Global CEOs have recently said leadership development is their number one concern. Why is leadership development such a challenge? Many organizations spend too much on training that does not produce behavior change. Coaching can produce behavior change, but without comprehensive assessment, coaching can be quite inefficient and can produce the wrong behaviors. The most cost-effective leadership development programs integrate assessment, blended learning, and coaching.

What are the obligations of managers? The answer to this question varies from organization to organization based upon a number of factors such as industry, culture, department, skill level of the team, etc. Regardless of the organization, at the very heart of this question lies a dilemma. Who’s to say which of the outcomes is more or less important? In fact, we’d probably agree that the outcomes suggested by such a continuum are all important depending upon the situation. With so many possible outcomes and objectives legitimately competing for our managers’ attention, are there a set of uniform skills or competencies we can use to guide our managers ongoing training and development? In this webinar you'll learn:
Why coaching skills are important for your managers, leaders and organization

Editor's Notes
In our last meeting we discussed the potential of GreenSky to grow exponentially over the next few years. This type of growth will need a strong foundation to build from. It is obvious that you have spent valuable time throughout GreenSky’s infancy sifting through multiple candidates that could help to mold such a foundation. As I am sure you know, it is those that you have put your faith in to help begin your endeavors that you will want to look to as GreenSky continues to build. Leading a team to success can be a daunting task. Lines of communication are not always easily maintained, process improvement can prove to be a major under-taking, and finding the confidence to promote from within can be difficult. Why continue to sift through candidates for major roles in your company, when those who understand it the best are already on your team. Leadership training can help you discover the potential you already have at your finger tips.
As I began to do the research into our options for Leadership Training, it became blatantly obvious that this could get quite costly. Taking that into consideration, I focused primarily on the more cost effective avenues available. Now, if you are interested in sending some of your employees on an Alaskan cruise for 2 weeks to build better leadership techniques, please let me know. I will be more than happy to arrange that exertion. But for now, I figure we will just focus on those opportunities that allow us to stay a little closer to home. Those opportunities include but are not limited to On-site training, training workshops, live webinars, self-paced courses and team-building adventures. As we go through this presentation, we will discuss each of these opportunities in-depth, covering the average cost, the number of employees required to participate, examples of training available in each option, and the pros and cons associated with that particular course of action.
On-site training is a great way to build and promote any type of training. Classes are available in just about any genera business owners, such as yourself, could imagine. Once the decision has been made regarding the general type of training required, certified trainers will contact members of the company to construct a training session that meets the exact needs of that company. Certified trainers will come to the location of your choice, and conduct all training on the premises. All that the trainee is asked to provide is a room large enough to hold the session, a projector with computer plug-in capabilities, and a ready to learn attitude. These training course usually require a class of at least 10 employees. The average cost will range somewhere between $2,000 and $5,000 per session. There is always the opportunity to have one or more of your employees trained to be the resident trainer. Those courses are offered throughout the year at various locations and usually cost between $1,500 and $3,000. The resident trainer(s) can then attend any of the courses and bring the information back to GreenSky to train others, competently.
The pros and cons associated with this type of training includes:Pros associated with this type of training include: All employees can participate Conservative travel expenses Courses are tailored to the needs of the company One-on-one communication with trainer throughout the session Classes can be broken up into multiple sessions at increased cost Expense is tax deductableCons associated with this type of training include: A minimum of 10 employees are required for most on-site training. This could drastically effect productivity, if conducted during regular business hours. The expense of conducting such training . The average cost of On-Site training ranges between $2,000 & $5,000 Continued Education Units are not offered with most on-site training seminarsRecommendation regarding this particular type of training: These types of seminars can be very useful when the expense of training a large group of employees is a concern. On-site training may not be the most beneficial first step on GreenSky’s road to leadership training, but it is defiantly something to consider in the future.
Workshops are a great way for tomorrow’s leaders to learn the communication skills and team-building techniques that will help their company be a stronger unit today. Throughout my research of multiple training organizations, I encountered three reoccurring themes that could prove to be extremely beneficial to GreenSky. Management Skills for First-Time Supervisors, Coaching and Mentoring for Leadership Success and Excelling as a Highly Effective Leader. Each of these workshops focus on how to motive, communicate and build stronger teamwork within an organization. We will consider each of these options further in just a moment. Most of the seminars offered in the Atlanta area give a discount to any company sending 4 or more individuals to any one particular workshop. One-day or multiple-day workshops are available. The cost of each varies, but the average cost for 4 leadership trainees to participate in any one-day event is between $550 & $600. Lets take a more in-depth look at some of the workshops I previously mentioned.
Training is an essential element in any successful organization. So when budgets are tight, it is vital to find ways to train smarter. In an effort to meet this need, we are proud to offer our instructor-led soft skills workshops online. With online training, you can immediately start to improve your job skills or the job skills of your team, department, or entire company. With no travel and no lost time out of the office, The Training AdvantEdge makes it easy to get the training you need. For individuals who are unable to devote a full day to training, we offer Brown Bag "Lunch 'n Learn" Seminars. These mini workshops utilize fun and objective assessments to provide a low cost introduction to topics related to personal development and workplace issues.Webinars can offer a low-cost alternative for conducting product demos and generating leads, as well as identifying prospects via simple online registration for the events. As a training tool, Webinars allow companies to offer valuable education to customers who are often time-crunched and inconvenienced by having to physically show up for a conference or seminar.
The pros associated with this type of training includes: Cost effective. The average cost of webinars and self-paced courses are $400 to $600. Entire teams can participate for one price with most webinars. Studying at ones own pace can lead to better comprehension of the material Webinars and self-paced courses are usually given in short 2 hour intervals. The cons associated with this type of training includes: Not always conducive to team’s schedule. Webinars are often broadcast live. The times when the webinar is offered could cause scheduling conflicts. CEU are not always offered with this type of training. If the training material is purchased for one but used by many, only the original trainee receives the CEU, when offered. One-on-one interaction with the trainer is minimal. This type of training usually only offers one-on-one counseling through question and answer sessions at the end of the program or via email. Team interaction could be limited if opportunities are not available to discuss progress and comprehension.Recommendation regarding this particular type of training: Webinars are a great way to build on to a current system. The lack of personal assistance could cause some ideas to get misconstrued if a basic understanding of the concepts are not previously understood.
Team-Building Adventures are a fun, interactive way of building strong bonds between all members of a team. These activities help to build the self-esteem necessary for risk-taking in business, problem-solving, communication, coaching and leadership. Activities such as Build-a-Bridge, GeoTrek, Great Speech, Ropes Courses and other Team Performance Challenges are excellent ways to build trust and respect amongst team members. There is a minimum requirement of 15 people necessary to participate in these events. The average cost of half-day events range between $4,000 to $7,000. These events can be held in various location throughout your area.
The pros associated with this type of training includes: Building stronger bonds between team members. Any type of change can be difficult, these types of activities can make the changes regarding leadership easier to accept. Increases communication between team members. Opportunity to apply the communication strategies already in place and test their effectiveness. Offers both half and full day training. These events are often offered on weekends. Enhanced personal understanding of team membersThe cons associated with this type of training includes: The expense of conducting such training . The average cost of these training events range between $4,000 to $7,000 for half days & $6,000 to $10,000 for full days. A minimum of 15 employees are required for most adventure training. This could drastically effect productivity, if conducted during regular business hours. Continued Education Units are not offered with most adventure training seminars Depending on the location chosen to hold these events, travel time and expense could be negative consideration.
What is in it for me! Well in the perfect world leadership training will bring you peace in the workplace, prosperity for all and a powerful connection to the world around you. But considering the world is far from perfect I think that the best we can hope for Increased Productivity and Effectiveness, Improved Management Skills, Enhanced Problem-Solving Skills, Committed and Dedicated Employees, Amplified Communication Skills. Lets stop here for a minute. Of all the benefits that I have previously mentioned, this one deserves to be seriously considered. When a company improves their communication skills they are constructing the basic building blocks that will be needed for the construction of all the benefits previously mentioned as well as Higher team performance, Stronger teams, Innovative growth concepts, and any of the others mentioned on this slide. Without communication no training is effective. The ability to communicate with team members is crucial to the continued growth of any company. Team members will often attempt to communicate, only to find that the information has been misconstrued or misunderstood. Sometimes it can feel like communication is put into a meat grinder as it travels from one team member to the next. When it finally reaches the intended person communication has been ground into Caution, Action, or Communion. All of these words are made from the original “Communication” but mean something totally different. Leadership training can help to eliminate the grind of communication. It will help to set standards for distributing information and build the habits that will grow to be the just another part of GreenSky corporate culture.
