5. The duroc breed which is the
outcome of blending of two breeds-
jersey reds and durocs of new York.
6. The breed is moderately red
coloured with shades varying from a
golden to cherry red colour
7. Duroc have considerable variation in
colours. An acceptable colour may
range from a very light golden,
almost yellow colour, to a very dark
red.
8. The red is a very practical colour that
suits pork producers, and since it is a
solid colour there is no concern
about fancy points of proper
markings.
9. Duroc have a medium lengths and
slight dish of the face.
10. The ears should be dropping and
should not be held erect.
The duroc is noted for excellent rate
of gain and feed efficiency.
11. Maturing early
The duroc sow has large litter and is a
good mother.

meat type
12. The weight of mature bear is about
400 kg and sow it is normally 350 kg.
The breed is now popular both in
south east asia and in the American
tropics mostly due to its hardiness and
fast growth.
