Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care developed an intranet called @Baycrest to facilitate information sharing and collaboration among employees. The goals were to increase productivity, reduce costs, and eliminate duplication by centralizing resources and information. Lessons learned included the need to follow project management practices, dedicate adequate staffing and budgets, involve departments in planning, and design for novice computer users. Future plans include expanding the intranet to support knowledge management, executive decision making, clinical information, and wireless access to key resources.
