Out of 25 people surveyed, 19 people had positive
comments regarding the initial 3-minute storyline of
our film, 3 people elicited mixed responses, whilst 3
people did not like the idea of the film.
Some negative and mixed comments received
included:
“I like the overall plot, yet I feel the swearing to be
too gratuitous.”
“The robber wearing all black is too clichéd.”
“Although I like the film idea, I think that’ll probably
be too hard to film, just keep it simple.”
Do you understand the storyline?
23 of the people surveyed understood the storyline of
our film, that it involves an unsuccessful criminal
botching a shop robbery whilst two ‘senior’ criminals
disapprove of the lack of success he attains.
Only 2 of the surveyed did not understand the
storyline, indicating that the plot is rather simplistic
and easy to follow, which is ideal and what we were
aiming for as a group.

16 people believed that the film was a Crime- Comedy
film, which is the intended genre of the film, whilst 4
people believed the film to solely be a crime film, whilst
a further 4 believed that it was solely a comedic movie
based on the initial storyline reading.
This ultimately means that 24 people out of the 25
surveyed correctly assumed that the genre of our film
was to be a Crime/ Comedy. Thus showing that the
initial idea has translated well when synopsised.
What settings would you imagine being
included within this film?
All of the people surveyed imagined that a Corner Shop
or Post Office would be included within the film,
however it does say within the synopsis of our film that
the main character attempts to steal from a corner
shop, so this is entirely understandable.
Just under half of those surveyed believe that some
form of ‘Lair’ should be included as a way of indicating
have a space to plan their crimes. Banks are obviously
included, as they are inexplicitly linked to heist films.
Bookies and Jewellers were also noted by the minority
of those questioned, indicating that the criminals may
rob smaller places before pulling off a ‘large heist’.

There was a wide variety of answers regarding what
type of music that would be played within this scene,
yet our intention as a group was to play something
Britpop-esque or Independent Music, so overall these
results reflect that quite well.
5 of those surveyed believed that Indie music should be
used whilst the majority, 11 agreed that general Pop
Music should be used.

The majority of people believe the film would be
certificated as a ‘15’ film by the BBFC, which was the
intended certificate. Although 5 people believe the film
would be rated an 18 due to the swearing present, we
believe it is used in an appropriate manner based on
the situation and is not necessarily gratuitous, meaning
that it would not be enough to be rated 18.
Would you watch our film?
23 people claimed that they would watch our film,
whilst 2 denied that they would do so. Interestingly,
those who claimed that they did not understand the
storyline were the same people who claimed that they
would not view the film. This may indicate that if
somebody grasps the basic concept of a film’s premise,
they are more likely to see it.

Any other comments about our film?
15 people chose to leave this question blank whilst the remaining ten wrote some of the following
comments:
“I think the film sounds really good so far!”
“I do like the film idea so far but I just wonder if the characters will be that likable.”
“I like the overall plot, yet I feel the swearing to be too gratuitous. Maybe that could be rectified
within future re-writing of the script.”
“It’s not my sort of film to be honest, the robber wearing all black is too clichéd. I don’t think
the plot is easy to understand either. I don’t really understand why the character is stealing.”
What is your age?
Out of the 25 people surveyed, most (15) were 17 years
old, whereas 5 and 2 people were 16 and 18 years old
respectively. These people all fit the criteria of the
intended target audience, those between the ages of
15-30 years old.

We aimed to get as close to a 50-50 split in both
genders as we possibly could when surveying, yet as
though only 25 were surveyed, this was impossible, yet
13 females were questioned, whilst 12 males were
aswell. Incidentally, the only two people who claimed
that they did not wish to view our final film were both
women, indicating that the film may be better off as
targeted towards males.

What genre of film do you typically prefer?
There was a wide variety of different answers regarding
people’s favourite film genre, however most people
agreed that their collective favourite was that of
comedy, which is ideal as our film is that of a comedy.
However, this is also positive as our film received
overwhelming support from those who would not
typically prefer a crime film, showing that it is able to
transcend people’s expectations.
