Question 2 – How does your media product represent particular social groups. My magazine has a very emergent representation of the group it is aimed at which is mainly young male groups who want to be different to the mainstream groups. On the jicnar scale they would know as radicalists. The magazine’s front cover denotes darkness with the only on the mid close up. This represents teenagers as being all about themselves as they are in the spot light. The fonts used in the magazine represent the social group as ‘anti-mainstream’. It also represents them as minimalistic. This means that they are not over the top with what they do and what they wear e.g. they are not like Goths.
Representations of my target audienceAs you can see the images I have chosen that I feel represent my target audience are of males that are wearing very minimalist clothing and are not really doing very much e.g. some youth representations are parties, smoking and drinking. My sub genre are completely different from this, as they are an emergent representations of youth, and I feel like I have represented them well through my magazine. The person on my front cover is dressed in smart clothes. This represents the social group as mature but at the same time they know when to ‘switch off’.
The current dominant representation of youthThese pictures are all dominant representations of youth. As you can see they are not positive unlike the representation that my magazine portrays of youth.
Communicating with my target audienceThe colours inside of the magazine are very bright but, again, they are very minimalistic as there are is little colour. I have done this in order to communicate with my target. These colours tells them the magazine is for them. The colours will change the mood or suit the mood of the consumer. I feel that my magazine gives a construction of reality for my group. It really gives an insight of the world of indie/rock which is good for the target audience and also advantageous because people who do not like indie/rock will get a good understanding of it and change their views of that genre. A you can see on my contents page, The colours that are on there are bright but the a main background is white.
