Preliminary task evaluation
Josh Geeves
What worked well?
The group worked well together and that was what
helped us complete the task to a good standard in
the deadline we had.
We filmed plenty of shots from a variety of
different camera angles which benefitted
editorial purposes.
We edited the final piece to be as smooth as
possible.
Any mistakes?
Sometimes our camera positioning
and shots were shaky or did not shoot
up to the standard we wanted. To
rectify this we simply had to reshoot
the shots we were not satisfied with.
Use of camera
We tried to use as many shots as
possible throughout our preliminary
task, some with more success than
others. The shots that didn’t produce
good quality were discarded in
replacement of shots that did work.
The process of filming
We started with a story board plan in order to
establish an idea of what we wanted for our task
to be successful. When it came to filming the task
we set up where the two actors (Joe and Luke)
had to be placed before recording. If the shots
quality was not good enough we would have to film
again until it was suitable.
Use of premiere pro
We used Premiere pro by way of editing the shots
we had gathered and making them run smoothly
together to result in an appropriate film. Premiere
pro is reliable and relatively easy to learn how to
use which is why we used in it in .our preliminary
task
Film features
We used Match on action during the exchange of
the card and sweet and that worked effectively as
it make the scene run smoothly. We also abided by
the 180 degree rule when exchanging dialogue to
avoid confusing the audience, keeping joe on the
right hand side of the camera at all times and
keeping Luke on the left hand side at all times.
Sound
Sound was perhaps a factor in our Preliminary task
that would need improvement. In most of our
shots there was background noise from other
groups/classrooms that we were unable to cut out
from the shots. This meant there was other noise
in our preliminary task. To improve this we need to
practice more using premiere pro so that we know
how to eliminate background noise.
Overall
Overall, our first task was rather successful
considering it was our first attempt in AS media.
For our next tasks, we will work on trying to
improve how to eliminate background sound the
camera picks up whilst filming. Our group worked
well together and that had a positive effect on
the final product.
