Causes of Students Mature at a Younger Age
Nowadays, children putting on makeup and dressing in adult fashions are not an unusual or
surprising thing at all. Children becoming more and more mature and they are said to be
growing up too fast. Child development Ruth Liew asks, “Why do they have to look like little
mini adults?” What causes them to become so mature at this young age? They become mature
at a younger age due to environmental factor, expectation of parents towards their children
and family breakdown.
One of the causes students mature at a younger age is environmental factor. At this
modern era, students are surrounded by high technology and different types of media. They
will influenced by these technology and media as they tend to learn from what they see.
Everyday, they will be in touch with media such as internet, television and radio. They use their
modern gadget such as smartphone to surf the internet and watch video. Some pictures and
videos in the internet are not suitable for them. The pictures and videos may contain things
that are too mature for children to see or watch. They may imitate the behavior of adults in the
pictures and videos. As the result, they become more and more mature like a little mini adult.
Besides that, expectation of parents towards their children is an important cause of
students mature at a younger age. Parents at this decade tend to rush their children to learn
more things as if they are caught up in a rat race. They want their children to be more
competitive when their children are working in the future compare to other children. They
want their children to know so much such as the skill to navigate the internet and be a
computer expert at a young age. They expecting or imposing, too much and too soon that they
do not know they have affected a child’s psychological, emotional and social development.
Their behavior causes unnecessary distress, stress and pressure to their children. For example,
students will lack of sleep because they are forced to learn too many things such as music and
art. They even do not have the time to play and enjoy. Students are not physically, socially and
psychologically ready to handle it and they will not have a happy childhood. They will become
more mature than other students that have happy childhoods.
Last but not least, family breakdown will also cause students to mature at a younger age. A
husband and a wife divorce is a very common issue in our society now. However, it is not a very
good thing for a child in that family. Students in such family have to face the trauma of
watching their parents spilt up and overcome the absence of their father or mother in their life.
Students have to face prolonged stress and overcome it. They will be more mature if they can
go through it but some will end up to involve in unhealthy activities such as vandalism. They will
learn more than other students such as learn to think maturely and take care of themselves as
their father or mother is absent. It is clear that some students from a broken family will act
more mature than other students.
To conclude, environmental factor, expectation of parents towards their children and
family breakdown cause students to become mature at a younger age. However, is children
growing up so fast is good for the society? In my opinion, students or children should not
become so mature at a young age. They should enjoy their school life and have a happy
childhood. Students should have an innocent fun and some happy experiences.
