The document summarizes the process taken by the author to create a 3D environment. They began by determining scale of buildings, then modeled basic cube structures to differentiate accessible and inaccessible buildings. Various interior and exterior models were created, such as doors, windows, furniture. Models were textured and the environment was laid out. Additional details like trees, bushes and animated doors were added. An overlooking tower area was also designed, featuring a library interior with artifacts, bookshelves and paintings. The author documented each step and provided screenshots of the progressing 3D environment.

Hadj Ounis's most notable work is his sculpture titled "Metamorphosis." This piece showcases Ounis's mastery of form and texture, as he seamlessly combines metal and wood to create a dynamic and visually striking composition. The juxtaposition of the two materials creates a sense of tension and harmony, inviting viewers to contemplate the relationship between nature and industry.

Prolog
1. The firststepin my3D environmentcreationprocess, wastodeterminethe scale of the different
buildingsinmyenvironment,Ineededtodifferentiate the scale forthree differentbuildingsthatI
will model tobe accessible andinaccessible,The inaccessiblebuildingmodelswillbe simply
modelledusingbasiccubesthatwill be texturedwithdoors,windowsandroofsaddedtothem.The
accessible buildingsmodelswill be modelledsimilarlythoughtheywill be accessibleandwill have
modelsonthe inside. There will be 3differentsizesof house building, asmall singleflooredbuilding,
a slightlybiggersingle flooredbuildingandalargertwo flooredbuilding.
Beloware screenshotsof me determiningthe bestsizesforthe buildings, youcanclearlysee the 3
differentbuildingsizes.l Iwill model themfurtherusingthesebasiccubestoscale the accessible and
inaccessiblefinal models.
2.
3. The nextstepI tookwas to create doors andwindowsasyoucan see below.Icreatedsimplemodels
inslightlydifferentvariationsthatwill be featuredonthe inaccessible andaccessible building
models.Colourswill be alteredinfinal productiontocreate variationtomy3D environment though
mostof the modelswill be the same throughout.Below youcan see the processI wentthrough
usingprimitive shapestoaddand alterothershapestoreplicate simplewindowsanddoorsin
differentvariationsandamidstandbelow themyouwill see the othermodelsIcreatedinLightwave
Modellerformyenvironment. All of these modelswere createdusingmysketchdrawings.
Door model
20. Nowthat I have a large amountof my models,Iamreadyto importsome of themandstart to layout
my 3D environment,incorrelationtomyplanning.
Thoughbefore Icoulddo thisI had to ensure thatall of mymodelswere texturedwithUV maps,so
theydo notall appear the same plaincolour.
As youcan see below,Ialreadyassignedcolourstomymodels,Ijustdidnotassignthemas UV
textures, sotheydonotstay attachedto the models. Iwill now UV map all of these modelswith
simple textured colours,asIdo notwant to make my environmenttoocomplexandrealisticlooking,
as it ismore aimedat people of ayoungerage.
21. FirstlyIlaidout the objectsasI saw fitand thenaddedthe texturedversionsnexttothem, to
replicate the layoutthoughwithaddedtextures. Ialsoaddedthe grassmodel below the building
model and the duplicable fence modelaroundthe buildingasdescribedinmysketchdrawings.
I createdthe fence model usingsimple shapes, ensuringthatitcan be easilyduplicatedtofirthe
borderof differentsizedbuildingsasyoucan see below, thiswillbe texturedwithasimple white
colour.
Due to several issuesregardingUV maps,I decidedtotake a much simplerapproachtotexturingmy
models,simplybytexturingthe modelswithsimplecoloursinUDK,thisallowedmuch more
variationandmanoeuvrability aswell assavingme alotof time,asUV texturingisquite complicated
and takesa vast amountof time whenyouhave a lot of models.
22. For thisprocess, all I hadto do was create a material andassigna colourto that material, thenassign
that material toany appropriate models, allowingforaneffective waytotexture withoutmakingmy
modelslooktoorealisticandmore childrenappropriate.
I carriedout thisprocessforall modelsof my currentmodelstoendup withthe outcome below.
Nowthat I have foundthe bestwayto texture all my models usingsimple colours, all thatisleftto
do isimportand laythe rest out, accordingto my sketchdrawingsandmy main layoutdesignasyou
can see below.
23. I decidedtoaddmore detail tomycity layout plan, identifyingthe positioningof variousbuildings
and otherassetsas youcan see below.Itisquite thoroughandclearlyidentifieswhere models
shouldbe positionedinmyfinal 3Denvironment.
24.
25. NextIensuredthatmy inaccessibleandaccessiblehouse modelswere completed, before exporting
themand importingthemintomy3D environmenttobe laidoutas in my citylayoutplan.Below you
can see the final modelsformyinaccessible andaccessible buildingmodels, asidefromaccessible
house model 1as I have alreadyimportedthismodel asyoucan see above. Ireplicatedthe
accessible building1and positioneditinplace where all of the otherbuildingmodelswill be placed,
so I can easilyidentifywhere eachbuildingshouldbe positioneduponimportationintoUDK.
26. Belowyoucan see myaccessible building2model,accessible building3and inaccessible building1,
2 and 3 models.Theywill simplyhave differentvariationsof colouraddedtothemwhentheyare all
positionedaccordingtomycity layoutandeventuallytheywill all be fittedwithdoors(animatedif
buildingisaccessible),windowsandroofs.

28. I alsoaddeda shop model, hospitalmodel,a bankmodel andambulance modelswhichyoucansee
individuallybelow.Ialsolaidoutthe grass to outline the firstpartof the environmentandaddeda
road that leadsoff tothe yet to be createdsecondpart of the environment.Below youcansee all of
thislaidout.
29. All of the buildingspositionedbelow werepositionedaccordingtomyplanas youcan see above and
the ambulance modelswere placedtothe side of the hospital model.

Hospital Model
31. Nowthat my buildingswere positionedcorrectly,Iwasreadyto add doorsand windowstothemas
youcan see below.
I thenidentifiedanyareasmighthave lookedabitemptyor dull andthisprovokedme todecide to
create a newline of models, tomake the environmentappearmore interesting.
Belowisa listof models, boththatI had alreadyplannedoncreatingalongwithanew setbut at this
pointhave yetto do so.
Teddybearstatue
Bush/hedge model
Tree model
Benchmodel
Streetlightmodel
Cashpointmodel
Picture frame model –thisis an interestingfillermodel thatIwill create sodifferentpictures
can be assignedtoitto create a sense of variationinthe environment.
Water fountainmodel
Americanstyle postbox (tobe placedat the frontof everyhouse)
32. The firstthingI decidedtomodel wasthe bushmodel,Idecidedtocreate thisfirstas itcan be used
to fill alarge amountof areasand is keyinthe constructionof the islandonwhichsitsthe
overlookingtower. Iwill alsobe placingthisaroundandonthe secondpart of the environmentand
aside the road leadingtoit.
I createdthismodel usingasimple box model withalarge amountof polygons, beforeextruding
those polygonsandroundingthe objecttocreate a simple,more unrealisticimpressionof abush,fit
for myenvironmentasyoucan see below.
33. NextIdecidedtocreate the tree model.Icreatedthe base usinga simple cylindershaperand
adjustingthe toppolygontoalterthe shape to be wider at the bottomand thinneratthe top.
I thencreatedthe leafsforthe top of the tree, thisissomethingthatIhave neverdone before,soI
had to experiment.LuckilyIhada rough ideaof whatto do and itworked.I useda simple cylinder
shape splitinto3 and usedthe twisttool, whichhelpedme tocreate a leaf shape as youcan see
below.
34. I addedmore leafstothe top of the tree and endedupwithwhatyousee below.
Thoughas you can see below,whenIdecidedtosave thismodel,Iranintoan error,as I have
recentlycome tothe endof my trial forthisprogram at home,I onlyhave the discoveryedition,
whichlimitsthe complexityof modelsyoucancreate, whichina wayis goodfor me,as I do not
needcomplex models.
35. To bypassthiserror, I decidedtoreduce the amountof polygonsinmymodel, bysimplymerging
multiple polygons,intosingularpolygons.
Thisprovedto be quite anawkwardprocessfor thisparticularmodel,soIdecidedthatI wouldsave
the tree base and leafsasseparate models, andattachthe leafswithinthe UDKengine.Thisis
actuallyverybeneficial tomyenvironment, asitwill enable me toaddvariationinmytree models,
as whenduplicated, the treeswillall notlookexactlythe same, due toa variationinleaf placement
and base size.
Before Idecidedtoexportbothmybush andtree models,Ifirstlyensuredthatmytree model had
UV maps assignedwithtexturesasyoucan see below.
NowI was readyto importthese models.
As youcan see below, because I addedUV mapsto texture the models, theycome inreadily
textured.
36. Nowall I had to do waslay the tree modelsandbushmodelsout.
As youcan see below,Ihave laidoutmy tree andbush models,Ithinktheyhave helpedtoadda lot
of appeal andvarietytomy environmentandIam veryhappywithmy resultssofar.
NextIdecidedtocreate my postbox model, usingprimitive shapestocreate a model replicatingan
Americanstyle postbox.Iwill create these modelssotheycanbe recolouredeasilytoaddvariation.
37. Aftercreatingthe mainmodel,Idecidedtotexture the postbox handle, sothatisthe onlypart of
the model thatwill remainthe same colourwhendifferentcoloursare appliedtoduplicated
versionsof the postbox.
For thisto workefficientlythough, the handle istobe importedandexportedseparately.
I thenbeganto place the modelsintomyenvironment.
NextIcreatedthe standfor mybear statue.Ididthis inUDK, usingsimple box shapesandstacking
themon topof each other.
38. The nextstepisto create the teddybearstatue, anotherthingIam not veryexperiencedin
modelling,butIwill create mybestattempt.Luckilymyenvironmentdoesnotrequire particularly
advancedanddetailedmodels.
At thisstage I was quite happywithmyprogressandbeganto add furniture tothe remaining
accessible unfurnishedhouses.
AfterthiswascompletedIbegantoanimate the doorsfor the accessible houses.
39. The processof animationcanbe quite complex, thoughwhenyougetthe hangof itis rathereasy,
especiallytorepeatthe same animationasnecessarywithmydoormodels.Asyoucansee below I
have createdan animationprocessinwhichthe dooranimationistriggereduponapproachand
reverseswhencomplete.
I assignedamovementtrackwhichdetermineswherethe doormodel isatwhattime,as youcan
see below.
40. Thisis a veryeffectiveprocesswhichIwill repeatthroughoutanditcan be usedon othermodelsif
movementanimationisnecessary.
NextImovedontothe layoutof the secondpart of the environmentwiththe overlookingtower.I
startedby layingoutthe groundand bushesandaddingthe waterfountain.
I createdthe overlookingtowerinUDK.
I nowhad the groundsfor the secondpart of my environment, includingthe areasurroundingthe
towerwithbushesandthe toweritself withspace fordoorsandwindowsandIhave evensetup a
fullyworkingliftfromthe bottomfloortothe top floor.
41. Belowisa screenshotof the entrance tothe liftand the animateddoormovingupwards,Icreated
the animationforthe liftdoorsusingthe same methodforthe door animationforthe houses.Using
a movementtrackI determinedthatuponapproachthe liftdoorwouldhave movedupwardsinto
the liftwallsbecomingnearly outof visionandwhenthe liftbase issteppeduponitwouldmove
upwardsto the secondfloor.
42. I put muchthoughtintowhat thismainoverlookingtowerwillcontain,IdecidedthatIwouldmake
it intoa librarytype buildingfilledwithbooksandvariousartand artefactsto create a sense of
mysterytothe environment.
For thisinteriorIneedto model the followingmodels:
4 unique artefacts
Duplicable bookshelf’swithbooks
Artefactstands
Unique framedpaintings
Rugs
Beloware the modelsforeachof the above and theirUV maps.
Artefactstand
ArtefactstandUV map
43. Artefact1– The artefactsare not meantto be anythingspecific, theyare vague mysteriousobjects
that create a sense of mystery.
Artefact1 UV map
49. Bookoutside model –No UV mapas colour will be addeduponimportationandreplicationtocreate
more variationwhenplaceduponshelves.

50. Picture frame UV
Paintingmodels
To fill wall space Icreateda large amountof paintingsusing the paintsoftware.Noneof themare
meantto be anythingspecificandtheyare made completelyof randomshapesandcolours. Each
paintingwascreatedwitha simple box shape whichIcreatedaUV map for inwhichI attachedeach
individualpainting.
In total there are 18 unique paintingscreatedbyme asyou can see below. Eachwill be placedwithin
a scaledframe whenimportedintoUDKforplacementonthe wallsinside the overlookingtower.

I am nowat the stage of finalisingmyenvironment,Iamhappywiththe amountof modelsIhave
createdand I am readyto layout and finaliseeverythingelsewithinthe environment.
I will nowlayoutall of the modelsandtexture where Isee fit.
Below are screenshotsof myfinal environment ineditormode withall modelsimportedand
textured. Youcan see animationtriggers,lightpointsandeveryassetappropriatelylaidoutwithin

well withthe targetaudience.
