CoServ has been using ArcGIS/ArcFM/Designer™ successfully for over 10 years. As part of a recent Maximo/GIS integration effort, CoServ has reviewed its business workflows with SSP. In particular, and within GIS, CoServ’s designs life cycles have been altered to include: Pre-Posting to DEFAULT, and removal from SDE of the Esri version as soon as the design is in construction. As well as Partial Energization as a means to gradually post portions of as-built network into DEFAULT. The most important benefits from introducing these steps are: A.- Early availability to the whole company of GIS data regarding designs under construction. B.- Network energization status (and other details) monitored during the construction phases of a design. C.- Minimizing the number of active versions in the SDE state tree. The first two benefits improve overall company-wide business, by having early and timely knowledge of the projects being constructed in the field, overlaid on the current distribution network. While minimizing the versions dramatically improves the GDB performance and efficiency.

For the last seven years MLGW has successfully implemented GIS using ArcGIS/ArcFM ™. The GIS serves as an enterprise backbone for a variety of business applications where utility assets play a crucial role: Inspection, Maintenance, New Construction, OMS, among others.To support the life cycle of MLGW’s assets, SSP has implemented a rule-driven and fully-configurable asset tracking mechanism built into the GIS. Rules specified by different business units determine: What network elements are to be tracked as assets. What attributes of those assets are to be monitored. How and when these attributes may change.

To improve the performance of photovoltaic system a modified cuk converter with Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) that uses a fuzzy logic control algorithm is presented in this research work. In the proposed cuk converter, the conduction losses and switching losses are reduced by means of replacing the passive elements with switched capacitors. These switched capacitors are used to provide smooth transition of voltage and current. So, the conversion efficiency of the converter is improved and the efficiency of the PV system is increased. The PV systems use a MPPT to continuously extract the highest possible power and deliver it to the load. MPPT consists of a dc-dc converter used to find and maintain operation at the maximum power point using a tracking algorithm. The simulated results indicate that a considerable amount of additional power can be extracted from photovoltaic module using a proposed converter with fuzzy logic controller based MPPT

The Resort Municipality of Whistler sought to upgrade and maintain their fire hydrant system through GIS technologies by creating an updated fire hydrant database with a digital maintenance checklist form, a new layer with GPS coordinates, and a data model conforming to Canadian standards. Key steps included using Excel to create an efficient digital form, ArcGIS to load GPS-located data into a geodatabase following the specified data model, and FME to reposition point locations with new Easting and Northing coordinates. The updated fire hydrant database will help ensure hydrants are optimally maintained and GIS continues to effectively manage the municipality's assets into the future.

This document provides an update on Solargis' uncertainty map for its solar radiation database. It summarizes Solargis' methodology for developing the map, which considers various uncertainty drivers like clouds, aerosols, water vapor, terrain variability and more. Preliminary results estimate the total GHI uncertainty to be within ±4% to ±8% for a long-term yearly value, representing an 80% probability of occurrence. Next steps include further refining the uncertainty model with new empirical evidence and developing an uncertainty map for DNI values.

United Power used spatial load analysis to forecast future electricity demand and identify locations for new substations. They integrated historical electricity usage data from customer information systems with geographic information systems (GIS) to create maps showing peak load density over time. These base maps were combined with housing growth projections and known large commercial loads to spatially forecast electricity demand out 10 years. The analysis identified future load centers to determine needed substation upgrades and locations for new substations to support infrastructure needs. This spatial approach improved forecast accuracy for efficient utility planning.

Front Range Wireless constructed a 100 kW solar site for the Bureau of Land Management in multiple sections over several months. They removed trees, installed road base and drilled 184 caissons to support the solar panels. Front Range Wireless provided engineering and turnkey construction services and was praised for their professionalism, productivity and problem solving abilities on the multi-site 455 kW solar project with a $2.3 million budget.

Hard-linking or integrating models to solve for a Nash equilibrium produces the same results, but integrating the models may be faster, solving all equations at once rather than iteratively. 2. Integrating the models as a mixed complementarity problem (MCP) and solving simultaneously finds the solution faster than hard-linking separately. 3. Integrating the models as a nonlinear program (NLP) is even faster, solving large problems with over 2,500 scenarios in just 7 minutes, compared to 10 hours and 10 minutes for other approaches.

This document summarizes a project investigating the use of GIS software for weather forecasting applications. The project was completed for Scotia Weather Services Inc., which provides weather forecasting services and wants to use GIS to analyze how weather events could impact the power grid. The project used QGIS and ArcGIS to process wind speed data into maps of wind gust speeds at power line pylon heights. The outputs identified regions where wind speeds exceeded thresholds that could affect transmission lines. In the past MTEMC has oversized their transformers across the utility due to a lack of consumption data in GIS. MTEMC joined SSP Innovations to auto-load SAP consumption data, perform aggregation for peak usage, and to visualize the data in ArcGIS Online via a thematic map. Field troubleshooters use Collector for ArcGIS to view the load profile for any transformer showing peak usage against the transformer size. This results in cost savings and has generated drivers for many other uses of the data and of ArcGIS Online.

MTEMC recently completed a major project to merge multiple geodatabases into a single new GDB, apply data model changes along with corresponding data migration, and to implement voltage levels with feeder manager 2.0 to provide connectivity upstream of a circuit breaker. Several of these changes required the geodatabase to be at state 0 (no versions). MTEMC utilized SSP Innovations' All Edits State 0 technology to successfully complete this project while maintaining their 1700+ design versions.

In 2015, CoServ made the determination to migrate all asset data management into IBM Maximo. We opted to leverage ArcGIS for Server as our main integration point between Maximo and GIS. By hosting our utility infrastructure data in feature services, we allowed Maximo to view spatially enabled information for visualization within its own environment. Additionally, Maximo updates feature classes and their related tables based upon changes made in Maximo seamlessly through the services. By leveraging Global IDs and GUIDs as the direct linkage between Maximo assets and GIS features, CoServ is now able to ingest Maximo assets directly into the GIS environment. This presented GIS end users access to asset related information in their native environment. The migration has been a highly successful implementation. It has alleviated the strain on GIS to manage and maintain asset related information while still providing a way for GIS to access it. This solution has provided a stable integration between the two environments with minimal customizations. By thinking a bit out of the box, CoServ was able to create a unique integration that solved all of our problems.

GIS to Schematics - The Data Exchange

Esri GeoConX 2016 White Paper Presentation by Peter Zimmermann of UDC Inc. and Robert Smith of Pacific Gas & Electric. While recently converting their electric distribution sources, PG&E included an initiative to convert their GIS data into a standalone ArcSchematics model. The schematics model was developed to support the engineering group as well as PG&E‘s DMS outage management system and was tailored to provide a geo-schematic representation following major roadways to enhance locating of key primary system features. Software was developed to allow daily GIS updates to feed the schematics model directly thus greatly reducing latency between the two systems. Maintenance of schematics consists of daily executed minor whitespace management edits ensuring ease of use.

McKenzie County, North Dakota saw huge population growth due to an oil boom, but lacked centralized GIS capabilities. They hired a consultant to implement an Enterprise GIS solution using ArcGIS Server and SQL Server. This centralized their data across departments and enabled mobile access and editing. It provided efficiencies over their previous disjointed file-based system. While IT support was a challenge initially, departments are now realizing GIS's value beyond maps and more support is being provided. First Time User with Creating a Simple yet Effective Workspace

For the City of Oak Ridge, Kenric McCay needed to import data from AutoCAD to GIS. His department had never done this before, and they were trying to phase out the use of AutoCAD for mapping. One problem was importing anchors into GIS because many of the anchors were multiple lines. They did not want to spend a great deal of time individually merging all these multiple lines together to form one anchor. A solution for this was to use FME. Not knowing, and still learning FME, he attempted to merge all lines associated with each induvial anchor together. He converted this to a shapefile and loaded it into GIS. The task was completed with help from the forum and from webinars.

This document describes TAGS, a visual analytic system that allows telecommunication companies to optimize their GSM, UMTS, and LTE networks. TAGS downloads network data from Excel files, uploads it to a file viewable in Google Earth, and displays base station locations, sector coverage areas, and terrain profiles to help identify issues and opportunities for improvement through antenna adjustments or additional stations. It provides a low-cost solution to share optimization insights with local technicians without complex software. Over 350 users at one telecom company are using TAGS, resulting in over 60 improvements and cost savings of over 2 million rubles in one region in 2016.

They georeferenced existing plans, digitized drainage features, attributed data to the digitized features, and created a geodatabase to house the updated drainage data. This project consolidated Blue Earth County's drainage records, improved data accuracy, and established a process for ISG and the County to regularly update the drainage data going forward. The updated digital records will benefit Blue Earth County, ISG, other engineering firms, and the public.

MTEMC utilized SSP Innovations’ All Edits State 0 technology to successfully complete this project while maintaining their 1700+ design versions.

No need to wait for As-Built posting… All Enterprise GIS applications can make use of data scheduled for or during construction. For example: Number of new services as the network grows. Load calculations taking into consideration current and future network branches. Simulations. Forecasting. Others… Newly installed network branches, within an overall project still under construction, will be energized in phases… The partial energization is available to the Enterprise GIS as the network evolves. Deleting SDE versions while they are not needed improves GDB performance.
