Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. Production Log 1
Today I started our research and planning I first started to analyses
different film opening from other film productions. I did this to see if we
could get any inspiration or something that caught my interest so that I
could present it to my group. This would help me as I would have a
variety of ideas that I could use to generate ideas for a brainstorm. This
gave me a wider range of ways to think about how I could produce an
opening scene for a production using the resources that we had.The
genre of the films were varied at first looking at action, comedy, drama,
adventure, horror, thriller ect. I then decided to present the three genres
that most inspired me.These genres were action, horror and thriller.
After deciding on a group vote we had picked a hybrid genre which was
horror/thriller. I then started to look at film openings and trailers that
relate to horror/thriller.
3. Production Log 2
Today I started looking at different genres and narrowing
them down to one which was horror/thriller. I then started to
generate a brainstorm looking at different topics for example
the locations we had available, resources, props, are roles to
the film, a title. This helped the group along with me organize
and structure are film so that he had a rough idea of what
storyline we use for are film production.
4. Production Log 3
Today I started to look at the strengths of are group and how
they could help us towards the film production. To do this I
took a camera and started to film little short clips. We all took
part in working with the camera, acting and directing. While
doing this I worked on different ways we could make these
shots more interesting. For example when I was in use of the
camera I used different shots to try and add a certain type of
effect (tension)using close ups, deep focus and cowboy shots.
After working in these different areas we came to a
conclusion of what roles best suited are strengths.
5. Production Log 4
Today we then went back to planning to create a storyboard
for our film production. I suggested to use the brainstorm to
develop our storyboard. My contribution to the storyboard
was choosing the location in which we should shoot the
scenes. The things that I had to think about while doing this
was how the locations best fitted our genre and target
audience . Also how they could create the tension and
suspension as these were some of the conventions of a
horror film.
6. Production Log 5
Next we moved to actually starting to film our film
production. At this point we all knew are roles and what we
were going to film because of the story board. I was heavily
involved in this stage of the film production as I was filming
the majority of the scene which helped me develop my
camera skills. I also was directing the cast making sure that
the positioning of people was correct, looking at lots of ways
the type of shot I was using could be improved or retaking
shots to give them more effect on the audience.
7. Production Log 6
Today, after I had shot the first draft of scenes, we went back
up as a group and put the film together on iMovie. Before
editing I looked at ways we could change shots, add shots or
even take out shots to improve the filming side of the film. I
saw that some of my shots were to basic and repetitive. For
example in an area I changed a shot from a normal close up,
that continued for to long, to a shot that looks from another
persons perspective but keeping that close up effect for that
effect of tension. This continued throughout the film
production.
8. Production Long 7
Today I finished filming and directing our group then moved
onto editing and sound design. I wasn’t involved much in the
editing stage but gave a little contribution towards what
sound we should use of different scenes. For example when
their was tension I said to use low deep volume music with a
increase pace of a beat.
