Types of output devices
What are output devices?
Any peripheral that accepts data from computer and prints , projects or reproduces it is known as output device .
The out put may be audio, video, hard copy and printed paper etc.
Process
We give input to a computer using input devices and the
computer performans operations on the data and displays the
out put to the user using out put devices.
Out put devices include things like that.
. Monitor
️ 🖥️
. printers
️ 🖨️
. speakers🔊
. Projectors
Different types of output devices:
Monitor:
A computer's principal out put device is a monitor, often known as a visual display
unit ( VDU) .it displays the processed data like text, images , videos , audio, etc.it
makes images by arranging microscopic dots in a rectangular pattern know as
pixels .The sharpness of an image is determined by the number of pixels.
There are two types of monitor viewing screens :
Cathode ray tube (CRT):
This type of monitor is based on cathode ray tube in which CRT generates beam of electrons with the help of
electron gun they strike on inner surface of phosphorescent of the screen to generate images.CRT monitor holds
millions of phosphorus dots in three different colors red , Blue and green . These dots glow when beam struck on
them .
Key features:
Bulky and heavy design
Excellent color accuracy
fast response time
Usage:
Mostly outdated, used in older systems or vintage
and gaming set up
LCD ( liquid crystal display)
.thin light weight and energy efficient
. Common in laptops and desktops
.uses liquid crystal and back light to produce images .
LCD monitors use liquid crystals placed btw two layers
of glass or plastic with a back light to display image
Key features:
Slim and light weight design
. energy efficient
. Affordable compared to newer technology
Usage :
Common in most modern computers , laptop and
television.
LED(light emitting diode )
.A type of LCD with LED back lighting
.brighter more energy efficient and has better
contrast then traditional LCD
. very common in today's monitor
Key features:
Thinner and more energy efficient than regular LCDS
. better brightness and contrast
. improved Color accuracy
Usage: widely used in homes , offices and
professional environments .
Characteristics of
monitor:
Resolution pixels:
Pixels are smallest element of any image
Size: the size of monitor is diagonal measurement of
desktop screen is typically 14 to 25 inches.
Refresh rate:
Total number of times per second that an image on a display
Is repainted or refreshed.
Printers:
Printers are information output devices that allow you to print data on
paper. Or in other words,it is an output device that creates a head copy
of the processed data or information.Printers are divided into two main
categories.
. impact printers
.Non impact printers
Impact printers:
Such type of printers uses a print head or hammer to print data on paper. Here to
print paper the hammer or print head strikes an ink ribbon against the paper and the
character starts printing.some of the types of impact printers are.
.Dot matrix printer
. Daisy wheel printer
.Line printer
.Chain printer
Daisy wheel printer:
Daisy printer is a mechanical impact printing
technology.it is called daisy wheel bcz it's printing
mechanism looks like a daisy .it's speed is
usually 25 to 50 characters per second.
Dot matrix printer:
It uses 9 to 24 pin print heads depending upon
the quality print print required.24 pin printers
produce more clarity than 9 pins dot matrix
printer.usually it is inexpensive.
Line printers :
Line printers also called line at a time printers
and speed ranges somewhere btw 1000 to 6000
lines per minute.
Characteristics:
. Extremely low consumable costs.
. fairly noisy
. it's perfect for large scale printing bcz of it's
inexpensive cost.
. physical contract with the paper is required to form
an image.
Non impact printers:
Print characters without the use of ribbon these printers are often
known as page printers bcz they print full page at a time .
Types:
.laser printer
.ink jet printers
Laser printer:
It uses laser beam to produce high quality image on paper. It use powder
and heat to produce images. It is used for black and white printing.
Advantages:
Cost effective
.high print speed
.high paper capacity
Inkjet printer:
.it uses liquid ink to print on paper.it is used for color ful printing.
But can be used for black and white image but mostly gives
best result for colored image and pictures.
Advantages:
Small foot prints . Compact design. Versatile
. environment friendly . Beat pictures quality
Characteristics:
. Quicker
. superior quality
. Don't produce noise
. support wide range of fonts and character sizes
Plotter:
. It is a device that prints high quality
Graphics in variety of color formats . it's
Work is similar to printer it has more
Advanced features .
.it is used to print large maps , large format
Printing, pictures charts and 3d post cards.
Characteristics:
.it is slow and expansive
.large size prints can be taken via plotters
Projectors:
Is a device that allow user to project there out put
on to large area such as screen or a wall .it can
be used to project out put of a computer and
other devices onto screen .
Characteristics:
. These are light weight
. portable
. projectors are most effective option for large
screen video.
Speakers:
Speakers are connected to computer to
allow song
To be out put sounds
Cards are required for
Better working.they
Comes in variety of
Shape and sizes .
Characteristics:
. speakers are available in wide range of quality
and prices.
.small plastic speakers with low sound quality are
connected to computer.
Head phone:
To hear sound use air
Buds with computer
Or smart phone.it
Prevents inconvenience to
others they can be wired
and wireless.
Characteristics:
. These can be called headset or sterio phone
.it is used for two way communication
.Air phone or air bud are names for in ear
variants.
