This document summarizes a study on the effectiveness of pre-writing activities to help increase students' confidence and writing output in a second language (L2). The study found that some pre-writing activities can increase students' writing confidence. Students learned different pre-writing strategies and found the activities helpful for understanding topics and decreasing anxiety, though the activities did not increase the number of words students wrote. The study concluded that using a variety of collaborative pre-writing strategies is beneficial for students' writing production.
