Analysis Of The Poem Pentagram
Pentagram
The simple definition of the term pentagram is a five pointed star whose arms are equal length that is
drawn with a continuous line. Throughout history, this symbol has been used by religions and has
many different meanings.
The Pentagram can be traced back to carvings on stone walls in ancient Mesopotamia, dating these
carvings leads us back to 3500 BC. Many cultures use the symbol for various things.
It is a sign of royalty, representing power sent to the four corners of the earth; it was a sign of
protection, it was the Endless Knot and was a symbol for Truth; knights painted it on their shields, a
reminder of the five virtues they were to follow; Christianity claimed it represented the five wounds of
Christ; it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For me, this means a lot. As well as teaching a young girl about the craft, often referred to as my grand
Witchling, I am guiding my partner on the path to being Wiccan. Knowing the correlation to the
horned God gives me another way to tap into those energies and helps me teach him to focus in the
divine masculine with the use of symbols.
In Modern Pagan/Wiccan practices the symbol is often used interchangeably with pentacle, though
there is a difference. The pentagram has no circle surrounding it and is composed of a single line. It
symbolizes the four quarters or directions, the four elements, the four seasons, and at the top point is
spirit, the fifth element from which all others come.
Satanists use this symbol, surrounded by a circle or not, upside down to represent their relationship
with Satan. They have taken our sacred symbol and twisted it to mean the opposite of what we think
and teach. In our modern age, with the extremes Satanists have gone to so they are noticed and make
an impact on society, the pentagram with the point down represents evil. To most, it means a covenant
with the devil and all that is unholy and against Christianity.
The Latter Day Saints use the inverted pentagram on many of their older buildings, I found this
amazing and since I live in Utah, about an hour from Salt Lake, I visited some of the older churches
and found one downtown that still had the symbol emblazoned above the

By age of seven I was sick of school and I wanted out by whatever means.
I went Dorsa elementary school, a local school in East Side San Jose. Coming from a Latino
background, I was at a disadvantage because English was not my first language. So fix this the
principle Mrs. Rodriguez decided to have an after school program with the parents permission of
course. This program was meant to keep non native english speakers for an one to two hours after
school. Being in class was hard enough because I didn t understand what the teachers were saying, or
cared about what we learning. I used to sit in the back small classroom, staring at the white board or

After getting home I usually took a quick nap then enjoy the day watching cartoons. This cartoons
where shows like Clifford, what s New Scooby Doo, Ed Edd n Eddy, Codename Kids Next Door,
Johnny Bravo, Static Shock, Justice League Samurai Jack, Top Cat, Robot Boy etc. While watching
the cartoons I used mimic what the characters were saying. Some examples when I watch Ed Edd n
Eddy I used say phrases like dork, sockhead, Son of a Shepherd .... Ironically this how I learned how
to speak, write, and read English, as well as draw. Sometimes for the fun of it I used to draw cartoon
characters because I like how they look. I sat down grabbed a random paper, crayons and draw what I
remembered about a character. This where my passion for drawing came from. Unfortunately, not
everyone agrees with my method since they found it was considered ditching. I been sent multiple
times to Mrs. Rodriquez office and she always ask me Why do I ditch or How do it . I replied I just

Divergent And Allegiant Essay
How are the effects of Divergent and Allegiant s speculation on individuals / groups discussed by the
author?
What if people divided society into groups based on what their personal virtues were, which they are
made to work on throughout their whole lives? What if you had to stay with this group your whole
life, leaving your friends and family behind forever?
This is the case for the dystopian books Divergent and Allegiant, written by Veronica Roth.
There is a lot of speculation in these books, about the portrayal of these groups, known as factions .
The main speculation is on the group of individuals known as the Divergents. In the first book of the
series, Divergent, they are portrayed to be individuals who rebel against the faction system as their
aptitude tests ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tris realises this when she first found out she was Divergent and stopped listening to the opinions of
other people and accepted her own perspective, When I found out I was Divergent, I thought of it as a
secret power that no one else possessed, something that made me different, better, stronger, (Roth,
2013, p. ).
As well as using perspective to speculate on the Divergents, Roth additionally uses foreshadowing
throughout Divergent, to link to the ideas explored in Allegiant.
Roth uses foreshadowing to provide the reader with an advance hint of what is to come later in the
story. She uses it mainly throughout the first book in the series to give the reader a lead in to what to
expect in the final book.
The most prominent example of foreshadowing in Divergent is when Tris questions the aptitude test;
The tests don t have to change our choices, to which her brother Caleb replies with, Don t they,
though? (Roth, 2011, p. 66). This foreshadows Caleb s decision to leave his own faction and join a
different one, which is a decision which is highly judged

Two Tough Calls Case Study
1.A. How would you describe the HR practices and beliefs of the program manager, the narrator of
this case?
For the most part, I believe the narrator had a good outlook with her HR practices and beliefs. She
understood the company did not always do the right thing, but she wanted to make sure she did the
right thing to make her a better manager. The narrator had the ability to be honest with the people,
which would help to make the department stronger. There is not need to lie to people to make them
happy. If people need additional training or development, then they should be aware of what is
expected and what they need to improve. It is better to be up front with the people, because people that

Adding this step would have shown the company they did not have a full time position available for
Phil. The company still could have used his expertise in the field, but it would have either been with a
part time position or a contract position. The company must ensure they are bringing people on that
are able to perform the job required. It will not help the company to add people with little or no
experience. This will actually hinder the performance of the groups.
3. A. Who s to blame for the program manager s work difficulties with Terry top management, HR
department, prior managers, or the program manager in this case? Discuss. The blame for the program
manager s work difficulties with Terry are a direct result of the handling of Terry by the previous
program manager. While some people would say the blame should lie on the upper management for
hiring Terry, the previous manager was the one that constantly gave Terry above average grades on
performance reviews. If the previous manager was giving Terry above average grades on performance
reviews due to upper management, then I would say it is both the previous manager and upper
management s fault. The previous manager had an obligation to ensure the performance grades were
in line with the performance of the individual. If the manager did grade accordingly, and the upper
management changed the grading, then it is

Bartleby, the Scrivener by Herman Melville
Bartleby, the Scrivener is an interesting short story written by Herman Melville for Putnam s
magazine at a time when Melville was in need for money (Davis 183). The narrator opens with a
description of himself, his employees, and the fact that his business has recently grown. Soon after, the
narrator, who is a lawyer, hires an additional employee by the name of Bartleby, the namesake of the
story. He then proceeds to tell the reader all he knows of Bartleby: how he started off copying as
desired; how he then preferred not to do the tasks that were asked of him; how he was eventually fired
but refused to leave, even when the lawyer moved his practice; how he was put into prison; and how
he died of starvation while incarcerated. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, we know the narrator to be the protagonist due to the fact that he is the one that experiences
conflict in the story. According to Todd Davis, the lawyer is a man who has been led toward a
realization of his shortcomings by his encounter with Bartleby (184). Furthermore, this realization has
to do with the narrator s struggle between horological comfort and chronometrical ideals, or, in other
words, his struggle between secular and divine principles (Davis 185). Since the protagonist of a story
is, by definition, the main character that goes through a conflict, we can thereby deduce that the
lawyer is the protagonist of Bartleby, the Scrivener. To go further, the implication that the lawyer is the
protagonist also suggests that Bartleby is the antagonist, and this truly is the case. Notably, we cannot
possibly know the real true Bartleby as he would describe himself because we only know of the
lawyer s interpretation of him (Davis 184). This means that although Bartleby is the main focus of the
narrative, he cannot be the main character. Additionally, Bartleby is the cause for the narrator s strife,
and this reinforces his antagonistic role even though he is not a bad guy like some antagonists. In fact,
Bartleby is more on the good side. The reader, like the narrator, feels compassion and sympathy for
this poor soul, but, again, this is the cause for the

Gruesome Ethnic Cleansing
An engagement in a gruesome ethnic cleansing must be treated as a felony, considering the amount of
fear and indelible scars targeted people had to deal with. Despite the certainty we have for its badness,
we soon face with the difficulty in determining the ways to rule and specify the committed crime for
the punishment. Simply put, Mr. Ruthless s argument that not having signed to the convention for the
ratification justifies his acquittal of the crime of genocide does not make sense at all.
Not given a single international treaty that defines and specifies the crime of ethnic cleansing, we
should refer to customary law (or treaties codified correspondingly) to rule this criminal. However,
there exists one vital thing we have to consider when

Charles s interest of colleting species and really leaded Charles on the voyage on the Beagle.
2. Darwin witnessed the earthquake as the geological excursions. He found out the uplift of shells

Bates discovered mimicry, which one of its idea was that the species being mimicked is unpalatable to
predators and that the palatable species gains protection by imitating the unpalatable species

2. Bates argued that animals use mimicry to camouflage against their predators which was to imitate
the unpalatable appearance to avoid predators. This had used the ideas of natural selection, and that is
the species adapt with the environment survived.
3. I think Darwin was delighted by the discovery of mimicry which had been so sportive to his natural

the new biology voyage.

Mamalathion Research Paper
Malathion is an organophosphate insecticide that was first registered for use in the UnitedStates in
1956. It is a colorless to amber color liquid with a skunk or garlic odor. It can be usedto control a
variety of outdoor insects in residential or agricultural settings and is used inshampoo to control head
lice. While beneficial to controlling many insects, it has been veryeffective with keeping the
population of adult mosquitoes in many areas to combat against WestNile Virus. One major drawback
to the use of malathion is that it is highly toxic to the honeybee; it can be with direct contact, contact

Feminism During the Enlightenment in Molière s Tartuffe
Women have been the most discriminated against group of people in the entire history of humankind.
They have been abused, held back in society, and oftentimes restricted to the home life, leading dull,
meaningless lives while men make sure the world goes round. It seems strange that half of the world s
population could be held down so long; ever since the dawn of humanity, women have been treated
like second class citizens. Only in the past 100 years or so have women started to win an equal place
in society in the Western world. However, the fight for equality has not been a short one. The seeds of

Such a statement demonstrates how she has not only fallen for his false piety, but she has also
unknowingly adopted his hypocrisy. She treats her own family in the worst of ways, being both smug
and argumentative at the same time. Mme. Pernelle obviously does not embrace the Christian virtues
of kindness and love for one another.
Madame Pernelle knows her station in life as set forth by society. The reader can assume that she is an
older lady and has been brought up in social circles. Despite being a widow, she does not seem to
possess great independence. Her harsh words to her family members preach traditional values, such as
leaving business matters and advice to the men, but merely uttering those words in mixed company
she pushes against the societal walls. She may not have a great sense of independence, but she does
express her opinion, and even argues with men, namely Cleante and Orgon.
Mme. Pernelle butts heads with Elmire, Orgon s wife. Elmire is the most sensible member of the
household, and she is probably the strongest voice of reason in the entire work. Her head is firmly
planted on her shoulders. She sees straight through Tartuffe s guise of piety and openly opposes him.
She possesses a sharp cunning, setting a trap so that Orgon will see Tartuffe s sexual advances. Elmire
is a woman who knows her place in society and does not wish to cause too much uproar about her
actions. At first, she does not want to do

Imants Tillers
Art Critical Analysis
Mount Analogue is a post modern artwork by Imants Tillers painted in 1985.
This work can be said to be a post modern piece as Tiller has utilised several techniques common to
this style. Bricolage is the creation of a work from a diverse range of things that happen to be
available. In this case, Tiller, out of necessity, created his canvas board system.
This particular artwork is an appropriation of the rather majestic painting North East view from the
northern top of Mount Kosciusko by Eugene von Guerard, produced in 1863. Tillers has re
contextualised the work and given it added value for the present time. Mt Analogue explores ideas of
authorship and originality through his use of appropriation. He has ... Show more content on

Tillers has a distinctive artistic style that is easily recognisable. He has a strategy of appropriating
images from reproductions of artworks and other sources, and re working them. Each board is like a
grain of sand on a beach, or stone on a mountainside all go to make up the whole.
In painting his work, Tillers dramatically enlarged the scale of von Guérard s colonial image, creating
a new work in its place. It is of a monumental scale when compared to the original. The new sizing
meant that the image was at once more present to the viewer, giving the impression that one can enter
the landscape, but also more abstract, due to the grid left by the canvas boards. Tillers painterly
surface jar with the parts of the boards that don t quite match, forcing the viewer to see this as
appropriation, the illusion of space, the changes in perspectives.
Tillers copies the form and line of the original piece, following an organic, natural shape and line. The
shapes are irregular, yet the canvas board system distorts the overall image to give a muted geometric
feel. They boards give strong angles and create a sense that a grid has been laid over the environment.
The organic shapes create forms that are three dimensional, giving depth to the mountain landscape.
A sense of balance is achieved between the stormy sky and the rugged mountain tops. The texture of
the sky also contrasts with the texture of the landscape. The eye is directed by the caped figure s wide

Loss of Companionship in Frankenstein
Frankenstein
The story of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is a British literature classic. It has become so famous
because of how clearly its messages transcend through time and highlight problems that the reader has
in their own life. The greatest theme from Frankenstein is the need for friends or companionship, and
the loss of these necessities. Readers of the book will notice that this message stands out to them
because everyone has had to deal with being an outcast at some point in their life. Several of the
characters throughout the novel have overcome this outcast adversity, however they all revolve around
Victor Frankenstein either entering or leaving their lives. The first example of the lack of friendship is
portrayed when Robert ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henry wished to join Victor in his studies at Ingolstadt but his father would hear none of him leaving

unexpected sight of Clerval visiting him Nothing could equal my delight on seeing Clerval; his
presence brought back to my thoughts... of home so dear to my recollection, I grasped his hand and in
a moment forgot my horror and misfortune (37). It is obvious from this quote that Victor is extremely
good friends with Henry and even his outlook on life can be altered by the mere presence of Henry. It
is vital to know of this close bond later in the story when Frankenstein is holding up the end of his
bargain made with the monster by fabricating a bride. Once Frankenstein changes his mind about
creating her and dumps the parts into the ocean, the monster goes into a rage and, like he killed all his
other victims, strangled Henry Clerval. When Victor is informed of this treachery, he goes into tremors

Importance Of Human Rights In Nauru
2. Human rights are rights essential to all human being s welfare, whatever their nationality, place of
residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, skin colour, religion, language, or any other status. Every
human is equally entitled to human rights without discrimination or question. These rights are all
interrelated, interdependent and indivisible. Universal human rights are often in correlation to the law,
in the forms of agreements, customary international law, general principles and other sources of
international law. International human rights law lays down the requirements of Governments to act in
certain ways or how not to act in certain ways that breach human rights. This is all put into place in
order to promote and protect human rights and simply, freedom of individuals or groups. Human
rights include civil and political rights, this includes the right to life, liberty and freedom of
expression; as well as social, cultural and economic rights including the right to participate in culture,
the right to food, and the right to work and receive an education. In Australia, where asylum seekers
are detained on Nauru for processing, there has been much debate about whether this involuntary
detention violates human rights, in which many cases the United Nations has stated it does.

Statistics and Psychology
Statistics and Psychology Paper There are numerous applications of statistical reasoning and research
methods in the field of psychology. From simple aspects of reading and interpreting psychology
articles, to completing personal research, statistics is a necessary concept to understand. The scientific
method is essential to research, and many of the concepts cross the lines into statistics. It is also
imperative for us to compare and contrast the characteristics of primary and secondary data.
Ultimately, the focus of these topics centers on the application of statistical reasoning in psychology.
Statistics in Psychology One might ask themselves how mathematical concepts could possibly apply
to psychology. The answer is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondary data is published data, or data collected by others (Triola, 2010). Primary data is preferred
in research because the knowledge is obtained first hand, where secondary relies on the observations
of others. For instance, more accurate results in a weight study will come from the direct weighing of
the patients than asking them their weight.
Statistics in Research Psychologists use univariate principles when they measure only one variable
and multivariate procedure when using variables to ascertain relationships (Chow, 2002).
Psychologists often use statistics to identify areas of research interest. In testing a hypothesis, many
researchers need to turn questions into testable numerical data. One of the most common statistics
applications is the testing of the null hypothesis. The null hypothesis involves the original claim like
50 out of 100 patients see success in regression techniques to overcome phobias and turning it into a
mathematical claim (µ = 50). The alternative hypothesis represents the difference of a claim, or the
probability that it is untrue because the test statistic is outside the given range (µ ≠ 50). These claims
are tested, and if it is found that less than 50 patients saw success with regression techniques, then
researchers are able to use statistical reasoning to disprove the statement. Overall, statistical reasoning
is extremely important in the interpretation of research results

An Analysis Of Jack London s To Build A Fire
The 1860s 1890s were exceptionally eventful years in America. Containing the Civil war, migration
westward, and transition into the Gilded Age, this time period ushered in many changes in American
thinking. Among these is the transition from romantic literature to realistic literature. Broadly defined
as the faithful representation of reality or verisimilitude, realism is different from romanticism in the
fact that it focuses on reality and characters, rather than the exaggerated and anomalous (CITATION).
Realistic writing was rejected by many at the time, as the stories often challenged the common way of
thinking. Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper , for example, called into question society
s way of treating mental disorders. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The literature chiefly reflects realism in its writing style and setting. The two combine as one to
achieve an indubitably realistic effect. As Peyton Farquhar the protagonist swims to shore, he sees
things that would be impossible for him to see. The setting is described with extreme precision;
however, few metaphors and similes are used. For example, as soon as Peyton surfaces, he witnesses
nature at its finest both aesthetically and in size. He looked at the forest on the bank of the stream, saw
the individual trees, the leaves and the veining of each leaf he saw the very insects upon them: the
locusts, the brilliant bodied flies, the gray spiders stretching their webs from twig to twig.
Furthermore, this acute imagery foreshadows his actual death there is no way he could be seeing the
things he is seeing, so he cannot be alive. Despite the pinpoint accuracy of the imagery in the story,
the events are plausible. While Farquhar surviving seems unlikely, it is made realistic by the fact that
he is, in reality, dead. Another unique aspect of this story that adds to its reflection on American
realism is its setting. The story is set in the South during the Civil War, right after the realist
movement kicked in. As a slave owner, Peyton Farquhar is on the confederate side of the Civil War.
Also, although there is not much dialogue in the

[4]Since most people believe that the dead would return to the earth on this night, they would light

fear and disturbance. The reasons for these scary costumes were because people were afraid souls of
the dead would recognize the living and they were used as a disguise to ward off any spirits roaming.
Unlike the past, our present day version is somewhat different from the festival of Samhain (sow in).
Today, we celebrate by carving pumpkins into Jack o lanterns, buying costumes, having parties, trick

pumpkins or spiders.
It seems like the both are kind of celebrated the same, and there are similarities but there are also

A Summary Of Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
Medieval literature is a passion that has enveloped me since I read Chrétien de Troyes
Lancelot during my freshman year. In this Arthurian romance, Chrétien represents Lancelot as
conflicted a chivalrous knight whom one expects to find only in myth, yet in violation of the code of
honor, desirous of his lord s queen. I began thinking of the tales of the Arthurian knights as more than
legendary as potentially credible historical accounts. Soon, I wrote a paper on
Gawain s rhetoric as a means to elicit specific responses in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.
Gawain s rhetorical strategies and their manipulations ultimately lead him to a deeper personal
recognition and self acceptance. This early exercise alerted me to the pleasures of working with
languages of the Middle Ages. My academic interest in Celtic Studies was piqued when I learned of
Ogam stones in my
Literature in the Natural World class. Ogam is not a spoken language, rather, a code of inscriptions
that gave the Irish language an alphabet and supplied the Irish people with a means of writing on
stone, wood, and other natural elements with relative ease. Ogam is also found in many manuscripts,
where it is both written and read in a manner different from that employed when it is found on stones.
As an aspiring academic in Medieval Literature, I recognize that knowledge of the literature of
medieval cultures is vitally important. Irish literature, including
Ogam inscriptions and manuscripts, is therefore essential to

Research Paper On Balanitis
Balantiis Balanitis is characterized by inflammation of the end of the penis, or the glans. Often, the
foreskin is also inflamed. There are several causes which involve bacterial and candidiasis infections,
sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), diabetes, phimosis, poor hygiene, skin conditions or irritation. It
can occur at any age but most commonly affects young boys under 4 years old and uncircumcised
men. It is uncommon in men who have been circumcised. Symptoms of balanitis include irritation,
redness, and soreness of the end of the penis, or the glans. It ranges from a small localized area of
redness confined to superficial skin surface, to the entire glans becoming red, swollen and painful.
There may also be a clumpy, thick, discharge beneath the foreskin. In some instances, it is impossible
to retract the foreskin or the patient may have painful urination. ... Show more content on

steroid creams depending on the cause. Antibiotics treat infections that are caused by bacteria,
including STDs. Steroid creams can be used as an supplement to antifungal or antibiotic medication to
decrease inflammation caused by infection. Steroid creams reduce inflammation that are caused by

Multi-objective Reconfiguration of Electrical Distribution...
EDSs are mainly designed meshed but operated radially for some technical and financial concerns.
Distribution networks can be represented with a graph in ordered pairs consisting of a set of vertices,
i.e. buses and a set of edges, i.e. branches; in terms of mathematics this equivalents to a sparse matrix
which its non zero elements signifies the existence of an edge in the system. On this basis a typical
distribution network is radial if it forms a tree where each load bus is exactly supplied from one source
node, i.e. substation bus [11]. This suggests MOEDNRC problem as identifying the set of non
dominated trees of the given graph. In this section we ve devised a heuristic technique based on this
idea as well as the rules defined in [30] to retain the connectivity and radial properties of individuals
during the optimization process. It s worth mentioning that these properties are broadly disturbed by
EAs due to the stochastic nature of these algorithms unless a heuristic plan is devised to preserve the
mentioned properties. As a result generation of infeasible agents in sheer numbers by EAs is quite a
normal observation. The proposed technique is able to prevail over this shortcoming and would
increase the performance of EAs as well. Before proceeding with the designed technique, some
terminologies are first introduced to set the stage for the plan.

The Discussion of Homosexuality in Comic Books
The discussion of homosexuality in comic books has a long history, reaching back to 1954, when
German American psychiatrist Frederick Wertham published Seduction of the Innocent, a book that
warned about the negative effect of popular literature. The book was a minor bestseller and was taken
seriously at the time, creating alarm in parents with the claim that reading the crime , superhero and
horror comics that contain descriptions of violence, sex, drug use and other adult themes, children will
be encouraged to similar behavior (Wikipedia). More than five decades later the song remains the
same; not much seems to have changed in society s mentality. Parents fear that violent video games

There are Movies and TV shows addressing the issue in one way or another, experimenting with
LGBTQ characters and watching the reaction of fans, testing the waters. Twelve states have approved
same sex marriage legislation in the US, celebrities and sportsmen are coming out to the public, with
Pope Francis statement that gays and lesbians must be accepted with respect, compassion and

the Roman Catholic Church s treatment of LGBT people (Chad Griffin), and in spite of all this, just in
the past 3 years, there have been more than forty registered fatal hate crimes targeting gay, lesbian,
bisexual and transgender people.
The comic book industry did not ignore the issue either, and with all the other major media, comics
have made a statement; with all the superheroes that are literally coming out of the closet, the fact that
just this past year, there have been two same sex marriages on the covers of the Astonishing X men
and Archie, two big brand comic books, and that the first transgender comic book character, the
roommate of Batgirl, Alysia Yeoh, was introduced, this supposed cult medium turned into one of the
strongest advocates for gay rights and marriage equality (Zachary, Esquire blogs). It might seem like
homosexual characters are a new concept in comic books, though in fact they appeared as early as the

Monroe Doctrine In Early American History
The Monroe doctrine is an exemplary piece of work that has helped the U.S. throughout history, and
will most likely continue helping us in the future. These assistances from the Monroe doctrine include:
keeping European settlers out in early American history when the document was made, helped us
expand to the west, and allowed us to defend Cuba from the Russians. In early American history there
was a lot of conflict between European powers, and the U.S. mostly for their interference in the
American ways of life and constantly creating settlements on our land. Once the Monroe document
was made, it struck the nerve of those European domestic disturbers and gave us the right to stop those

Pulp Fiction Analysis
Tarantino s Depiction of Violence
Quentin Tarantino is well known and often criticized for his depiction of violence in his films.
Although at times graphic, Tarantino s violence holds a purpose. This paper will look at two films,
Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction, and their depiction of violence and the aesthetics used. It will also
look at classic film conventions and ultraviolence aesthetics used by Tarantino. Finally, the paper will
determine what aesthetics Tarantino carries over in each film.
Quentin Tarantino s depiction of violence in Pulp Fiction becomes bloodier and more graphic as the
film continues. Early in the film, Martellus shoots two people, neither of which show any blood or
even a gunshot wound. Tarantino uses a classic film convention where the victim of the gunshot
clutches the spot where they were shot, covering what in real life would be a gunshot wound. He
employs another classic film convention later when Mia is stabbed in the heart with the adrenaline
shot. Instead of showing the violent act, Tarantino shows Mia s reaction to being stabbed in the heart.
In the next segment of the film, Butch shoots Vincent with a small machine gun. It riddles Vincent s
body with bullet holes and is the first time the clutch technique isn t used. Vincent s body is shown
covered in blood around the abdomen in a very bloody bathroom. This marks the transition in Pulp
Fiction from a more classical style of violence to contemporary ultraviolence.
From now on in the film,

An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge and The Necklace
People always like to impute all the misfortunes they have been through to their unfair destinies.
However, most of the occurrences happen in the human society is not random, and every consequence
must have a corresponding reason. Sometimes, the motive of one s action is hard to find because it
may be psychogenic reasons that hide deep in one s mind. Sigmund Freud comes up the idea that
human beings are motivated, even driven, by desires, fears, needs, and conflicts of which they are
unaware (Tyson 14 15). In most of the literature works, narrators unconscious egos like desires and
believes are often the most important factors to affect their behaviors and cause the consequential
narrative events happen. Both of protagonists in the articles, Peyton Farquhar in Ambrose Bierce s An
Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge and Madame Loisel in Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace, are
struggled with their identities, and suffered from the delusions caused by their egos, which lead
themselves to make the irretrievable mistakes, and finally, they fall to the fantasies again to defend the
consequences caused by their mistakes.
Both of the protagonists are not satisfied with their current identities, their desires blind their minds,
and make them easily fall into unrealistic delusions. In the An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, in
order to create suspense, Bierce does not mention the narrator s identity until Part II. He describes
Peyton Farquhar as a well to do planter; Farquhar s

Depression And Its Effects On Children
Depression in Adolescents The mind is full of emotions, knowledge, memories, and much more. The
adolescent stage is very complex where a child is attacked with different emotions and events where
they begin to feel excluded from society. In this stage, teens start using their mind for moral behavior
and decision making. This is when children, begin puberty and start an irregular hormonal stage. As
physical characteristics change in a teen s body also does the perception of themselves start to develop
in their mind. For example, when teenagers are not acknowledged by their peers they begin to exclude
themselves from the outside world. Additionally, if the teen feels out of place they start isolating
themselves from society and start a long journey of depressive thoughts. Depression is a mood
disorder that causes an individual to feel sad and isolated. Depression is a mental disorder that controls
the ability to feel content. There may be many reasons why depressive thoughts may occur. An article
by Rick Ingram, particularly displays that the vulnerability work in parent s psychopathology may be
a high risk factor for their child s depression. This theory can be dated back to different research on
psychopathology like schizophrenia research. Psychopathology research sought after a genetic link
between parent and child psychopathology. The data from the research showed that there was higher
risk of depression with children that have mothers dealing with depression. The

Summary Of Cornel West s The New Cultural Politics Of...
In Cornel West s essay, The New Cultural Politics of Difference , West describes this new cultural
politics of difference to have three challenges: intellectual, existential, and political. The new cultural
politics of difference trash the monolithic and homogeneous in the name of diversity and reject the
abstract and the universal in light of the concrete. Cornel West, through the use of the three major
historical periods (Age of Europe, America s Domination, Civil Rights Movement), explains the
importance of intervention in order to change and improve upon the mistakes of the past and reject the
false degrading stereotypes that were created during those times. Throughout his essay, Cornel West
uses examples of the battle between the people of color and White Progressives effectively because it
allows the readers to understand that for changes to be made one must be simultaneously be in the
group challenging the system and in the system itself in order for social reforms to occur within the
society they live in. According to Cornel West, the new cultural politics of difference faces three basic
challenges intellectual, existential, and political (West 3). The intellectual challenge begins with the
Age of Europe and continues through modern day society. The ambiguous legacies of the European
Age, American preeminence, and decolonization continue to haunt our postmodern moment as we
come to terms with both the European, American, Japanese, Soviet, and Third World crimes

of sanctuary, but for many they became their tombs. Rwanda Prime Minister Faustin Twagiramungo
stated, We have the same language, the same religions. There is no song or dance or drum beat that is

land ownership, and sometimes there were little fights, but the chiefs dealt with it in the traditional

earlier colonizers tried to differentiate the two groups based on physical appearances. Belgians
considered Tutsi to be more European and were given educational advantages. Hutu were excluded

Key Elements For The Basel IIi Capital Adequacy Framework
1. Introduction
In the aftermath of the financial crisis of 2007 2009, the Basel Committee of Banking Supervision
launched a program that substantially revised the existing capital adequacy guidelines. As a result, the
Committee released a new version of bank capital and liquidity standards, referred to as Basel III , in
December 2010. Subsequent guidance was issued in January 2011 regarding minimum requirements
for regulatory capital instruments. The G20 , including United States and the European Union,
publicly endorsed the Basel III standards at their November 2010 Summit in Seoul, and relevant
countries around the world have made efforts to study its impacts on their banking industry and to find
the best ways to implement them into law in their respective jurisdictions. There have been numerous
worldwide debates and discussions since its introduction. However, the core principle of more
stringent capital requirement has not been changed and it is now unavoidable for impacted financial
institutions to comply with the new standards. The purpose of this paper is to summarize the key
elements for the Basel III capital adequacy framework and discuss its practical implications on the
financial industry.

A SURVEY ON WEB PERSONALIZATION FOR RECOMMENDATIONS ABSTRACT Data
mining is a process of extracting the information from the large set of databases. As the web contain
huge amount of information finding the exact information of which user required is difficult. Web
personalization is a process of analyzing the user?s navigational behavior based on web sequence
access performed by the user based on which recommendations are done. Web usage mining plays an
important role in recommendation of pages to user based on user interest. Different kinds of technics
and algorithms are used for web personalization and recommendation of pages. The technics of data
mining such as collaborative filtering, association rule mining, ontology, support vector machine,
sequence access patterns and web log mining are compared to know which technic is more efficient
for recommendation of web pages based on web personalization. A survey conducted to find which
technic easily recommends the web pages to user such that it consumes less time for searching the
information. The paper proposes the technic that provides efficient results for recommendation of
pages to user based on user interest comparing parameters like precision and recall and matching
algorithm. Web log based recommendations are more efficient when compared to other technics as it
consumes less time for searching the relevant information. The survey gives the result in the form of
the graph for different parameters. Index Terms:

The Importance Of A Good Life
As a young adult, it is really difficult to define what a good life is. A Good life it s an expression that
is interpreted differently by every individual. However, my humanities class helped me clarify my
thoughts about how the term good life could be defined. A good life is living with ambition and
creating new experiences with the ones you love the most. For me, a good life not only consist of me
reaching my goals but it also lies on helping the people around me to reach their goals. Having the
right values and priorities complement a gratifying life. During this journey, I have learned that
analyzing several situations can lead to a great way of associating ideas and understanding certain
events that take place in my life. Medicine is a very rigorous field of study, therefore I must hold the
concept of a good life in order to achieve my goals and keep my priorities in the right order.
Humanities has been a great base for me to develop the right mindset to pursue my career. For
instance, the modules: The True Purpose of a Liberal Education, Morality and Ethics, Happiness,
Nature, and Life Affirmation, were the ones that made the most significant impact on my perspective
in life. In today s society, people are becoming accustomed to following the popular beliefs instead of
thinking in depth and forming their own opinions. In some cases, it is evident that some individuals
deviate away from the obvious which leads them to become unconsciously ignorant. In

Redefining The Dual Process Model ( Dpm )

Transforming Hands into Trees to Create Symbols of

RECONSTRUCTING MEANING THROUGH EMBODIMENT 2
It was previously thought that once you complete the stages of grieving it eventually
comes to an end. However, new research has shown that it is in fact a life long process.
According to newer approaches to bereavement, the Dual Process Model (DPM) can help to
better understand the process of grief. Research done by Strobe and Schut (1999, 2001) on the
DPM reveals that the process ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other times, grief may involve reminiscing on past
memories which may evoke bright and happy emotions. Often grief exists on a continuum
which incorporates both positive and negative emotions, thoughts, and feelings. This
phenomenon of oscillating between approaching and avoiding negative emotions can be

harnessed by the art therapist to allow the client a creative outlet to express intense and changing
emotions (Lister et. al, 2008, p. 248). The role of the art therapist is not to prohibit the
expression of negative emotions, but to help hold the space and contain these emotions in a safe
environment. Exploring emotions can not only be cathartic, but over time the exploration
through art making can help to reframe these emotions into something that is easier to carry.
In facilitating an art therapy group with adults who are bereaved and grieving, it was
apparent that art making allowed for exploration of both loss orientation an restoration
orientation. For the first session, the theme was around strength and groundedness. The group
began with the question of how do the adults define strength and groundedness in daily life and
closed with the poem Advice from a Tree (Shamir, 2016). The directive was kept fairly simple
and open ended, and the adults were instructed to trace their hand in any way to create a tree
from it using the medium of oil pastels. The

Billy Joel Influence
William Martin Joel, who s known by his stage name as Billy Joel, the piano man, is a composer,
musician, and pianist who started his music career in 1965. Billy Joel s music style has been
influenced by many elements from his upbringing in the New York suburbs to small town culture to
world events. Throughout his music style, the melodies are unpretentious and are telling the stories of
the working class of America. Joel speaks about the struggles that the American people have in songs
like Allentown and about the culture in the suburban with the song, Only the Good Die Young . Billy
Joel is an American icon because he started at the bottom and worked himself up to the top while
remembering where he came from. Joel is a great example of ... Show more content on

William Martin Joel was born in New York City on May 9th, 1949 but his family would soon move to
the suburb of Levittown, New York, where he lived during his childhood and a portion of his young
adult years. When living in the suburbs, his father returned to Europe and left Billy s mother to
struggle rising two children on a secretary s wages which caused finance issue for the family. Billy
Joel s early years in the suburbs greatly influence his music because of his family s low income, Billy
would read any books he could find, especially history books. In an interview with the Rolling Stones,
Billy mentions that since his family s tv was broken and didn t have money to get it fix he would read
books, which would later in life help give him inspiration when writing lyrics. I read. I read
everything. I used to read history books like they were novels anything I could get my hands on
(Marsh). While living in the suburbs, Joel develop his perspective on the culture of the suburbs and
would later use that perspective to write the lyrics of Only the Good Die Young . Multiple time Joel
has been known to greatly express his rejection towards the suburban culture, yet he still uses it in his
music which strengths his position as an American icon. Joel s negative option of the

Elie Wiesel s Research
For the survivor who chooses to testify, it is clear: his duty is to bear witness for the dead and for the
living. He has no right to deprive future generations of a past that belongs to our collective memory.
To forget would be not only dangerous but offensive; to forget the dead would be akin to killing them
a second time. Elie Wiesel, Night
While Elie Wiesel is surely right in his statement, it is not the job of only holocaust survivors, but of
all people, to make sure that the horror of the Holocaust are never forgotten. One part of the
Holocaust, however, is often overlooked by the general public; The Nazi Medical experiments
conducted on the prisoners of the concentration camps. Acknowledging the atrocity of these
experiments, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Take the High altitude experiment , also conducted a Dachau under Dr. Rascher, for example. In this
experiment Rascher wanted to find the best way to save German pilots who ejected at high altitudes.
Rascher had subjects put into low pressure chambers that simulated altitudes as high as 68,000 feet,
and monitored their physiological response as they succumbed and died. (Tyson) If Rascher were
testing for Pilot survival, he would no that the pressure would slowly increase, as the ejected pilot
slowly parachuted down to the ground. Rascher, however, kept the pressure chamber at a set pressure,
incorrectly representing how the human body would react to ejecting at high altitude. Furthermore, if
the point of the experiment was to save pilots from high altitudes, why did they let some of the
subjects die in the chamber? Shouldn t they be testing ways to revive them, rather than kill them?
Even worse, to the subjects that survived the chamber, Rascher would perform vivisections,
[dissecting] victims brains while they were still alive to show that high altitude sickness resulted from
the formation of tiny air bubbles in the blood vessels of a certain part of the brain. (Tyson) The
dissections of the brain to discover the formation of blood vessel could easily have been discovered in
autopsy. Sure, this would require the subject to die, but at least they wouldn t have died by having
their skull cracked

William Shakespeare s Fifth Business
In a universe consisting of billions of people, the existence and purpose of an individual can be
contemplated. How can one small person, in a universe as big as this, have such an influence? Such a
character can be thought of as someone watching from the sideline, having an unknowing effect on
another s life, and it is those characters who are in the background who are often overlooked.
Although such characters may not have carried out significant actions, their role can be vital to
another s story. Such a character is called the Fifth Business. Provided in the novel Fifth Business, the
role of the fifth is defined as:

After years of suppressing the past, Boy s conscience is finally aligned with the present. Dunstan
becomes a significant factor of influence in the actions of Boy Staunton because of his emotions. As
Dunstan was tortured by his guilt, morally, he knew it was only right to tell the truth. As a result, Boy
eventually confesses. Similarly, Horatio too acts as Hamlet s second conscience. When Hamlet,
Horatio, and Marcellus are met with the ghost, Horatio displays his worry over Hamlet, informing him
on how Hamlet should choose not to follow the ghost, providing such reasons:
What if it tempt you toward the flood, my lord,
Or to the dreadful summit of the cliff
That beetles o er his base into the sea,
And there assume some other horrible form
Which might deprive your sovereignty of reason,
And draw you into madness? (1.4.69 74)
In this scene, Horatio s conscience is evident as it displays his unease over Hamlet s safety. Compared
to Dunstan s emotion of guilt, Horatio experiences fear for Hamlet s safety and attempts to convince
Hamlet to not follow the ghost in fear that he will draw Hamlet into madness. It is this particular
moment in the scene that demonstrates the significance of the fifth s conscience. Later in the play, it is
proven to be true that Hamlet has in fact fallen into madness. Both Horatio and Dunstan display the
aspect of acting

Influence Of Art In The Renaissance Art
Art is a skill that not everyone can grasp, however even in the Italian Renaissance, some people had
this great gift. Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael are three great examples of artists who
had a talent which would influence the art we do today. Leonardo da Vinci was a great painter in the
Renaissance. He was one of the key figures in the Renaissance. Two of his paintings are the most
famous paintings ever made. These are the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. Leonardo had many
interests besides art. He studied Anatomy, astronomy, botany, geology, geometry, and optics. Leonardo
was raised in Vinci Italy. The meaning of da Vinci is from Vinci . Leonardo da Vinci was born on
April 14, 1452 and died on May 2, 1519. One skill that Leonardo had was observing. Leonardo was an
apprentice to Andrea del Verrocchio. When his apprenticeship was completed, he stayed with Andrea
del Verrocchio as an assistant. They made a painting together in 1472. From 1478 to 1482 Leonardo
had his own studio. This studio was located in Florence Italy. Leonardo used his drawings to help him
with observations, creation, and inventions. Leonardo da Vinci was always interested in mechanics.
Leonardo had an incredible scientific mind. In fact, in the Italian Renaisance, he had one of the
greatest scientific mind. Although he had an incredible mind for science, his importance in art was far
greater than his importance in science.
A lot of Leonardo s designs were way ahead of their time, some of

  • 2. Analysis Of The Poem Pentagram Pentagram The simple definition of the term pentagram is a five pointed star whose arms are equal length that is drawn with a continuous line. Throughout history, this symbol has been used by religions and has many different meanings. The Pentagram can be traced back to carvings on stone walls in ancient Mesopotamia, dating these carvings leads us back to 3500 BC. Many cultures use the symbol for various things. It is a sign of royalty, representing power sent to the four corners of the earth; it was a sign of protection, it was the Endless Knot and was a symbol for Truth; knights painted it on their shields, a reminder of the five virtues they were to follow; Christianity claimed it represented the five wounds of Christ; it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For me, this means a lot. As well as teaching a young girl about the craft, often referred to as my grand Witchling, I am guiding my partner on the path to being Wiccan. Knowing the correlation to the horned God gives me another way to tap into those energies and helps me teach him to focus in the divine masculine with the use of symbols. In Modern Pagan/Wiccan practices the symbol is often used interchangeably with pentacle, though there is a difference. The pentagram has no circle surrounding it and is composed of a single line. It symbolizes the four quarters or directions, the four elements, the four seasons, and at the top point is spirit, the fifth element from which all others come. Satanists use this symbol, surrounded by a circle or not, upside down to represent their relationship with Satan. They have taken our sacred symbol and twisted it to mean the opposite of what we think and teach. In our modern age, with the extremes Satanists have gone to so they are noticed and make an impact on society, the pentagram with the point down represents evil. To most, it means a covenant with the devil and all that is unholy and against Christianity. The Latter Day Saints use the inverted pentagram on many of their older buildings, I found this amazing and since I live in Utah, about an hour from Salt Lake, I visited some of the older churches and found one downtown that still had the symbol emblazoned above the ... What if people divided society into groups based on what their personal virtues were, which they are made to work on throughout their whole lives? What if you had to stay with this group your whole life, leaving your friends and family behind forever? This is the case for the dystopian books Divergent and Allegiant, written by Veronica Roth. There is a lot of speculation in these books, about the portrayal of these groups, known as factions . The main speculation is on the group of individuals known as the Divergents. As well as using perspective to speculate on the Divergents, Roth additionally uses foreshadowing throughout Divergent, to link to the ideas explored in Allegiant. Roth uses foreshadowing to provide the reader with an advance hint of what is to come later in the story. She uses it mainly throughout the first book in the series to give the reader a lead in to what to expect in the final book. The most prominent example of foreshadowing in Divergent is when Tris questions the aptitude test; The tests don t have to change our choices, to which her brother Caleb replies with, Don t they, though? While some people would say the blame should lie on the upper management for hiring Terry, the previous manager was the one that constantly gave Terry above average grades on performance reviews. The narrator opens with a description of himself, his employees, and the fact that his business has recently grown. Soon after, the narrator, who is a lawyer, hires an additional employee by the name of Bartleby, the namesake of the story. He then proceeds to tell the reader all he knows of Bartleby: how he started off copying as desired; how he then preferred not to do the tasks that were asked of him; how he was eventually fired but refused to leave, even when the lawyer moved his practice; how he was put into prison; and how he died of starvation while incarcerated. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Secondly, we know the narrator to be the protagonist due to the fact that he is the one that experiences conflict in the story. According to Todd Davis, the lawyer is a man who has been led toward a realization of his shortcomings by his encounter with Bartleby (184). Furthermore, this realization has to do with the narrator s struggle between horological comfort and chronometrical ideals, or, in other words, his struggle between secular and divine principles (Davis 185). Since the protagonist of a story is, by definition, the main character that goes through a conflict, we can thereby deduce that the lawyer is the protagonist of Bartleby, the Scrivener. To go further, the implication that the lawyer is the protagonist also suggests that Bartleby is the antagonist, and this truly is the case. Notably, we cannot possibly know the real true Bartleby as he would describe himself because we only know of the lawyer s interpretation of him (Davis 184). This means that although Bartleby is the main focus of the narrative, he cannot be the main character. Additionally, Bartleby is the cause for the narrator s strife, and this reinforces his antagonistic role even though he is not a bad guy like some antagonists. In fact, Bartleby is more on the good side. The reader, like the narrator, feels compassion and sympathy for this poor soul, but, again, this is the cause for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This work can be said to be a post modern piece as Tiller has utilised several techniques common to this style. Bricolage is the creation of a work from a diverse range of things that happen to be available. In this case, Tiller, out of necessity, created his canvas board system. This particular artwork is an appropriation of the rather majestic painting North East view from the northern top of Mount Kosciusko by Eugene von Guerard, produced in 1863. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tillers has a distinctive artistic style that is easily recognisable. He has a strategy of appropriating images from reproductions of artworks and other sources, and re working them. Each board is like a grain of sand on a beach, or stone on a mountainside all go to make up the whole. In painting his work, Tillers dramatically enlarged the scale of von Guérard s colonial image, creating a new work in its place. It is of a monumental scale when compared to the original. The new sizing meant that the image was at once more present to the viewer, giving the impression that one can enter the landscape, but also more abstract, due to the grid left by the canvas boards. Tillers painterly surface jar with the parts of the boards that don t quite match, forcing the viewer to see this as appropriation, the illusion of space, the changes in perspectives. Tillers copies the form and line of the original piece, following an organic, natural shape and line. The shapes are irregular, yet the canvas board system distorts the overall image to give a muted geometric feel. They boards give strong angles and create a sense that a grid has been laid over the environment. The organic shapes create forms that are three dimensional, giving depth to the mountain landscape. Secondary data is published data, or data collected by others (Triola, 2010). Primary data is preferred in research because the knowledge is obtained first hand, where secondary relies on the observations of others. Statistics in Research Psychologists use univariate principles when they measure only one variable and multivariate procedure when using variables to ascertain relationships (Chow, 2002). Psychologists often use statistics to identify areas of research interest. In testing a hypothesis, many researchers need to turn questions into testable numerical data. One of the most common statistics applications is the testing of the null hypothesis. The null hypothesis involves the original claim like 50 out of 100 patients see success in regression techniques to overcome phobias and turning it into a mathematical claim (µ = 50). The alternative hypothesis represents the difference of a claim, or the probability that it is untrue because the test statistic is outside the given range (µ ≠ 50). Broadly defined as the faithful representation of reality or verisimilitude, realism is different from romanticism in the fact that it focuses on reality and characters, rather than the exaggerated and anomalous (CITATION). As Peyton Farquhar the protagonist swims to shore, he sees things that would be impossible for him to see. For example, as soon as Peyton surfaces, he witnesses nature at its finest both aesthetically and in size. He looked at the forest on the bank of the stream, saw the individual trees, the leaves and the veining of each leaf he saw the very insects upon them: the locusts, the brilliant bodied flies, the gray spiders stretching their webs from twig to twig. • 23. A Summary Of Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Medieval literature is a passion that has enveloped me since I read Chrétien de Troyes Lancelot during my freshman year. In this Arthurian romance, Chrétien represents Lancelot as conflicted a chivalrous knight whom one expects to find only in myth, yet in violation of the code of honor, desirous of his lord s queen. I began thinking of the tales of the Arthurian knights as more than legendary as potentially credible historical accounts. Soon, I wrote a paper on Gawain s rhetoric as a means to elicit specific responses in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Gawain s rhetorical strategies and their manipulations ultimately lead him to a deeper personal recognition and self acceptance. This early exercise alerted me to the pleasures of working with languages of the Middle Ages. My academic interest in Celtic Studies was piqued when I learned of Ogam stones in my Literature in the Natural World class. Ogam is not a spoken language, rather, a code of inscriptions that gave the Irish language an alphabet and supplied the Irish people with a means of writing on stone, wood, and other natural elements with relative ease. Ogam is also found in many manuscripts, where it is both written and read in a manner different from that employed when it is found on stones. As an aspiring academic in Medieval Literature, I recognize that knowledge of the literature of medieval cultures is vitally important. Irish literature, including Ogam inscriptions and manuscripts, is therefore essential to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Research Paper On Balanitis Balantiis Balanitis is characterized by inflammation of the end of the penis, or the glans. Often, the foreskin is also inflamed. There are several causes which involve bacterial and candidiasis infections, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), diabetes, phimosis, poor hygiene, skin conditions or irritation. It can occur at any age but most commonly affects young boys under 4 years old and uncircumcised men. It is uncommon in men who have been circumcised. Symptoms of balanitis include irritation, redness, and soreness of the end of the penis, or the glans. It ranges from a small localized area of redness confined to superficial skin surface, to the entire glans becoming red, swollen and painful. There may also be a clumpy, thick, discharge beneath the foreskin. In some instances, it is impossible to retract the foreskin or the patient may have painful urination. ... • 25. Multi-objective Reconfiguration of Electrical Distribution... EDSs are mainly designed meshed but operated radially for some technical and financial concerns. Distribution networks can be represented with a graph in ordered pairs consisting of a set of vertices, i.e. buses and a set of edges, i.e. branches; in terms of mathematics this equivalents to a sparse matrix which its non zero elements signifies the existence of an edge in the system. On this basis a typical distribution network is radial if it forms a tree where each load bus is exactly supplied from one source node, i.e. substation bus [11]. This suggests MOEDNRC problem as identifying the set of non dominated trees of the given graph. In this section we ve devised a heuristic technique based on this idea as well as the rules defined in [30] to retain the connectivity and radial properties of individuals during the optimization process. It s worth mentioning that these properties are broadly disturbed by EAs due to the stochastic nature of these algorithms unless a heuristic plan is devised to preserve the mentioned properties. As a result generation of infeasible agents in sheer numbers by EAs is quite a normal observation. The proposed technique is able to prevail over this shortcoming and would increase the performance of EAs as well. Before proceeding with the designed technique, some terminologies are first introduced to set the stage for the plan. In early American history there was a lot of conflict between European powers, and the U.S. mostly for their interference in the American ways of life and constantly creating settlements on our land. • 30. Pulp Fiction Analysis Tarantino s Depiction of Violence Quentin Tarantino is well known and often criticized for his depiction of violence in his films. Although at times graphic, Tarantino s violence holds a purpose. This paper will look at two films, Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction, and their depiction of violence and the aesthetics used. It will also look at classic film conventions and ultraviolence aesthetics used by Tarantino. Finally, the paper will determine what aesthetics Tarantino carries over in each film. Quentin Tarantino s depiction of violence in Pulp Fiction becomes bloodier and more graphic as the film continues. Early in the film, Martellus shoots two people, neither of which show any blood or even a gunshot wound. Tarantino uses a classic film convention where the victim of the gunshot clutches the spot where they were shot, covering what in real life would be a gunshot wound. He employs another classic film convention later when Mia is stabbed in the heart with the adrenaline shot. Instead of showing the violent act, Tarantino shows Mia s reaction to being stabbed in the heart. In the next segment of the film, Butch shoots Vincent with a small machine gun. It riddles Vincent s body with bullet holes and is the first time the clutch technique isn t used. Vincent s body is shown covered in blood around the abdomen in a very bloody bathroom. • 46. Elie Wiesel s Research For the survivor who chooses to testify, it is clear: his duty is to bear witness for the dead and for the living. He has no right to deprive future generations of a past that belongs to our collective memory. To forget would be not only dangerous but offensive; to forget the dead would be akin to killing them a second time. Elie Wiesel, Night While Elie Wiesel is surely right in his statement, it is not the job of only holocaust survivors, but of all people, to make sure that the horror of the Holocaust are never forgotten. In this experiment Rascher wanted to find the best way to save German pilots who ejected at high altitudes. Rascher had subjects put into low pressure chambers that simulated altitudes as high as 68,000 feet, and monitored their physiological response as they succumbed and died. (Tyson) If Rascher were testing for Pilot survival, he would no that the pressure would slowly increase, as the ejected pilot slowly parachuted down to the ground. Rascher, however, kept the pressure chamber at a set pressure, incorrectly representing how the human body would react to ejecting at high altitude. Furthermore, if the point of the experiment was to save pilots from high altitudes, why did they let some of the subjects die in the chamber? Shouldn t they be testing ways to revive them, rather than kill them? Even worse, to the subjects that survived the chamber, Rascher would perform vivisections, [dissecting] victims brains while they were still alive to show that high altitude sickness resulted from the formation of tiny air bubbles in the blood vessels of a certain part of the brain. (Tyson) The dissections of the brain to discover the formation of blood vessel could easily have been discovered in autopsy. Sure, this would require the subject to die, but at least they wouldn t have died by having their skull cracked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
