4. Idea of service on FI
• Employer of IBM
• responsible for relationships with universities
• Long time observed ideas, presented by Jim Spohrer
• He proposed the idea of Service Science as the best
way of improving of IT studies in Czech Republic
Presented by
Jaroslav
Zelený in
2007
Why?
5. Service Science on FI
The fact IT is a service was not reflected in study curricula
Jaroslav suggested the founding of a new study program, based
on
• Multidisciplinary approach
• Intensive long term internship
This idea was accepted thanks the long friendly relationship
with the dean of the faculty
SSME master study program was founded in 2008
7. Interim project
Large praxis for the students – to
gain experience in reality
• For business partner
• 5 months, 4 days per a weekBusiness
• For research or university partners
• 10 months, 2.5 days per a weekResearch
9. Problems
• SSME was primarily created for students of bachelor
study programs of IT
• An interest of students of other study programs was
not expected
Emphasis to
managerial
classes
• The number of student grew up very fast
• To cover administration of the interships was out of
the range of academical staff
Administrative
problems of
internships
• The concept of study program was too liberal
• Absence of clear rules
Insufficient T-
shape profile
Students must pass the entrance exam
Special position – administrator of
internships was crated
Four pillars of SSME were created

14. Expansion of Service Science
We try to propagate the idea of Service Science on
other faculties (mostly informatics or economics)
We are struggling with very conservative approach
Faculties in Czech republic are still preferring I-shaped
graduates and study programs
The pressure of labour market may change it
