TIA 2012 Presentation
100G is here. We are at the cusp of a step upgrade in network fiber bandwidth from hundreds of gigabits to several terabits, an order of magnitude increase in capacity. So far, the 100G discussion has primarily been focused on optics and coherent detection i.e. the fundamental building blocks of 100G. This is akin to figuring out the “how to” of internal combustion – what must be determined now is the “engine block” that wraps around the technology to enable rapid and successful adoption.
We explore the mechanisms that can deliver 100G to your networks efficiently. Why? Because to successfully bring down the total cost of ownership any solution must address not just maximizing fiber investment but also lowering CAPEX and OPEX. We look at various mechanisms with a perspective towards 100G that affect efficiency of space, power and network utilization.
Network Hypervisor is a critical component in the development of service-centric networks. It enables carriers to develop virtual networks that support multi-tenancy and single customer ownership on a shared underlying physical infrastructure.
Disaggregation, automation and autonomy in optical networkingADVA
At this year's NYSERNet conference, Niall Robinson discussed the latest breakthroughs and field trials on the path to optical network automation and disaggregation.
Our APRICOT 2019 presentation delivered by Rocky Zhou explored the optical technologies that are driving the transformation in metro networking. Open line systems are supporting best-in-class equipment deployment and optimized ROADM solutions are enabling deployment simplicity, space and power efficiency, and low first-in-cost. What's more, next-gen coherent solutions are revolutionizing metro capacity-reach options, delivering significant cost savings and service flexibility.

Evolution of high-speed interfaces in disaggregated open networksADVA
Many see full network disaggregation as the ultimate tool to increase flexibility and free operators from dependence on vendors. But partial disaggregation can also go a long way to reducing effort and cost.
At March 2018's Netnod meeting, Stephan Neidlinger showed how high-speed interfaces and higher-order modulation need to be supported by open optical line systems, and outlined how multi-layer and multi-vendor orchestration and management are key.

Network management systems are undergoing a transformation into semi-automated eventually autonomous control systems. In his presentation at MPLS+SDN+NFV World Congress 2019, Ulrich Kohn outlined the early stages of this shift. He put progress with SDN and AI into the context of multi-vendor networking and explained the crucial role of open interfaces as well as the need to balance continuity with the desire for automated, semi-autonomous control.
This presentation provides a primer in current 100G technology developments, with a focus on the two market available 100G transport approaches: multicarrier direct detection and single carrier coherent. Additionally, different application scenarios with hybrid 10G/100G and multiple 100G transmissions are discussed elucidating fiber impairments and compensation techniques.

IIoT Digital Transformation for Plant Equipment MonitoringYokogawa1
Even in the age of Digital Transformation, non-mission critical plant equipment is monitored by daily manual operator rounds or may go unmonitored altogether. This lack of information about equipment status can lead to reactive maintenance and downtime. By adding a wireless sensor network and analytical software designed with non-mission critical equipment in mind, plants can gain visibility to all assets, detect abnormal conditions, predict failures, and prescribe proactive maintenance to keep equipment healthy and running optimally.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
