FMP Pitch
Volcanic Environment
For my final major project I have chosen to create a
vast environment predominately constructed of
volcanic structures and lava. I have chosen this idea
as it is a style of environment that I am particularly
interested in developing and is an environment that I
would like to develop in 3D. I am designing this
environment with the mind set of creating it as
concept art for a 3D environment I would like to
create, though I will only be creating the concept art
for this assignment.
Target audience and market
When I am creating this concept art for a 3D environment, I am keeping in
mind the target audience and market. The usual target audience and
market for a game that would consist of this style of environment would
be typically an MMO/RPG game or a game with a fantasy element to it.
They players of these types of games that would consist an environment
such as this, would typically be from the age of 12 – 40+ as these are
typical ages for players of these types of game. I am also creating this
game for the male target audience, though males are not an exclusive
target audience for this type of game, I am aware that males would
predominantly play this style of game, as the concept art I am creating for
a 3D environment that would feature within a game, is quite boisterous
and may possible be not as appealing to female gamers. If the game I am
making concept art for would become an actual game sold across
different platforms, I would aim it more at the PC and next gen consoles,
as to make this style of environment effective, detail would be key and
most effective within a successful 3D game.
Constraints and ways to address
Constraints for creating concept art for this environment
would be time and medias available to me. The duration of
this assignment is not extremely vast, so I will have to be
mindful of this time limit.
I can address the time constraint by keeping a plan for this
project and updating it weekly or as regularly as possible, by
doing this I will keep track of progress and finish the project
before the deadline.
The range of medias available to me can effect my progress as
some programs and tools I have access to in college and not at
home and some tools I only have access to at home, as in
college it is hard to get hold of new forms of medias, as they
have very strict policies and a tight budget.
My Idea
My idea is for a vast landscape predominately filled with
volcanic structures and vast fiery, volcanic planes. Within the
environment will be huge volcanic structures that appear to
be a habitat for unknown inhabitants as well as huge
volcanoes and mountainous structures surrounding the
environment, this is the environment I will base the rest of my
FMP on.
I did originally consider a more predominantly ice/frozen
based project, featuring brighter colours and a generally more
upbeat appearance and feel to it. I decided to go with my
volcanic idea as I feel more comfortable developing this for
my FMP as it fits my interests more and if I was to create it in
a 3D engine, I would be able to do so quite easily and to a high
standard.
Mind Map
Below is a mind map for my idea, I used this to develop ideas on what exactly
my FMP should consist of and how I will approach the process of creating it
and with what medias.
Inspiration
For my FMP I have been particularly inspired by
photographers artwork and game art from
several 3D environment artists. I looked to the
photographers for a more realistic view of assets
to use within my FMP and to game artists to
seek inspiration on how I would develop my idea
if it was to be created in 3D in a 3D game
engine.
Photographers Artwork
"Life through time“ "400 Photographs" “The Earth From The Air"
By Ansel Adams By Frans Lanteng By Yann Arthus Bertrand
I find the following photography work very inspiring and I will most likely feature interpretations of all of the below artwork in
my FMP.
Endowment Artists Work
Though I will not use much of the following
work as inspiration for my FMP, I will look to it
for inspiration on what I would like my concept
art to theoretically develop into, in order to
inspire me to create my concept art for my FMP,
carrying out the process as if it was for the
creation of a 3D environment for a 3D game.

I find this work particularly
inspiring and appealing and it will
help me in generating ideas for
my FMP and it will help me
envision what my concept art for
my FMP could one day turn into.

Concept Art
Finally, below is some of the concept art I have created so far, at the end of my FMP I
hope to merge all of my artwork into one vast piece, filled with an assortment of
volcanic structures.
