts of the world where Indian or Muslim families reside. Only true love can set them free of
this compromise but it just ends up in a big blunder because it would create a lot of friction and pose a
lot of questions. When someone truly loves, they expect to have it back in return. Not an act. Lastly,
what happens when love is found outside ones commitment? This to me is a sad thing but also a happy
thing when it is dealt with maturely and with much understanding. Regarding my earlier points;
imagine in this compromise that is made. It takes a true person to understand when love is found
outside a relationship by the compromising partner. Although the other party is strongly in love with
this person, they would understand that this was not their love story after all and should be happy that
their partner found theirs. Yes it is a sad thing to happen in a relationship, but when one understands
the meaning of true love only then they can let go without any qualms. In conclusion I would

Sex is for pleasure and for fun. We all have our kinky fantasies that we may or may not seek out.
Sadism and masochism can arguably be considered something that is just for fun and a way of

So what exactly is a tavern wench ?
Well, it s basically a period costume but has many modern variations on the theme. A tavern wench is
a woman or girl that serves in a tavern, Inn or Pub. She is basically the focal point of many of the
patrons attentions because she either serves them a frosty brew , dispenses advice or is simply pleasing
on the eye.
A tavern wench from olden times might wear a peasant top with a bustier or corset on top. She will
wear an ankle length skirt. She may wear a cloth cap or bonnet. Her costume accentuates her figure
which she uses to charm the patrons of the tavern.
There are all sorts of tavern wench costumes that are more modern. These include Oktoberfest serving
wench costumes which are fairly accurate representations of the real servers at the annual Munich beer
festival. A derivation on this theme is the Lederhosen serving wench, who wears the knickerboker
pants and braces instead of a skirt. These costumes can be really sexy and ideal if you are the host of a

Private Prisons Vs. Federal Prisons
Private prisons are supposedly more cost effective than state or federal prisons. Or that is what their
representatives say. But regardless of whether they save money or not, are they truly beneficial for our
communities? This article hopes to break down some of the myths these private prison corporations
have used to push their agenda and discuss how that is far from the case. By doing so, the reader can
form his/her own conclusions on how pervasive and detrimental private prisons have become within
our communities. Additionally, by informing as many people as possible about the harmful effects of
privatizing the correctional system in our nation, we can soon hope to address some of the emerging
problems such as our increased prison populations, endangerment of prisoners staff personnel, and
whether it truly is cost effective.
However, before we can dive into the dilemmas that the prison industrial complex created we must
first define what they are and how did they originate within our country. First, the private prison
system is not a new phenomenon. Although the first appearances of these facilities are not the ones we
think of today, the private sector s involvement in incarcerating people emerged in the early eighteenth
century. These privately operated facilities, in part, gained popularity because they used the prisoners
as laborers, artisans, and other needed occupations in the community. By the mid nineteenth century,
providers constructed the modern private

Left Ventricular Hypertrophy
Left ventricular hypertrophy is defined as the increase in muscle mass of the left ventricle; It can be
hypertrophy of the muscle leading to a systolic HVG or a dilation of the muscle leading to diastolic
HVG. The diagnosis is suspected on the ECG and confirmed by ultrasound.
Among the causes of left ventricular hypertrophy are age, intensive practice of one or more sports,
obesity, prolonged hypertension.
The seriousness of hypertension arises from its impact on a number of organs (target organs). The
complications that can develop at their level explain the increased morbidity and mortality associated
with hypertension. The heart is one of the main target organs, and one of the first consequences of
elevated blood pressure (PA) is left ventricular

The Incredible Work of Jane Goodall Essay
Jane Goodall is a historical woman that has taught human beings not only about chimpanzees, but
human nature as well. This primatologist held on to a dream from childhood that advanced into reality.
Jane quietly and patiently observed chimps in Africa, and then recorded their every move. Many
important discoveries came about because of this. Jane Goodall has remarkably changed the
perception of chimpanzees and humans alike. Despite the fact that Jane Goodall s family was always
on the move, her childhood was exciting. She owned a few animals that she would frequently observe,
and record what they did. According to an online source, Jane always seemed to have an interest in all
kinds of animals (Early Days 1). When Jane was a child she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

First, Leakey had to get the funding for Jane. Goodall says in her book My Life with the
Chimpanzees, July 16, 1960, was a day I shall remember all my life. It was when I first set foot on the
shingle and sand beach of Chimpanzee Land that is Gombe National Park (57). It was as if all of her
dreams were finally coming true. It is said that Leakey picked Jane because she was patient and would
be able to observe for long periods of time. It was not long into Jane s research at Gombe that she
discovered that chimpanzees are resourceful enough to design their own tools (Facklam 40). The
chimps came up with clever and innovative ways to do this. They chewed leaves just enough to crush
them, put the leaf sponge into the water and soak it up, and sucked on the green sponge (Facklam 40).
Jane was very excited about this discovery that she instantly contacted Leakey to let him know. He
then said, we must redefine Man, redefine tool, or accept chimpanzees as humans (Goodall 802 )
Not only did Jane discover their tool making abilities, but also they eat both plants and animals, such
as bush pigs and termites (Goodall 1971). This fascinated many other primatologists because chimps
were once thought of as herbivores. Jane also realized chimpanzees seem to express the same feelings
humans do, though it is not certain (Goodall 598). Examples of such emotions are love, confusion,
fear, and aggression. They often show love and care to

Basis Of International Trade Essay
International trade is historically the oldest and most widespread form of external economic relations.
It is a movement of goods that represents a foreign exchange, that is, goods cross the boundaries of the
individual countries or economic unit. Foreign trade links the country s internal economy with the
world economy and fulfills important functions in the process of developing the productive forces and
international division of labor. (Markusen, 1995)
The basis of foreign trade is the realization of imports and exports of goods and services between the
domestic economy and other countries. The theoretical basis of foreign trade policy consists of
individual theories of foreign trade, which have been formed since the 18th century. These theories
were protectionist or liberal, depending on the objectives and the tools used. Each state has its own
foreign trade policy. Foreign trade policy to be defined as a set of principles and measures undertaken
by the state in the field of foreign trade using trade policy instruments. (Markusen, 1995)
The history of foreign trade relations in the world economy is linked to a dispute between the two
basic ties of trade policy. The first type is protectionism, whose supporters maintain a protectionist
approach and try to enforce trade barriers to foreign competition. The second type is liberalism, whose
supporters advocate free trade. (Reuvid Sherlock, 2004)
Free trade is defined as a system, where goods or services flows across the

so that they can go home and eat lunch. They pay no mind that they are eating lunch with blood on

As Living Beings, We Tend To Wonder About The Answer To
As living beings, we tend to wonder about the answer to our existence. What is my purpose? Who am
I? Why am I here? These questions that appear in our thoughts are probably due to encounters with
experiences of struggle. In every human being that has ever lived, struggle is part of life. It is an
obstacle that is faced every day. There are some who struggle more than others. It is a hardship they
endure and try to breakaway to be free from it. In many cases, struggling varies from one another.
Such as, the struggle to be free and the struggle to live. In United States of America, the nation is
known by many, and perhaps worldwide for its American Dream and being the Land of the Free, but
also for its shameful historical past of slavery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Role of the Supernatural in the Play Macbeth Essay
The Role of the Supernatural in the Play Macbeth
Fair is foul and foul is fair such a well known line from the play Macbeth, with such power behind the
words. I have reason to believe that the role of the supernatural plays a very important part in
Shakespeare s play Macbeth, we can say that the supernatural occurs 4 times throughout the play that
we can call supernatural because they are physically unnatural things to be seen, e.g. the appearance of
Banquo s ghost, the prophecies and the air drawn dagger etc. But I have gone further into depth to find
that the supernatural isn t just physically noticeable but also mentally through hallucination etc. I have
many reasons to believe this because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because of the history of the witches at the time that Shakespeare had written the play. At the
time that the play was written, there was a strong belief in the existence of witches, anyone that was
seen to do things differently or better than anyone else they were accused of being a witch, and it was
very offensive to be accused of being one. This therefore is the reason why the supernatural is a
recurring theme in many of his plays. That is why the supernatural is seen in many varied forms such
as the floating dagger, the witches and many more. With Macbeth s entrance in the play, he has a
reaction to the witches the same that anyone in the audience would have had too. He is shocked to see
them, but also wants to listen to the words that the witches speak because they talk about what
Macbeth has always desired. This reaction too would have been what the audience would have had,
and this draws them into the play further, as if they can feel what Macbeth too is feeling. I feel that
with the power of the audience in the play as well as the story seems almost supernatural in a way
because of the power that it holds. I feel that Shakespeare would have wanted this effect because of
the great impact that the audience get from watching the play.

Puddle Jumpers Airlines, Inc. is a new consumer airline in its formative stages. It is being organized to
take advantage of a specific gap in the short haul domestic travel market. The gap exists in low cost

Anytown hub coupled with the demand for passenger travel on selected routes from Anytown
indicates that a new entrant airline could be expected to capture a significant portion of current air
travel business at that hub.

profits. Also, rapid growth will be curtailed in order to keep maintenance standards both strict and

in 1996 dollars. This ASM factor places Puddle Jumpers in a grouping of the lowest four in the airline
industry within the short haul market. (US Air, the dominate carrier in the Anytown market, averages
12.0 cents per ASM by comparison). The only three airlines with lower operating costs also operate
older and less reliable equipment, and even then the lowest short haul cost in the airline industry is
currently Southwest at 6.43 cents per ASM.

The Sense Of Belonging Through Human Interaction
In one of the most well known masterpieces by Pink Floyd, Hey You , focused on one of the most
important aspects of human life the sense of belonging through human interaction. The lyric highlights
Roger Waters skill as a brilliant lyricist and composer, who reaches out to his audience with the
haunting melody and emotionally charged lyric. Waters has touched many lives with this piece by
explicitly emphasizing on the pain of desolation and disassociation. He constructs his dialogue based
on a life of his former bandmate Syd Barrett, whose life was severely affected by heavy drugs use,
social desolation, and ultimately developed into mental illness.
Waters introduces the audience to the song with the sound of an acoustic guitar in a low lying, gloomy,
yet captivating tone painting a picture of an eerie state of mind. He then grabs their attention by using
a bold holler and plea, Waters writes:
Hey you out there in the cold,
Getting lonely getting old,
Can you feel me?
The verse renders an image of isolation and desperation for human interaction and recognition.
Relatedness is one of the most important parts of basic human psychological needs; along with
competence and autonomy, they create a trifecta of conditions that must be met in order for human to
growth and integrate. Failure to satisfy these conditions can have negative impact on human emotion
and can ultimately demoralize and desolate us mentally (Deci, 2000). Waters then repeats the same
question at the

  • 2. Technology Us Dumb Why technology is making us dumb Have your parents ever told you that TV will rot your brain, or pulled a, Back in my day on you? Ridiculous, right? Well, I believe that your parents might be right. Today, I will present evidence that supports my claim that technology is making people s IQs drop considerably . So first we ll talk about how technology is making us dumb is because of the decreasing of our ability to think deeply. Next I ll tell you what environment you must be in to enter deep thinking.Last but not least i`ll talk about why it is almost impossible to not get distracted while doing work on a computer. The first way that technology is making us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Deep thinking can only happen if there is no distractions. When you use electronics for schoolwork, you are most likely to get distracted by music, notifications,or text messages. Each of the these distractions will throw your focus off. This is proven in Article B when the author says, The Net bombards us with messages and other bits of data, and everyone of those interruptions break our train of thought. This is important because it shows that electronics are beneficial in some ways, but in the long run, they will make your life more difficult. Finally, I would like to talk about why it is almost impossible to not get distracted while doing work on a computer.Google doesn t want you to slow down and focus on one thing. If Google entices you to click on more links, then Google can play more ads. This is proven in Article B when the author says, The faster we zip across the Web, clicking links and skimming words and pictures, the more ads Google is able to show us and the more money it makes. This shows that Google thrives off of our inability to focus. So, parents, the next time your kids don t believe you when you tell them that technology rots your brain, show them this evidence, and they might listen. The statements from this article will give you the evidence you need to convince ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Reflection About Technology How do you relate to technology? You might have been asked this question before, but even if you haven t this is a question that everyone could answer; there just might be different ways to answer. For me, when people ask how I relate to technology my mind cannot help but go to my iPhone and all the apps that I scroll through all the time, and yes, even when I am in the restroom. (we have all done this before). My favorite part about my cell phone and the applications that I am offered is the question itself; they allow me to relate a technology that everyone has some knowledge about to something that I am passionate about, the gospel. There are many apps on my cell phone that I enjoy, but only a few can keep me so entertained that I can hardly put my phone down to go to sleep at night. Usually, when I am bored, I quickly scroll through my phone to see an application that is going to satisfy me for the next 20 minutes of my life. Until, I get bored of that as well, but when it comes to the applications that are teaching me about God, I become deeply Intrigued and encouraged by what I am reminded. It s like a buffet, I start at the salad line and keep walking hoping there is something else that is better, and when I get to the dessert boy am I the happiest girl in the world! We have all made a phone call at one point our lives, and if you haven t, you probably know someone who has. • 4. Pros And Cons Of The Two Party System Left Wing, Right Wing, Broken Wing Have you ever considered the American government is corrupt, even though they claim to uphold certain American values? The two party system is just that: corrupt. Right now, the government offers two parties, and even though it has its benefits, it has a lot more weaknesses. Although the two party system offers stability and accessibility for citizens, it is broken and needs to be drastically changed for the government to be actually of the people, by the people, for the people. The two party system was born after the American revolution, when our representatives for each colony chose sides between federalists and antifederalists. This later became what we know today as the Democratic party and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two party system needs to be changed or completely abolished, because it offers limited ideas and opinions to run the country. The two parties have their own perspectives on issues such as gun control or abortion; Craig Goodman of the University of Houston claims he doesn t think it s very democratic. Why should you exclude someone because they are a small number, and they don t get to express themselves? (Cargo 1). The two party does not allow the middle ground or smaller parties to really have a say (Mathias 4). Most voters only know the leading independent and the two party nominees. Kate Cargo describes the two party system leaves voter with low quality ideas and frankly, low quality candidates (Cargo 1) while the third party candidate could have a great compromise on a hot issue, it will never see the light of day. While the two party system does allow people to have easy access to the opinions of the parties on these issues, it does not make up for the limited options we have. As a country we need to have as many options as possible even if they are extreme. Accessibility is important, but it should never limit our options. Along with giving us limited opinions and ideas, the two party system often offers a repeat of candidates. Hillary Clinton has ran for the office of president ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Modern Day Zeppelins Or Airships Have you ever seen a modern day zeppelin or more commonly known as airships? Probably not. Zeppelins were once very popular. People all over the world wanted to fly on them, until the well known zeppelin called the Hindenburg went up in flames. Today, there are companies that are trying to bring back the airships that are safer for the world to use. There are many reasons that zeppelins or airships could be very popular again. One reason they could be popular again is because they are safe and good fro the environment. Modern day airships would use helium, a nonflammable gas, instead of Hydrogen, the very flammable hydrogen. Helium is environment friendly, unlike hydrogen, which was used in the 1930 s zeppelins. • 6. Bad Hooks Catch No Fish Bad Hooks Catch No Fish A good hook is what, best, brings a reader into any form of writing. If not, then all could be lost, unless it is mentally forced upon. This is especially true for a novice, or introductory, reader getting into the finer aspects of literature or composition. Such as, Paul Rankin s (2005) essay, on Hemingway s Hills like White Elephants, lacks a motivated lead. The opening transition word could throw a reader in the opposite direction Rankin would have hoped for. The beginning paragraphs poor lead could cause one to become lost before the revelation of thesis which makes a poor asset to novice readers. With the opening word Although (Rankin, p. 234) would make sense if a complete thought was presented prior. It leaves one to ask, what this complete though could be. With this lingering thought of what was the original, paves the way for a very complex sentence, which is still a continuation of the leading thought. Now for someone venturing into the literary scene, to read a sentence of this magnitude, could become hesitant to continue. Although, the composition of the first sentence is artful, it could still be a hard read. Which, from a scholar s perspective is refreshing and at par. But the little guy becoming a scholar has not earned his letterman mark yet. It is wise to be careful into reading a sentence with complex composition of over 100 words. Additionally, the first sentence, a summation of multiple views could introduce a novice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Women s Roles in Television √Over the last 60 years may things have changed; technology, traditions, culture, and of course the way a female is seen in eyes around the world. Television itself dates back to the 1920 s (these television sets were extremely limited during these years). In 1950, only 9 percent of American households had a television set, but by the 1960 the figure had reached 90 percent. During this time, women were introduced in a completely diverted way then a male actor. Women took stereotypical roles such as the housewife, mother, maid or even nanny. Ladies from Marilyn and Lucy s time came a long way, in some shows and/or movies women are now playing major roles and even hosting their own talk show. Today, women aren t expected to be physically fit or attractive but rather than good at what they do and love it. The difference between all these ladies is that Lucy and June are more of the ideal mother from the 1950 s. These programs claim success when using their methods. Although only one is a free programs, the other is claimed to be worth the money. Applying this process in a classroom may look like showing students the mnemonic techniques in Multiplication in a Flash that teaches the zero, one, two, five, and nine times tables with at least two other different strategies and then allowing the children can choose the one they like best. Once the students have been introduced to strategies for solving the remaining multiplication facts, pictures, stories, and rhymes could be shown that are the second part of the Multiplication in a Flash program. This could be a strengthening and helpful aid for students to be able to memorize their multiplication tables. Imagine the procedures of this program; first students learning strategies to solve multiplication facts, and then this program is added in as an aid or reinforcement. An observation of this process would hopefully look like an activity or review to reinforce the concepts of the multiplication facts students should have already grasped. The strategies from the program could easily be introduced while teaching the multiplication facts and wouldn t take much time to implement. The strategies could be used in centers because most of them are stories or have activities attached to them. This definitely sounds like a beneficial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Article Evil And Omnipotence 1. In the article Evil and Omnipotence, J. L. Mackie outlines the problem of evil as being the result of three statements which are logically inconsistent with each other, where if any two were true then, in turn, the third would have to be false. The first statement of the problem of evil is God is omnipotent, the second God is all good, and the third evil exists. The problem of evil assumes that omnipotence means there are no limits to God s power, that good is opposed to evil in the sense that anything all good would seek to eliminate as much evil as possible, and that therefore an omnipotent and all good being should aim to completely eliminate evil. 2. In the article God and Evil, H. J. McCloskey distinguishes a difference between moral evils and physical evils. Moral evils are a product of human free will and are capable of a greater intensity of human emotion and reaction than natural evils. On a small scale, moral evils are acts and feelings of selfishness, deception, murder, rape, torture, and theft. On a larger scale, moral evils would be acts of genocide, war, and corporate malpractice. Physical or natural evils are evils of the natural world, meaning of the earth and animal kingdom. They can range from inhospitable geographies such as cliffs and deserts, dangerous animals, pests, and parasites such as lions, poisonous spiders, mosquitos, and viruses, natural calamities such as tsunamis, hurricanes, or earthquakes, diseases such as leprosy or ... • 11. Challenges of Religious Pluralism Essay For centuries, religion in America has been more of a family affair. What this means is that despite the different groupings, almost all major religions have been united under the same American experience. Almost all the main religious denominations have been required to conform to the dictates of Protestantism. Maybe this has been derived from the belief that almost all of these groupings have been responsible for shaping America as we know it today. However, many things have happened in the past few decades to change the way religions have been conducting themselves. One theme that has overly changed over the years is that of pluralism. For many years, America has been a haven of different groupings of people. The British immigration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This philosopher incorporated the grouping of Aristotle in to Christianity. According to this law, all important human principles have a proper reason that is dictated by nature. An example of this is sexual intercourse whose main goal is procreation. The church has repeatedly fought the use of contraceptives as a means of family planning arguing that it contravenes Gods purpose of procreation. To devout Catholics, this is a sign of immorality and should therefore be fought by all people of good will. Influence from outside has caused scholars in the church to question such things as sexuality in its different forms. This has called the church to realize, that society has changed and that there is need for the church to change too. Another area where the Catholic Church has modified its activities to suit European notions is on the issue of penance. Traditionally, the practice was administered on a very personal basis. In the process of penitents, those seeking forgiveness, would kneel in a specially made box known as the confessional. Usually, this box consisted of screens that divided the priest and the penitent. This was meant to create an air of anonymity between the two. The priest would then order the penitent to offer a set of prayer or observe other religious rituals for the forgiveness to take effect. However, over the years, people have criticized this move as too impersonal. This practice has been modified and today the practice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Transcendentalism and Deep Ecology Transcendentalism has been linked to the birth of deep ecology, given the emotion and spiritual philosophy that connects the two movements. Both transcendentalism and deep ecology romanticize the natural world, and critique the way industrialization, modernization, and urbanization encroach on ecological and spiritual purity. The eco centric worldview and value system espoused by deep ecology has its roots in transcendentalism (Hicks, n.d.). Both transcendentalists and deep ecologists disparage the ways individuals, communities, and whole cultures present the human being as being entitled to rape and plunder the earth. However critical they were of human activity and stupidity, the transcendentalists were not misanthropes. The transcendentalists advocated for a better world, one that discarded ineffective and corrupt forms of government in favor of a more just and egalitarian society. All were abolitionists, in an era where slavery and sexism were both normative. Emerson advocated material and spiritual self reliance over philanthropy as a means of self empowerment. He also criticized traditional types of philanthropy as having a certain air of quackery, (Emerson, 1842). Philanthropy is often used as an excuse to avoid doing the real work of transforming the self and the society, according to Emerson. These seemingly simple bonds between people can amount to so much and cause such commotion that lives change drastically within minutes in these relationships. Especially in the fast changing world of today. In my piece I am going to be telling you about the three types of relationships I see taking place. Over time, I have asked myself three questions, finding the answers along the way, which is what I will be explaining to you. To begin, how much does one compromise on self gratification for the sake of commitment? Or should one compromise at all in the name of love? Finally, what happens when love is found outside ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Compromising in the name love is just wrong to do; whatever the circumstances. This sort of actions you would find in arranged marriages and usually it is the female that has to make this compromise and suffer. A classic example of this type of relationship can be seen in arranged marriages in Indian families, but these are not limited for Indian families in India; these can still be seen in American or other parts of the world where Indian or Muslim families reside. Only true love can set them free of this compromise but it just ends up in a big blunder because it would create a lot of friction and pose a lot of questions. When someone truly loves, they expect to have it back in return. Not an act. Lastly, what happens when love is found outside ones commitment? This to me is a sad thing but also a happy thing when it is dealt with maturely and with much understanding. Regarding my earlier points; imagine in this compromise that is made. It takes a true person to understand when love is found outside a relationship by the compromising partner. Although the other party is strongly in love with this person, they would understand that this was not their love story after all and should be happy that their partner found theirs. Yes it is a sad thing to happen in a relationship, but when one understands the meaning of true love only then they can let go without any qualms. In conclusion I would ... But regardless of whether they save money or not, are they truly beneficial for our communities? This article hopes to break down some of the myths these private prison corporations have used to push their agenda and discuss how that is far from the case. By doing so, the reader can form his/her own conclusions on how pervasive and detrimental private prisons have become within our communities. Additionally, by informing as many people as possible about the harmful effects of privatizing the correctional system in our nation, we can soon hope to address some of the emerging problems such as our increased prison populations, endangerment of prisoners staff personnel, and whether it truly is cost effective. However, before we can dive into the dilemmas that the prison industrial complex created we must first define what they are and how did they originate within our country. First, the private prison system is not a new phenomenon. Although the first appearances of these facilities are not the ones we think of today, the private sector s involvement in incarcerating people emerged in the early eighteenth century. These privately operated facilities, in part, gained popularity because they used the prisoners as laborers, artisans, and other needed occupations in the community. These questions that appear in our thoughts are probably due to encounters with experiences of struggle. In every human being that has ever lived, struggle is part of life. It is an obstacle that is faced every day. There are some who struggle more than others. It is a hardship they endure and try to breakaway to be free from it. In many cases, struggling varies from one another. Such as, the struggle to be free and the struggle to live. In United States of America, the nation is known by many, and perhaps worldwide for its American Dream and being the Land of the Free, but also for its shameful historical past of slavery. ... Growing up, he never questioned freedom because he did not know what freedom meant. In his memory, he recalled, I was raised in a gaunt house... around the orchard and gardens stood a wall of some height, designed... to keep us all from slipping away and running from freedom; though that, of course, I did not yet understand (Anderson 3). Little did he know, he is a prisoner inside of a property he is being taken care of. Just the outside of the property, is his freedom, however, he cannot get out of the house since his freedom is being kept away from him. • 34. The Role of the Supernatural in the Play Macbeth Essay The Role of the Supernatural in the Play Macbeth Fair is foul and foul is fair such a well known line from the play Macbeth, with such power behind the words. I have reason to believe that the role of the supernatural plays a very important part in Shakespeare s play Macbeth, we can say that the supernatural occurs 4 times throughout the play that we can call supernatural because they are physically unnatural things to be seen, e.g. the appearance of Banquo s ghost, the prophecies and the air drawn dagger etc. But I have gone further into depth to find that the supernatural isn t just physically noticeable but also mentally through hallucination etc. I have many reasons to believe this because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because of the history of the witches at the time that Shakespeare had written the play. At the time that the play was written, there was a strong belief in the existence of witches, anyone that was seen to do things differently or better than anyone else they were accused of being a witch, and it was very offensive to be accused of being one. This therefore is the reason why the supernatural is a recurring theme in many of his plays. That is why the supernatural is seen in many varied forms such as the floating dagger, the witches and many more. With Macbeth s entrance in the play, he has a reaction to the witches the same that anyone in the audience would have had too. He is shocked to see them, but also wants to listen to the words that the witches speak because they talk about what Macbeth has always desired. This reaction too would have been what the audience would have had, and this draws them into the play further, as if they can feel what Macbeth too is feeling. I feel that with the power of the audience in the play as well as the story seems almost supernatural in a way because of the power that it holds. I feel that Shakespeare would have wanted this effect because of the great impact that the audience get from watching the play. From the first glimpse of the witches and the ... Justin Lawson and I were eating, when all of a sudden he received a text from an unknown sender. The message read Hey Justin would you and a few of your football teammates like to voluntarily be the pallbearer for an ex marine? His name was Mr. Hunter. Justin immediately showed me the message without thought I wonder who we should ask to help, because we want the most respectful people we know. At school the next day, we had gone around and asked a few of the people we thought we should ask, this was nothing big, the funeral day would come, we would all go pay our respect and serve as the pallbearers, and then we could go ... Listening to the crowd with so much joy, clapping and screaming, it made these other five men and I feel so wonderful. Knowing that we had touched all these people just by this one simple action as being the pallbearers. • 38. The Sense Of Belonging Through Human Interaction In one of the most well known masterpieces by Pink Floyd, Hey You , focused on one of the most important aspects of human life the sense of belonging through human interaction. The lyric highlights Roger Waters skill as a brilliant lyricist and composer, who reaches out to his audience with the haunting melody and emotionally charged lyric. Waters has touched many lives with this piece by explicitly emphasizing on the pain of desolation and disassociation. He constructs his dialogue based on a life of his former bandmate Syd Barrett, whose life was severely affected by heavy drugs use, social desolation, and ultimately developed into mental illness. Waters introduces the audience to the song with the sound of an acoustic guitar in a low lying, gloomy, yet captivating tone painting a picture of an eerie state of mind. He then grabs their attention by using a bold holler and plea, Waters writes: Hey you out there in the cold, Getting lonely getting old, Can you feel me? The verse renders an image of isolation and desperation for human interaction and recognition. Relatedness is one of the most important parts of basic human psychological needs; along with competence and autonomy, they create a trifecta of conditions that must be met in order for human to growth and integrate. Failure to satisfy these conditions can have negative impact on human emotion and can ultimately demoralize and desolate us mentally (Deci, 2000). Waters then repeats the same question at the ...
