They are a small body size compared to
other exotic and crosses pig types.
There name varies from region to region, for
example: Jangali Bandel / Wild Boar, Pygmi
Bandel, Hurra, Banmpudke, Chwanche,
Pakhribas Black Pig and Dharane Kalo
Banggur.

PYGMI BANDEL
➢ Found in throughoutnorthern India, Bhutan, and Nepal.
➢ Smallest, adult males average 65 cm long and 25 cm tall.
➢ Females are slightly smaller.
➢ Males average 8.5 kg in weight.
➢ Their coatshave blackish brown bristles over gray-brown skin.
➢ Reproductionis seasonal, and the birth peak coincides with the monsoon in late
April and May.
➢ Gestation is approximately100 daysand litterssize 2 to 6.
➢ Sexual maturity at 13 to 33 months and live 10 to 12 years in the wild.
➢ Small family 5 to 20 members.

➢Found in across the mid hills of Nepal.
➢Kept under semi-intensive systems.
➢Mostly found in black color.

birth weight 800 gm.
➢Matured males average 24 and female 32 kg live
weight.

➢Bampudke is the domesticatedform of Jangali
Bandel.
➢Known as smallest domesticatedbreed of pig.

of 138 days.
➢Average litter size is 4.7 and weaning size is 3.4 with
birth weight 650 gm.
➢Matured males average 20 and female 19 kg live
weight.

PAKHRIBAS BLACK PIG
➢ The Pakhribas Black Pig was Developed at Pakhribas
Agriculture Centre, Dhankuta Nepal through three
ways crossing between Saddleback, Fayun and
Tamworth.
➢ Black in color.
➢ Average litter size is 9.4 and birth weight is 1.0 kg.
➢ Matured male average 170 and female 160 kg live
weight.
➢ Resistance to several diseases and parasites, and
superior over other local breeds.

• Black pig found in the eastern terai and hills of
Nepal.

LANDRACE
➢ Originally it is a Dennish pig popularly breed to
produce highest quality bacon in the world.
➢ white pig characterized by long deep side,
square ham, short legs with heavy lop ear
(dropping ears) inclined to the front above the
eyes and long snout.
➢ The carcass is leaner with less back fat and lard.
➢ popular for its high prolificacy and for efficiency
of feed utilization.
➢ In Nepal Landrace is used for developing
crossbreed.

➢ American breed.
➢ Red in color with shades varying from a golden to
cherry red color.
➢ Has dropping ear.

➢ Mature boar weight about 400 kg and sow 350
kg.
➢ The carcass is considered as a good meat type.
➢ It is widely used for cross breeding.

B. Powkh ultya:

C. Ghatee khuilae:

AMERICAN BREEDS
A. New hampshire
➢ Single comb.
➢ The body less rectangular in shape than rhode island
red.
➢ Dual purpose breed.
➢ Hardy and produces large brown eggs.
➢ Lower neck feather are distinctly tipped with black in
female
➢ tail feather are black.
B. Rhode island reds:
➢ Originated from rhode island in new england.
➢ Long rectangular body which is also broad and deep.
➢ Back is flat and have forward breast
➢ black and sickle feathers in tail.
➢ Slight black marking at the base of lower neck of
female
➢ Brownish red but white and brown are not
uncommon.
C. Plymouth rock:
➢ Long body with broad prominent breast.
➢ Have single comb.
➢ 7 common varieties in this breed based on blue,
barred, white, buff, silver penciled, partridge and
Columbian.

A. Australorp:
➢ Developed in australia principally for egg production
rather than meat.
➢ Back is long, and body slopes gradually towards the
tail.
➢ The comb is single, the body is black, beak is black,
shank and toes are black and white.
➢ They produced brown shelled egg.
B. Sussex:
➢ There are 3 varieties in this breed such as light sussex,
speckle sussex and red sussex.
➢ These light sussex has been introduced by pakhribas
agricultural centre, dhankuta, nepal.
➢ Long bodies which are broad at shoulder with good
depth from front to ears.
➢ The birds have brown colored shanks, beaks and toes.
➢ They have single comb.
➢ Birds are primarily of meat type but good laying strain
have been developed

A. Leghorn:

beak, skin, shank and toe.
➢ There are single comb.
B. Minoro:
➢ Have long body, large sized comb and wattle.
➢ Large white ear lobes, long strong bodies,
legs set squarely under the powerful looking
body are the distinct characteristics of this
breed.
➢ The beak, shanks and toes are black.
➢ They are excellent producer of large white
eggs.
➢ The egg shell is chalk white in color.
