Some of the earliest artworks were created between 25,000-15,000 years ago in the northern Spain mountain ranges and southern France, featuring realistic paintings of animals using mineral pigments and animal hair brushes on cave walls. Notable examples include the Altamira Cave in Spain and the Lascaux Cave in France, showcasing multiple colors. Later Neolithic art from 6,000-4,000 years ago in eastern Spain depicted both animals and human activities in a more schematic style using monochromatic black pigments on stone backgrounds, possibly representing meaning beyond dependence on nature.
