Application of value stream mapping tool to reduce wastes in bearing industry
In today’s highly competitive business environment, companies require improvement in Production Lead
Times, costs and customer service levels to survive. Because of this, companies have become more
customers focused. The result is that companies have been putting in significant effort to improve their
efficiency.
This paper present the practical application of Value Stream Mapping (VSM) tool implement in a bearing
industry. A value stream is an assortment of all actions (value added as well as non-value added) that are
required to bring a product through the essential flows, starting with raw material and ending with the
customer. For drawing current state value stream mapping, all relevant data has been collected and analyzed. Then analysis of current state map has been done for identifying non-value adding activities, in
other words waste and suggestions on how to remove or reduce different wastes. From the results achieved
by current VSM, it was observable that the two processes Annealing and CNC Machining have higher cycle
time and WIP. In order to increase their capacity, their cycle should be reduced.
By implementing some lean principles and changes in the production line, the future state map was created and the reduction the different types of wastes reduced. The total processing time was reduced from 409
seconds to 344 seconds.

Abstract: The case study discuss about production process in Better Castings Company. Consider for a moment what it takes to produce a product in manufacturing industry that has to produce different products at various times. Major, there are the logistics of scheduling and raw material handling. Then, add the human labour factor affecting both quality and efficiency. The production process in the company is similar to the other production process of companies where the raw material transfer from foundry to store, store to the lathe machining for parting material, from lathe machining to the CNC (computer numerical control) machines where the first operation and the second operation are carried out to obtain the final design of the ring joint gaskets. After the final machining the obtained product is carried to the quality control where the visual inspection, dimensional inspection, Quality of product & the specifications of the product are checked depending on the customer requirement. While machining product the tolerance in tool fit will affect the dimensions of product. Due to that product can’t reach its specification limit given by customer. So company losing its machining time in the form of reworks and rejections, man power and production. This is common problem in many small scale manufacturing industries. In order of considering all these process a single change in production process leads better quality and efficiency production of company. The paper shows a solution to reduce machining time and man power in order to increase production of a company.

The objective of this paper is to present case study on a wearing insert and cutting ring for the efficient improvements in productivity with the help of various work Study Methods. In this study productivity is improved through identifying the process that involves the time required for the process as the main reason to achieve the objectives of increasing the productivity. Time and motion study is one of the necessary factors to set a standard target. The study is aimed at identifying the unwanted work processes which in turn increases the time required, efforts as well as the cost of the product. Thus the changes were made in the areas which require improving using work study methods.

2. Analysis identified bottlenecks at several workstations where cycle times exceeded the takt time, including side and profile milling, bolt hole drilling, and machining operations. Travel charts and process maps also showed transportation and wait times between workstations.

Lean manufacturing project
Every manufacturing industry has an end goal to keep up the situation in the focused condition. For that, each organization must move forward in terms of good administration and improved nature of processes. In Industrial and Mechanical engineering, it has turned out to be more critical to apply lean concepts to enhance its procedures and to reduce wastes. In a fast-moving industrial environment, lean manufacturing is considered as a vital component in any market-driven business. Lean manufacturing utilizes various tools and methodologies for the assessment of framework and processes. This project focuses on the process improvement, waste reduction, and enhancing overall line efficiency of the produce system. The analysis of the work station was done by performing time study for gantry’s capability to feed all the machines, machine cycle time, gantry cycle time, conveyor breakdown, raw material availability and efficiency of the gantry and machine. Moreover, a kaizen sheet has been provided, addressing both the problem and solution for reducing the conveyor breakdown. Other lean tools have been used to perform the project such as time study, 5 why, flow chart and line balancing. The outcome of all the process performed is the improved part distribution, reduced cycle breakdown and overall increased efficiency of the line. In conclusion, we have introduced solutions for the problems and recommendations for the firm to implement it in the manufacturing line.

IRJET- Optimization of Plastic Injection Molding
The document discusses optimization of plastic injection molding process parameters using Taguchi methods and Moldflow simulation software. It analyzes the effect of melt temperature, cooling time, injection pressure, and mold temperature on the warpage of a honey cup part made of polypropylene. An L9 orthogonal array experiment is designed using the Taguchi approach to study these four parameters at three levels each. The results show that melt temperature has the most significant effect on warpage, followed by mold temperature, injection pressure, and cooling time. The optimal parameter settings found to minimize warpage are a melt temperature of 180°C, cooling time of 15 seconds, injection pressure of 90MPa, and mold temperature of 50°C.
IRJET - Productivity Improvement by Time Study and Motion Study
This document discusses improving productivity at a thermocole manufacturing plant through time study and motion study. It was found that delays between tasks were affecting production rates. Time study and motion study techniques from work study were used to analyze the processes. The analysis found a lack of proper time standards, uneven task distribution, inefficient space utilization, safety issues, and communication problems. After conducting time studies and setting proper time standards, production increased by 48 extra pieces per month on one machine. Implementing standards from time study and motion study analysis can effectively improve productivity by reducing delays in work processes.
