A Leader is someone in authority to lead others
to accomplish a goal(s). A leader needs to be
able to motivate others to accomplish a goal(s)
while at the same time encourage others to
work toward their own professional goals.
What is leadership?
Leading people
Influencing people
Commanding people
Guiding people
 Leadership style is the manner and approach of
providing direction, implementing plans, and
motivating people.
 Leaders vary their styles. A leader is not strictly one
or another style. Most leaders use all three styles; one
style, however, becomes the dominate one.
 Positive Leaders use rewards (independence,
education) to motivate employees.
 Negative Leaders use penalties with employees. These
leaders act domineering and superior w/people.
Negative penalties include: days off without pay,
reprimanding in front of others, assigning unpleasant
job tasks.
“Managers are people who do
things right, while leaders are
people who do the right thing.”
Warren Bennis
1)AUTHORITARIAN (AUTOCRATIC)
2) DEMOCRATIC STYLE
(PARTICIPATIVE STYLE)
3) LAISSEZ-(FAIRE STYLE)
ï‚Ą Tells employees/students what they want done and
how to do it (without getting the advice from
others).
ï‚Ą Works well if you don’t have much time to
accomplish goals or if employees are well motivated.
ï‚Ą Participative style
ï‚Ą The leader involves one or more
employees/students in the decision making process
(to determine what to do and how to do it).
ï‚Ą Leader maintains the final decision making
authority.
ï‚Ą Allows everyone to be part of a team—everyone
feels that they have participated and contributed.
ï‚Ą Encourages participation, delegates wisely, values
group discussion.
ï‚Ą Leader allows employees/students to make the
decisions.
ï‚Ą Leader is still responsible for the decisions.
ï‚Ą Employees/students analyze the situation and
determine what needs to be done and how to do it.
Leader sets priorities and delegates.
ï‚Ą Leader has little control. Team has little direction or
motivation.
LEADERSHIP STYLE IN KPO
INDUSTRY
 Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) is a
form of outsourcing, in which knowledge-
related and information-related work is carried
out by workers in a different company or by a
subsidiary of the same organization, which
may be in the same country or in an offshore
location to save cost.
 KPO business entities provide typical domain-
based processes, advanced analytical skills and
business expertise.
 Process transparency is a major barrier to using
KPO services
 "KPO is merely a continuation of BPO, though
with rather more business complexity.
 The defining difference is that KPO is usually
focused on knowledge-intensive business
processes that require significant domain
 The profile of people being hired to serve within
KPO service companies are more diverse than just
being drawn from technical IT services – these are
people with MBAs, and medical, engineering,
design or other specialist business skills.
