Production Reflection
Ayrton Starkey
Process
Today I have begun the production of the front cover of my magazine. It took me while to begin the production of my
front cover as I was struggling to come up with an idea of how I was going to create it. However, I soon came up with
the idea of the dark borders which complement the orange in the header well. I wished to line up the images on my
front cover, so I used InDesign to get a 7x5 grid which I then used the ruler tool in Photoshop to replicate that grid.
This helped me measure the objects I wanted to place on my front cover and also made the poster look more
professional. I wanted to place text on the front cover and thought that I would make a box which stands out to the
reader with the orange colour.
Process
I later added text to the orange box that I made. I originally had all of the new text be the same
font size and colour but that didn’t stand out. I then chose to make the “including” larger than
the rest of the text and also made it another colour which will grab your attention. I then added
an object which reflects the main image and what will be talked about in the magazine. This
object will also contain writing which will contain a small amount of information about this
subject. Overall I am feeling rather confident about my front cover so far.
Process
Today I have mainly been working on practicing
to draw the characters that I wish to include in
my magazine. Although I have mainly been
focusing on this, I have also made some
adjustments and additions to my front cover. The
first thing that I added was some text to the
object. This is just place holder text as I am still
thinking what to write on it. Another thing that I
added today was a frame for a picture in the
bottom right of the page. This will include one of
the pictures that I make of “frost”. The last thing
that I added today was a tag at the top left which
informs the reader of a free poster inside the
magazine. I wish to add a small preview of the
poster next to this text but I will have to wait
until I have made the posters to do so. Overall I
feel like my front cover is coming along nicely
and I think I can still add more to it so that it will
look even better.
Process
Today I have been working on making the
characters that I wish to use for a show I
will be talking about in my magazine. I
have been using a picture of the character I
wish to make as a base to recreate. I have
been making this character on Photoshop
as I tried illustrator to make it but it looked
awful. I have been making this for the
majority of the day as it has taken a while
to get all of the lines, colours and designs
right. I think that the character is looking
quite good so far so I am feeling quite good
about it.
Process
Today I have finished making the first
character which I wish to use in my double
page spreads. I think that the character has
come out well and the shading works well
enough and looks good. Now that I have
finished making this character, I have
moved on to the next character that I wish
to create. I have began outlining the
character which is currently on my front
cover. This will be the character that I wish
to recreate and use on my front cover.
Process
Today I have been working on the next
character that I wish to create. I have been
working on the outlines of the character
and also the colours. I have decided to
change the colours of the character that I
am recreating so that it is not completely
the same and also so that it will match
what I wish to talk about in my double
page spreads. Since the colouring of the
character is taking quite a while to do, I am
probably going to continue this work at
home so that I can continue with other
things sooner. Overall I am happy about
how the character is coming out so far.
Process
Today I have done a variety of things. One of the
things that I have done today is that I have
finished the hair of the character I will be using.
This did not take long to do so I decided to carry
on developing my front cover and preparing to
make my double page spreads. The next thing
that I did was make my own “Dragon Balls”
which are an important thing in the show I will
be talking about. These will be scattered around
in the background of one of my double page
spreads but they will be more opaque as I don’t
want them to stand out very much. The last
thing I did today was make some tweaks to my
front cover. I have added some text on to the
ball on the page and I have also added some
more text around the page. I have added a date
and issue number to make the front cover look
more real. Overall I feel like I have made some
progress towards the production of my double
page spreads and my front cover.
Process
Today I have been working on a background
for one of my double page spreads. This
background I have been creating will link to
what I am writing about as it is the earth in
the show. I feel like this background is looking
good so far and I will continue to develop this
background on Tuesday when I get back in to
college. I have also done a little bit of work on
my character again today but I have not done
much as I wanted to get on with the creation
of my background. I believe that this
character will be done soon as there are only
a couple more things that need colouring and
shading so that it looks good. I have also
made a tower which relates to a show in
Illustrator today. I have put this tower in the
background I have been creating to make it
more detailed.
