Effective problem-solving requires an orderly approach. Problem-solving skills do
not magically appear in students as a result of instructors simply throwing
problems at them.
Our students use the following heuristic: "How to make a DENT in a problem: Define, Explore, Narrow, Test."
(1) Define the Problem Carefully
2) Explore Possible Solutions
(3) Narrow Your Choices
(4) Test Your Solution
