Nel webinar del 21 Novembre sono state illustrate solo alcune delle slide di questa presentazione.
In this lecture we look at the patterns in chapter 18 in the textbook (Patterns of Enterprise Application Architecture). The lecture is in two parts. First we go through each of the patterns and explain each.
Then in the second part we look at a problem we have to solve and try to get the patterns to show themselves at the time they are needed.
Now that we have looked several design patterns, from the databases to web presentation, we are now ready to look at the application as a whole. In this lecture we examine the considerations we face when creating an application architecture and we look at each of the three layers.
The lecture presents one way of designing enterprise applications. The goal is to create scalable services.
We also look at the Play framework in more detail and look at REST.

The Data Source Layer patterns introduced in lecture L08 are structural patterns. They deal with moving data to and from the database. They try to solve the impedance mismatch problem. However, they do not have any logic as to when and under what circumstances data should be loaded to from the database and when written. Clearly accessing the database is slow, and doing so needlessly hurts performance.
In this lecture we look at the behavioural problem. How to solve issues like writing only changed record back into the database, loading only the needed data once, and how to load the data model partially.
We introduce three new design patterns: Unit of Work, Identity Map and Lazy Load.

Bet-the-Farm UX: How to harness User-Centered Design, Design Thinking and Lean Startup to drive mission critical UX innovation and lasting organizational change.
Startups and large organizations alike have to be nimble and react to market change faster than ever. The entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs within these organizations know that, but don’t always have the talent and tools at their disposal to be successful. John’s team has increasingly been asked to support these innovators and support their existing teams so they can drive both exceptional experiences and organizational change.
Find out how John and his team approach “bet-the-farm” innovation projects by taking the best elements from major movements (User-Centered Design, Design Thinking, Lean Startup) plus the psychology of persuasive design in order to gather critical insights about users, workshop with stakeholders and align on goals, and nurture both the product and the team behind it.
John will show concrete examples where they helped at the world’s biggest online payment company, the world’s biggest academic association and a major governmental agency all succeed at innovating where they were unable to do so in the past.

FIWARE Training: Introduction to Smart Data ModelsFIWARE
An online training course run by the FIWARE Foundation in conjunction with the i4Trust project and IShare Foundation. The core part of this virtual training camp (27 Jun - 01 Jul 2022) covered all the necessary skills to develop smart solutions powered by FIWARE. It introduces the basis of Digital Twin programming using NGSI-LD (the simple yet powerful open standard API enabling to publish and access digital twin data) combined with common smart data models
In addition, it covers the supplementary FIWARE technologies used to implement the rest of functions typically required when architecting a complete smart solution: Identity and Access Management (IAM) functions to secure access to digital twin data, and functions enabling the interface with IoT and 3rd systems, or the connection with different tools for processing and monitoring current and historic big data.
Extending this core part, the training camp also cover how you can easily integrate FIWARE systems with blockchain networks to create audit-proof logs of processes and ensure transparency.
In the new era of digitalization, there is an ever-growing need for design and production processes capable of increasing systems quality, reducing risks and the chance of errors, while, at the same me, reducing overall production costs. Nowadays, more and more systems design scenarios comprise a high number of domains.
However, the underlying tool landscape is still dominated by closed ecosystems, resulting in the design data remaining in separate silos. To effectively deal with novel, massively diverse yet interconnected engineering scenarios, while also considering industrial sustainability and the well-being of the future digital society, we have to propose new ways to look at the digital thread, supporting every phase of a digital engineering lifecycle, while turning the siloed multi-domain engineering data into a holistic, accessible and globally analyzable digital thread.

This talk serves two main purposes: first, to overview the state-of-the-art digital thread tool landscape along the aspects of domain and vendor/tool coverage, scalability, as well as decisive functional capabilities, such as the support of transformations or interdomain link/trace handling. We review offerings such as Intercax Syndeia, Smartfacts, eQube, ModelCenter and the IncQuery Suite, and demonstrate some practical aspects through a complex multi-domain engineering scenario.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
