Key Objectives
Help develop a low carbon and climate change resilient agricultural sector in Africa with the
ultimate objective of reducing poverty for the rural poor.
Build capacity within the agricultural sector and facilitate access to appropriate technologies and
financial mechanisms.
Key Activities
Develop and test of a carbon methodology and appropriate monitoring, reporting and verification
solutions (MRV).
Develop a fund disbursement system that can be applied for distribution of project benefits to
smallholder farmer beneficiaries.
Carry out a Carbon Markets, Regulations and Standards Review.
Prepare recommendations for scaling up project activity and investment in low carbon agriculture.

Macro-assessments covering low carbon and climate resilient agriculture.
Carbon methodology for low carbon agricultural practices.

Expected Outcomes
Emergence of international and national policies that allow and encourage the inclusion of
agricultural and other land-based carbon sequestration activities in global carbon markets.
Creation of new financing and implementation models that make it technically and economically
possible for smallholder farmers to participate in and benefit from carbon markets.
Increase in the capacity to design, implement, monitor, and integrate agricultural carbon
sequestration activities within agricultural development programs and among development
professionals.
