The circulatory system is composed of the heart, blood vessels, and blood. It has two circuits: pulmonary circulation and systemic circulation. In pulmonary circulation, deoxygenated blood is pumped from the heart to the lungs where carbon dioxide is released and oxygen is absorbed. The now oxygenated blood returns to the left side of the heart. Systemic circulation pumps oxygenated blood from the left side of the heart to the rest of the body via arteries and returns deoxygenated blood back to the right side of the heart via veins. The heart is located in the chest and has four chambers that pump blood through valves into the pulmonary and systemic circuits in a double circulation system to supply oxygen and nutrients to tissues.
