Write about the preliminary task. What were you asked to do? How did you
find each stage of the process?
We were asked to film 5 shots which included someone walking down a corridor,
opening a door, a close up of them opening the door, walking into a room with an
over the shoulder shot of both of people as they have a short conversation. I
found that doing the over the shoulder shot was hard because my group were
working in a very small space.
Write the 3 techniques/rules you learnt about during the preliminary task:
I have learnt about shot reverse shot (swapping over the shoulder in a
conversation), continuity (when the clip flows smoothly throughout) and the 180
degree rile (to prevent disorientation and confusion when being watched.
List three things that went well during the filming/editing process:
I think that as a group we worked well together, we didn’t really have many
errors when filming and we managed to do the task well and to a good standard.
List three things you think could have been improved in these stages:
We could have maybe have had a bit more room to improve our shot reverse
shot. Also we could have maybe been a bit more creative with our script as ours
was quite bland, as well as focusing more on facial expressions and body
language when starting a new shot.
Has the preliminary task given you any ideas for you 2-minute film

Yes. It has made me think about maybe doing a horror or something similar as I
think I could use a lot of different technical elements like if I break the 180
degree rule there will be a clear disorientation within the character, making it
seem like more of a horror.
