The Love Of My Life Analysis
In T. Coraghessan Boyle s story The Love of My Life, it centers around the teenage relationship
of Jeremy and China who claim to be in love with one another and nothing else matters to them.
Their relationship; however, is centered around what a relationship is like in movies and based of
the physical attraction to each other as well as being naive to what real loveis as this is their first real
relationship with a significant other. The relationship between the two is great until they encounter
their first real obstacle in the relationship when China becomes pregnant. The egocentric nature of
both characters takes over and there begins to be cracks within the relationship. Now they face the
reality of becoming parents and they blame... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
China s negative outlook on teen pregnancy can be concluded to the individuals around her as
why she believes what she does. Parents affect their children s views on many topics concerning
various aspects, and it seems as if China s parents have created a negative outlook on teenage
pregnancy. China says, I will never be like those breeders that bring their puffed up squalling
little red faced babies to class (Boyle 558). Her negative outlook has obviously been skewed as
she believes teens become pregnant based off of their own choice and not the product of
chance. She does not seem to understand that all the right steps can be taken to avoid pregnancy
when having sex, but still the woman can become pregnant. Her take on this subject can be
attributed to believing the views of her privileged community, families who have never been
affected by teen pregnancy, and therefore, can not give an accurate representation of their lives
or how teen pregnancy may have helped their life for the better. The quote shows her naive
nature as the education on teen pregnancy does not seem evident, but instead the words of her
parents and those unaffected by teen pregnancy and taken in and believed. Her view on
pregnancy, of course, can be attributed to why she never told her parents or anyone that she was
pregnant. Now she appears as a hypocrite as she is the one who is a

Understudies In The Vietnam War Essay
In 1965, John Tinker, his sister Mary Beth, and a partner were sent home from school for wearing
dull armbands to challenge the Vietnam War. The school had set up a methodology permitting
understudies to wear a couple of political pictures, however had disallowed the wearing of
armbands disagreeing the Vietnam War. Their fathers sued, yet the District Court chose that the
school had not dismissed the Constitution. The Court of Appeals agreed with the lower court, and
the Tinkers addressed the Supreme Court. In a 7 2 decision, the Supreme Court chose that the
understudies had the benefit to wear armbands to class to challenge the Vietnam War. Value Abe

Public Policy Analysis Model
1.Public policy is a set of laws that are enacted to reach a specific goal. These goals are genuinely
made to be for the interest of the greater good, and the majority of people. For example, the
policy for red light cameras in Rochester was enacted to help reduce the accident rates from
people running red lights. Even though this causes people to pay fees for getting caught by the
cameras, the greater good is helped because there are less traffic accidents. Public policyhelps steer
the country in the ways that our great minds think would be the best direction for the majority.
a.Discussed in class were 6 models of policy making. The first is the institutional model, it stresses
the opportunities and constraints on policy that are a part of the very structure of the American
constitutional order. The second is the Elite model, it focuses on influence on policy by powerful
individuals or groups. The third is the pluralist model, it stresses ... Show more content on

Policy analysis is different from academic research as academic research is done through
conducting studies on samples that are usually from a much small grouped that policy analysts use.
Academic researchers usually do not have access to the same resources that government employees
will have available. However, they could generally be used in a similar manner, just on a smaller
scale. Journalism however is much different than policy analysis. Journalist while able to find
credible sources, it is harder for them to substantiate their claims. Journalist usually conduct their
research through interviews rather than sample testing which is considered not as reliable.

cause for individuals who have a difficult time having the necessities required to survive. If

Media And Gender Roles In The Media
At a young age, children begin to comprehend gender roles, which are a set of societal norms that
determine what is considered acceptable, desirable and appropriate based on an individual s sex.
We obtain these gender associated roles from various places and one dominant source with direct
influence is the media. Media plays a critical role in influencing genderroles through impacting the
career choices we make, the behavioral patterns we implement in our lives and the sexual
stereotypes we have been conditioned to accept. In the first place, society has grown to
associate certain occupations with a particular gender. One reason this occurs is as a result of
mass media displaying a certain gender occupying a particular job position more than the other
genders. Females are often displayed on television, magazines and internet sources as occupying
positions such as housewives, nurses, receptionists and teachers. On the other hand, males are
portrayed in roles such as the family s breadwinner, doctors and principles. For example, in the
show I Love Lucy , Lucy is a housewife looking to escape her domesticated lifestyle. In the
process of doing so her ventures quickly turn to antics, leaving husband Ricky, who is the family
s breadwinner, to correct the mess she creates (Rosie 357). Similarly, in another show called Our
Miss Brooks , Miss Brooks is a teacher who battles with a bossy school principal, Mr. Conklin.

Ellipsis Of Subjects And Objects In Mandarin Chinese
Ellipsis of Subjects and Objects in Mandarin Chinese
Mandarin Chinese as one of the unique languages in the world has many significant features, and
one of them is ellipsis of subjects and objects. In English, a complete sentence consists of at least
three basic elements which are a subject, an object, and a verb. However, compare with English,
Mandarin Chinese does not have strict grammatical rules to form a complete sentence because
people can leave out subjects or objects when they talk to each other. Although there are many
sentences in Mandarin Chinese lack of subjects or objects, the sentences are still clear and
grammatically correct. Therefore, can we conclude that subjects and objects are not necessary for
spoken Mandarin Chinese? In other words, when can a speaker omit the subject or the object in
Mandarin Chinese?
Ellipsis of subjects also occurs in spoken English, but it normally in a set phrase. For example,
people often say see you tomorrow rather than I will see you tomorrow. Moreover, due to
grammatical requirement, not every sentence in English can omit the subject. Although sometimes
the sentence is still understandable without the subject, the meaning will become ambiguous.
Compare with English, ellipsis of subjects is more common in spoken Mandarin Chinese. Unlike
English, it does not have any grammatical restriction and can be used in any sentence. Therefore,
In order to have a better understanding of ellipsis of subjects and objects in Mandarin Chinese, I
use examples from video recording that I recorded in an apartment. There are two participants in
the video and both of them are native Chinese speaker. Two participants know each other very well,
and the conversation topic is about the Animation class that female speaker takes this quarter.
In the conversation, the female speaker omits subjects constantly, and the listener can still
understand what she wants to say and respond to her. For example, the female speaker says:
(1).ењЁдёЉйќўдёЂдёЄеЉІењ°и®І. zai shangmianyigrjingdejiang.
AttopcontinuouslyCtalk
(He) talks continuously at the stage.
This sentence is a typical incomplete sentence in spoken Mandarin Chinese. The speaker wants to
say that the Animation class lacks of the

Free Market In Von Hayek And John Maynard Keynes
Friedrich Von Hayek and John Maynard Keynes were colleagues and economists with opposing
views. Keynes saw the faults of free market in the postwar era and really thought that government
instruction of the economy, all those faults could be fixed. Hayek thought that free market was the
answer. In other words Hayek favored free market and Keynes favored planned economy.
Commanding heights came from Lenin s speech, and those who disapproved of his changes about
the Marxist economics, that as long as the government owns the commanding heights of economy it
is okay to let people have a little bit of their things. (Lenin). Keynes helped the connected

Study on Backward Business Research
While Backward market research may sound oxymoronic it has to be one of the most useful things
that I learnt throughout my time at University and I must thank my old lecturer Ben Healey for
introducing it to me.
Why is Backward market research so good? It is good because is it delivers results, and if market
research cannot deliver results it really is a waste of time and money.
Backward market research was first postulated by Alan R. Andreasen in the 1980′s. Backward
market research turns the traditional approach to research design on its head and increases the
likelihood that the research findings are not only interesting but will lead to actionable conclusions.
Alan R. Andreasen in his article published in the Harvard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

* Sample sizes will be large enough to allow for more precise analysis. * Questions will be worded
as management really wants them. * Management, being closely involved in research design is
more likely to support the implementation phases and take quick action on the research results
when they finally become available.
The Backward market research approach takes time for both managers and researchers. But
determining where you want to go then working backwards to figure out how to get there is likely
to yield more valuable data. This then leads to more fruitful decisions something that we all have a
vested interest in.
I suggest a proven procedure that turns the traditional approach to research design on its head. This
procedure, which stresses close collaboration between researcher and corporate decision makers,
markedly raises the odds that the company will come up with findings that are not only interesting
but will lead to actionable conclusions.
There are only two cases in which research is not expected to be immediately actionable. The first
is when the research is intended to be basic that is, to lay the groundwork for later investigation or
action rather than have any near term impact. The second occasion is when the research is
methodological that is, designed to improve the organization s ability to ask questions in the future.
Except for these two instances, research should be designed to lead to a decision.

Child Custody Interests
Child custody arrangements have evolved over the years from a time when children were once
seen as property of the father. This began to change as society became more focused on the
development of children, understanding the formative years of childhood evolved into adulthood.
Mothers have historically been granted custody in the majority of custody cases as determined in
nineteenth century by the tender year s doctrine. Once the tender years doctrine had been
determined to be in violation of the fourteenth amendment the primary caretaker rule was
developed based on who was the primary caretaker prior to the divorce. With the increase in divorce
rates and the legislation of Uniform Marriageand Divorce Act of 1976 set the standard for the Best
Interests of the Child. The best interest of the child concept moved away from parental rights,
focusing on several factors such as relationships between parent and child, school and home

Child concept, it has been beneficial in respecting parents rights who may have be living in

Taking a Look at Chick-Fill-A
Which came first: the chicken sandwich or the egg sandwich? The world may never know.
However, the world does know the chicken sandwich easily trumps an embryonic hoagie. The
hard working Samuel Truett Cathy rose from the ashes of the Great Depression and established
his own ideas of modern chicken consumption. In 1946, Cathy constructed a small restaurant, the
Dwarf Grill, which was named after how miniscule the space was. Four tables and ten stools
later, Cathy desired an expansion and to revolutionize the world of accelerated dining. He
yearned for a poultry meal that was as elegant as a beef filet (hence the name Chick Fillet ,
however, neither time consuming to craft, nor expensive to purchase (Starrs). The owners of
Goode Brothers Poultry, a business in Atlanta, Jim and Hall Goode, were approached by an
airline to design a boneless, skinless chicken breast that would fit in the plastic trays they used to

Grill neither excelled nor failed, though, it enabled Cathy to further his ambition, essentially a

The State Of The United States Lotteries
In the United States, lotteries are coordinated by the legislature amid the colonial and revolutionary
period to raise assets which would be used to support infrastructure, bridges and schools. Amid the
post civil war, Congress authorized a progression of preventive policies which banned lottery
activities. From 1895 to 1963, each state banned lotteries and vetoed them as a source of
compensation. Consequently, in 1963, the state lottery was reinstated as a government, enterprise
and an origin of income by the state of New Hampshire. In many states the administration runs the
lottery as an imposing business model on a substantial scale for organized gambling. The only legal

The profit from managing the state lottery is measured as a tax on tickets sold for 60% of the public
adults that play (Hyman, 2014, p397).
When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided his clothes among the four of them. They also
took his robe, but it was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. So they said, Rather
than tearing it apart, let s throw dice for it. This fulfilled the Scripture that says, They divided my
garments among themselves and threw dice for my clothing. So that is what they did (John 19:23

Lotteries are in a general sense not the same as other gambling in one essential way: they are
afforded only by the state. The lottery is more than a disputable approach to add a minimal
expenditure to state capitals. Some may argue that lotteries are a tax on the underprivileged, a
tax on individuals who are mathematically challenged, even a tax on the stupid, but most people
don t actually believe the lottery is a tax. According to Henry Fielding Lotteries are taxable, upon

Pros And Cons Of Internet Privacy
Most people think of their privacy as one of their most prized possessions. In the world today we
are finding ourselves having less and less privacy with the increased use of the internet. When
someone goes online their private information can be stolen by hackers and grifters but it can
also be taken by companies like Google and Facebook legally. A bill was passed in Washington
that gave companies even easier access to people s private information. In this composition I
will talk about the legal and ethical parts of it and how this has come to be. Sites people
regularly access like Google and Facebook can be taking their information and profiting off of it.
On March 23, 2017 the senate voted to repeal new online privacylaws. These laws made by the
Obama administration were supposed to give people a right to more privacy online. Tom
Wheeler, the former FCC chairman, said, While everyone was focused on the latest headline
crisis coming out of the White House, Congress was able to roll back privacy. The vote was
swept under the rug so no one had enough time to properly fight this bill from being made which
made many people extremely angry. This bill would ve definitely helped give people more
privacy but large companies fought it. It s plainly obvious that this bill wasn t made to help the
people but to help corporations. With the law repealed big companies were given the go ahead to

Culture Is The Beliefs, Customs, Arts, Acupuncture
Thesis: Culture is the beliefs, customs, arts, ect. of a particular society, group, place or time.
(Webster Online Dictionary) Cuba is rich and full of cultural backgrounds that influence its
decision making for present and future regional affairs. Political parties as well as celebrity affairs
heavily influence today s society.
Political Influence President Raul Castro of Cuba met with President Obama of the United States at
the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The two leaders spoke of the importance of
normalization between both countries and how it can benefit future economical businesses.
President Obama made it clear that the embargo for trade is going to change to a hassle free trade
between the two countries and in support of human rights in Cuba. Cuba has opened up their
borders for U.S companies, allowing U.S investors to physically step foot on country for travel and
open up business in Cuba. In August, the American Flag rose over the U.S Embassy in Cuba for

The computer was first brought into existence in the late...
The computer was first brought into existence in the late 1930 s using vacuum tubes to create the
sounds that are found in motion pictures today and since then; there has been a non stop growth in
the advancement of our technology and society. Growth can sometimes flourish so fast that it can
be hard to keep track of especially in the areas that it may be easily overlooked until it comes to be
necessary, such as the ethics. This new type of technological development brings ethical concerns
upon us, just how it brought a cultural awakening upon society. For every technological glass
ceiling we have broken through comes an endless cascading effect of technical development in any
of the other areas. When scientists first discovered the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And what are the ethics that go with computer use in our society today? There are many
inquiries that arise when looking at the relationship that exists between computers and ethics.
But before we can look at the role computers have with ethics, we first need to understand why it
is extremely significant to acknowledge this connection, along with the possible effects that
may come about it if this relationship is ignored or forgotten. Let s take a look at a unique
instance which involves computers and their association with ethics and social media,
something almost everyone is a part of today. This case revolves around a recent phone app,
called Tinder, which has become popular for both males and females in college campuses. The
app allows males and females to log on through their Facebook accounts, which allows for them
to share their pictures, age, and mutual friends with others around them. Then once one is
registered on the app, a picture of the other sex pops up and they either swipe away or like it, in
which it then matches them up with that other person. So essentially this app is dating app for
young college students, where males and females have the potential to stalk and talk to others of
the opposite sex that live a certain radius from them, and maybe possibly actually meet and date
(very unlikely). Tinder is very similar to other dating apps, however it makes it a lot less
complicated for college students so that they are easily able

The Treaty Of Paris And Germany Essay
It was 1945 when the treaty to officially end the second world war was signed but that was just
the beginning. Europe was still in ruin. Even though Adolf Hitler was dead his army could still
be felt across the continent. It was now time to rebuilt. This wasn t just the rebuilding of cities
and lives, it was the rebuilding of order. Hitler had tipped the delicate scale of order and balance
and the scale had to be fixed. This fix came in the form of the Treaty of Paris (1951) which was
also known as the European Coal and Steel Community(ECSC) Treaty. The original purpose of this
treaty wasn t to unify Europebut in a few years that was its effect.
The ECSC Treaty s original purpose was to improve the economies that suffered during the war.
This idea was born from the thinking that France and Germany s vast steel and coal resources
could be used to help other countries. France and Germany agreed to participate because through
this treaty they believe they could help start the healing process that Europe so desperately needed.
There was also hope that European integration would stem from this treaty. The founding countries
of this community were France, West Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. It was the
foreign minister of France that proposed common high authority so other European countries
could participate if they wished. Changes were made and the treaty was signed July 23, 1952.
This treaty had a validity period of 50 years which meant it expired on July

Reasons For The Civil Rights Movement
When did the Civil Rights Movement begin in earnest in Buffalo? The Civil Rights Movement In
Buffalo was weak and many people were quiet and conservative. It was less a Movement than a
group of scattered individuals, primarily black and Jewish. This Civil Rights Movement happened
in the late 1960 s and early 1970 s. Some people believed that this movement began in Western New
York. African Americans faced many social problems during this time period, which demonstrated
the significance of organizing the black community on the neighborhood level. During that time
African Americans were mistreated and fought for their equality. Who was involved in the civil

The Niagara Movement attempted to bring about legal change, addressing the issues of crime,
economics, religion, health, and education. The Movement stood apart from other black
organizations at the time because of its powerful, unequivocal demand for equal rights. The
Niagara Movement forcefully demanded equal economic and educational opportunity as well as
the vote for black men and women. Some people chose to stay out of the civil rights movement in
Buffalo because of the violence involved and fear of being killed. During that period of time you
had people who were being murdered, homes being bombed, churches being bombed and there was
a sense that evil would prevail, said William Bell, Birmingham s current mayor. What organizations
were active in the Civil Rights Movement in Buffalo? The Civil Rights Movement began with the
Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955, and from its inception to its end during the late 1960s, several
organizations worked together to create change in United States society. The Student Nonviolent
Coordinating Committee was established in April 1960 at Shaw University. Throughout the civil

Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose Essay
Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose The play Twelve Angry Men , By Reginald Rose, is a play
about 12 jurors that in an uncomfortable room have to discuss a life and death case about a boy
that is accused or killing his father. the jurors do not really know eachother to talk to and wish they
were anywhere but in that juryroom. Every juror has a different emotional pattern that makes the
play interesting. In my opinion there were 3 main jurors in the jury room: Juror 8, Juror 3 and
Juror 9. Juror 8 is important because he is smart, brave, and fair. Juror 3 was important because he
was the antagonist, he was mean, and he was intolerant. Juror 9 was important because he wasn t

important juror in the jury room. Juror 3 was the antagonist. He was the main enemy of Juror 8

mean. He wanted everyone to think the way he did, and lost his temper whenever they didn t. In

Juror 9 was also smart. He made a reasonable doubt by saying that the old man might of lied to get

Argumentative Essay On Why Dogs Are Pets
Dogs are pets but they are still animals, and animals have instincts and do not always understand
what is going on around them the way we do, and sometimes they act out in ways that are
inappropriate to us. Biting is one of those acts. Dogs bite for many reasons, but those reasons
usually fall into two large categories: aggression and protection. Aggression includes dominance,
defense, fear, predatory, pain, punishment, and redirected. Aggression can happen when the dogis
confused as to who is the boss, or when startled by a person, or when the dog sees something small

Pet owners can take their dog to the veterinarian and have a checkup to make sure there are no
medical reasons for aggression. They should also work with professional trainers to learn
techniques to help deal with their dog s aggression. Owners should also kennel train a dog, keep
it in a fenced yard, hang signs, and always keep the dog on a leash when out in public are all
great tips. Spaying or neutering is also another example to help combat aggression, because
intact animals are always more likely to be aggressive than those who have been fixed. People in
their own community should be aware of their surroundings especially with houses with dogs or
dogs on the loose. According to the Humane Society of the United States (2010), people should
resist the impulse to scream and run away when approached by a loose dog. They should remain
motionless, hands at their sides, and avoid eye contact with the dog. Once the dog has lost
interest, the person should slowly back away until the dog is out of sight. Should the dog attack,
give him your jacket, purse, bicycle, or anything else that you can put between yourself and the

The Bombay Plan And Its Predecessor Attempts
2.2The Bombay Plan and its Predecessor Attempts
The Bombay Plan had the most important share in the establishment of an independent economic
policy in the Post colonial Period. India earned its independence from Great Britain in 1947 and
starting with this date, it mainly focused on restoration of the economy via centralization. For
centralization process, an economic model that was inspired by Soviet Union called Five Year Plan
was developed and was accepted by the Indian the Government in 1952. (Lokanathan, 1945).
Another part of the Five Year Plan was to intensify irrigation infrastructure such as watering systems
for agricultural activities, which preserved the remarkable majority of Indian economy.
Furthermore, in the context of this plan; scientific investigations, including space and nuclear
programmes were additional fields that India paid attention similar to the Soviet Union.
Nonetheless; economy of India did not correspond all these attempts immediately because of
previous excessive investments in defense industry that aimed to enhance resistance to Colonial
Rule. The main problems were inadequacy in generation of asset and qualified people along
with required improved facilities. Due to these scarcities of sources; for 28 years (1951 1979)
Indian economy yielded 3% annual average increase and this growth rate reflected as fixed low
charges during all this period. Given the returns of the Five Year Plan; industrial and agricultural
activities yielded 4.5%

Slavery In The Book Of Night Women By Marlon James
The Book of Night Women Slavery is a structure which involves a vast amount of labor without
getting compensate for it. They do not have any freedom of speech to get up and leave because
they are purchase and resold like they are inhuman. It is well known that slavery was a time of
cruelty where a lot of harsh and violence took place. During slavery, both genders were faced with
trial and tribulations depending on sex. For example, women were constantly coming across sexual
harassment and abuse, while the men were tortured to death. In the book of night women, Marlon
James illustrate gender and race by depicting the superiority and the privilege that whites had over
the slaves. This is what one could imagine was happening during slavery.
In the book of night women, James uses vivid imagery to depict the gender role. You can t keep

out her cunt. Then we goin kill her. Then we goin fuck her again. Or we just goin deal wid her
the way massa and maroon deal with you. Me papa tell me bout you. (39) . This quote shows
how slave women did not have any value and what they went through during the time of slavery.

women were treated differently. They were taking advantage of and were treated without respect,
were often used as sex slaves, maids and for breeding. This quote also shows how the

Opposing Viewpoints
There is no doubt that people s viewpoints has played a pivotal role in all societies. The desire for

of viewpoint on relationships between people in whole society. However, this issue has recently
engendered many controversies among academicians. Some people may hold this viewpoint that if
we can t say anything nice about someone, then we should not say anything about this person.
However, others have an opposite perspective and believe that we should say both nice and bad
things about other people. Nevertheless, many remain neutral, sharing the view that a myriad of
factors should be taken into consideration so as to be able to prove which belief is closer to the
reality. I am of the opinion that the positive viewpoint about someone seems more valuable for
people than negative viewpoints about them; not only does it make to find and keep strong
relationships, but also it is more impressive. In the following paragraphs, I will try to pinpoint the

Divergent includes all aspects of a dystopian novel. Some of these are the illusion of a utopia,
constant surveillance, and fear of the outside world. According to Kyle Jannak Huang; In the
novel Divergent, the society is split into five different factions. At first, it seems like the five
factions can all live together peacefully in a perfect society. Each faction has a role in society.
Eventually, factions disagree and they go to war, showing that the society is not really a perfect
one. [4] Demonstrating the characteristic of the unrealistic utopia that is shown to the reader in the
first chapters.
Hunger Games is another dystopian novel in which we see the abuse of power the government has
over its people. Here we see how the government, the Capitol, is a completely totalitarian one. It
portrays the way that ordinary people are being dehumanized in this made up world. This
dehumanization is being caused by the dictatorship led by President Snow. In that dictatorship we

he went away from flying and he became and environmentalist and a wildlife preservationist. He

I believe. A hero can mean many different things. Many people can look at someone and say that
man is a villain or the man is a hero because they don t have the whole story and they just jump
on the bandwagon. Lindberg was a hero for aviation. He may of not been a US hero but that was
not the most important thing to him. His goal was always to advance aviation and to make it
more popular. So by that mean he was truly a hero for Aviation. He helped put aviation on the map
and he always tried to push the limits. Many believed he was a villain because he fled the US and
lived in a foreign country. Several reasons people believed he was a villain were because he toured
Nazi air craft, and saw their facilities. He was also awarded a medal from the Nazis for his

Feminism Throughout The Decades
Fight for Your Rights: Feminism Throughout the Decades
Women have historically had a rocky relationship with governmental, cultural, religious, and social
rights. The Women s Rights movement has been in effect since approximately 1792, with the
publication of the first feminist work, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman
, by British writer Mary
Wollstonecraft ( Women s Rights Movement ). While social changes have occurred and more
progressive laws have been put into place throughout the years, there is still not equality between
the sexes. Additionally, genderroles in different countries differ greatly. The purpose of this paper
is to highlight the major causes and concerns of the Women s Rights movements throughout the
decades, as well as denote the differences between more progressive societies and their less
accepting counterparts.
There have been many causes that lead to the Women s Rights movement. Though the focus of
these movements have progressed with time and brought about different waves, the primary cause
that initiated the need for the Women s Rights movement was simply the fact that women were
historically considered second class citizens. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hypervisibility And Invisibility Of The Black Body Essay
Hypervisibility and Invisibility of the Black Body in Citizen Citizen, written by Claudia
Rankine in 2014, narrates testimonies of systematic racism and every day micro aggressions
through poems, essays, scripts and images. Rankine documents the racist encounters through the
second person point of view for the reader to feel and understand the effects racism has on the
body and mind. This paper will examine hypervisibility and invisibility of the black body
embedded in the novel because of decades of racism. Rankine emphasizes the sensory emotions
and feelings of the black body as a response to America s reluctance to recognize and empathize
with black men and women. Citizen s opening poem sets the tone for reflection. She writes when
you are alone and too tired even to turn on any devices, you let yourself linger a past stacked
among your pillows, a self awareness of the events that will arise in the rest of the text (Rankine
5). Throughout the text, the subject in each testimony manifests a sense of consciousness towards
invisibility of his or her body. In an example of microaggression, the black woman details an
incident in a which a white girl cheats off her test and takes the initiative in thanking [the woman]
for letting her cheat and feels better cheating from an almost white person (Rankine 5). She erases
the blackness of the woman to justify her actions, a common endeavor in white America s

Everyday Life
Everyday life can be a difficult and amorphous concept to grapple with. This essay will consider
the various aspects of Scott s definition of what Everyday life is and to what extent I agree with
it. In its most simplistic and stripped down form, Scott s suggests that it s a study of people
doing little things in local places or more succinctly the wider picture (Scott, 2009, p1).
Everyday life can also be viewed as a person seeking solace in the familiarity of repetitive and
rhythmic routines (Scott, 2009). Scott s final assertion is that everyday life exists in the realm of a
person s individual and private choices, which have a bearing on that person s patterns of behaviour
(Scott, 2009). Scott specifically touches on seven... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scott also makes the point that a person s so called private life, has an impact on everyday life
and should be studied to find linkages in a broader sense, on larger public issue s (Scott, 2009).
The distinction which Scott makes here and I agree with, is that mundane things people do in
the privacy of their own homes, while obviously having no social connotations, are still
reflective upon that person s everyday life (Scott, 2009). This is reflected by Moran, perhaps
spuriously as; everyone coming home after work, nuking a TV dinner, brainlessly watching the
idiot box and tucking themselves into bed (Moran, 2008). Maybe a more scandalous example is
that of sexual betrayal s, and what can be a rapid expansion from a micro issue in a person s
private life to a broader issue that impacts on families and broader society (Bennett, 1994).
Jacobsen briefly touches on this in support of Scott, by describing everyday life in terms of
having; a place, space, location, domain connotation, a temporal dimension i.e. relating to time and
as having an attitude, mentality or state of consciousness , so when deconstructed it speaks to
where everyday life happens, with what regularity and the scrutinization that takes places
(Jacobsen, 2009, p14). To conclude, I premised this essay on everyday life being an almost
intangible concept, in Scott s words

Examples Of Racism In Huckleberry Finn
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is not a racist novel, nor is Mark Twain a racist author. As
Leopold Von Ranke said, You have reckoned that history ought to judge the past and to instruct
the contemporary world as to the future. The present attempt does not yield to that high office.
It will merely tell how it really was . The past had different norms and etiquette than today, and
Twain was merely putting the reader into the perspective of those times. One can t judge the
past and judge Twain s use of the word because in those days, the word was accepted, and not
exactly racist . The novel was a satire on slavery and racism, that, as well as raising social
awareness, was also one of the best American novels of all time. Huckleberry Finn... Show more

In order to put the reader into the perspective of the past and teach them how blacks used to be
treated, he had to use intense language and make harsh comments. Today, people have
exceptional knowledge and have been introduced to racism and what is considered wrong to
mention . So the readers of Huck Finn today jump to the conclusion that Twain is racist because
the simplest [things] cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded
that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him (Leo Tolstoy).
People already have a strong sense as to what racism consists of, so Twain comes off as a racist
right away by using remarks that people have been taught their entire life are racial
remarks.Twain introduced Jim as a comical, uneducated runaway slave, which most people took
offense to. The silly behavior of Jim is common for characters in historical satires, which is most
likely the reason for Twain s choice of Jim s appearance to the audience. Jim is described to the
readers as [trustworthy] to the point of gullibility. These qualities are not altered during the
course of the novel; instead, they are fleshed out and prove to be positives instead of negatives
(CliffNotes). Even though Twain depicted Jim as gullible, it shared the trustworthy and friendship
Jim had in Huck. It proved later in the book as a helpful tool, and played a key part in Jim s

different areas by different states/dynasties to protect different territorial borders. It stretches about
1,500 miles from Bo Hai off the Yellow Sea in the East to the Gansuprovince in the West and it
also took over 10 years to build. (Kelly). The wall was very long it reached over 4 places. The
wall dates from the Ming dynasty (1368 1644) and runs for some 5,500 miles east to west from
Mount Hu near Dandong, southeastern Liaoning province, to Jiayu Pass west of Jiuquan,
northwestern Gansu province ( Great Wall of China). It is believed to be the largest graveyard in
history because bones of the workers that died during construction were buried along with the
material to build the wall. The wall served to mark the boundary between the agricultural
civilization of China and the civilization of the nomadic tribes of the north and northwest (
Architecture ). The Great Wall of China was very important especially the architecture, why did

Social Media Integration Theory Of Isra Garcia (2010)
Social Media Integration Theory of Isra Garcia (2010)
According to Isra Garcia (2010), The exposure, feedback, engagement , connection and sharing that
Social Media platforms provides, creates a major changes for the traditional communication
understanding. The flow of communication is no longer considered as a one way street in which
audience received messages through the I communicate you receive mantra. Rather, Social Media
integration is seen as an interactive process in which there is more than two people communicating
to each other at the same time that enables same level information exchange among the users.
Social bookmarking sites such as blogs or web pages place content into an active eco system that
allows social media interaction such as Twitter or Facebook. This content is then partaked and
spread virally through the interaction made on the social media eco system. This refers to people
being connected to people through common groups, associations, and interests. Since this becomes
the six degrees of separation this interaction causes the viral effect. This social media platform
allows the interaction and the ability for the model to flow and become organic. Then, the social
networking platforms enable the connection with the public through the engagement approach

Black Men and Public Space
Cesar Augusto Gonzalez Professor Hargett English 1101 October 14, 2010 Vicious Cycle
Throughout history, literature has served as a way of expression. Human beings have poured
out their feelings onto paper, as long as there have been people interested in them. Common
themes have risen through the ages, such as the contrast between light and dark. Darkness is
known for its negative undertone. In earlier times, we saw darkness as an interpretation of evil;
likewise, light represented God and all good. From literature we, as a society, have built what
later became social rules, giving rise to things such as prejudice. In Brent Staples essay Black Men
and Public Space this is clearly shown by the authors own experiences of antipathy... Show more

Fear is accompanied by a need for survival. Some animals grow being dominant, creating fear to
control. Other just decide to hide hoping not to be involved into precarious situations. In Black
Men and Public Space , Staples describes, I chose, perhaps unconsciously, to remain a shadow
timid, but a survivor (568). Staples explain that he took the smaller animal path and tries to
remain un recognizable in order for him to have a safer journey around avoiding confrontation.
Is easier to hide that to fight but in the long run that easiness brings other problems, where self
blame can evolve to depression and self depreciation. It comes a time in every man s life when
he has to choose between himself and society. When he has to decide whether to stand on his
own or simply hide his true self in order to escape confrontation, arguments and possible
rejection. Most people have a tendency to go with the flow be just like everyone else. Staple
writes, I now take precautions to make myself less threatening (568). This quote describes the
idea previously expressed. He chooses to alter his image to make his journey safer. In order to add
this newer safer self, he must subtract what he was before, losing his identity. In Staples essay
Black Men and Public Space , big issues are explored and described in a way that we can relate to

Emergence: Huey Newton and Bobby Seale met in 1961 while fellow students at Oakland
California s, Merritt College. Newton and Seale met while attending a Merritt College rally to
protest the U.S. Blockade of Cuba. Additionally, they were both activist members of the Donald

Seale and Huey Newton pooled their money from work and founded the Black Panthers Party in
an Oakland California Storefront. As men of action and prompted by their disillusionment with
the Capitalist Philosophy of Merritt colleges African American Student Association founder
Donald Ward, Newton and Seale subsequently joined the SSAC under Ernie Allen which was a
front for the (RAM) the Revolutionary Action Movement where they learned to be
revolutionaries. The 1966 San Francisco Police shooting and murder of an unarmed black teen,
the 1966 assassination of Nation of Islam Spokesperson Malcolm X, the emerging Black Power
Movement, and the repressive actions of the Police during the 1966 Watts Rebellion were pivotal
in the emerge of the BPP as they too embraced the Black Power Movement. The Watts Rebellion
embraced the black power movement and was precipitated due to Black Peoples rage over ghetto
conditions, a chafing against police brutality and the blatant murder of Black men by the Police, as
well as the capitalist exploitation and oppression. Urban Communities in the Northern had also

Groupon, By Andrew Mason Essay
Groupon was founded on November 2008 in Delaware. It took the framework of The Point ,
which was launched a year earlier as a Do good Doer enterprise by Andrew Mason, CEO, and
first funded by Eric Lefkofsky, an entrepreneur. The core idea of Groupon is It s One deal a day,
that the deal doesn t go into effect until enough people buy the voucher, and that the vouchers
should be for local businesses. Andrew Mason decided the daily emails should have funny copy. It
focused on group buying power and helping people find interesting things to do in their city.
Groupon s concept immediately took off and became an overnight successful company.
Here is how it works: A business offers a deep discount for its good/service, for example, a
restaurant offered $40 value meals for the price of $20 via Groupon. The customer buys the
voucher on Groupon for $20, and then later redeems it at the restaurant at the value of $40.
Groupon makes money by charging a marketing fee for advertising and promoting their offers. In
most cases, that fee is a percentage of the revenue generated by selling on Groupon, normally
about 30 50% commission. Local business owners starting to sign up as part of their marketing
strategy and spread the words to other locals. By the end of 2008, Groupon had around 300
employees and grew to more than 10,000 employees today. Groupon is a pioneer and leader in

Anarchy vs. Autocracy
Anarchy v. Autocracy
Liberty vs. Security; both are seemingly broad terms, but due to current events, circumstances have
occured resulting in an infringement on liberty because of issues regarding national security thus,
creating problems for citizens and politicians alike. Liberty is best defined as a concept that
identifies the condition in which an individual has the right to act according to his/her free will[1].
Security is the degree of protection from danger, loss, or criminals[2]. The problem lies in that
there are many different views on what the government s role on the proper balance between the
two should be. The proper balance between liberty and security is an equilibrium unless in specific
events or time periods where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In certain events, extreme security is needed, and should be completely justified. In order to
establish what is right or wrong without corruption, the public should have the final say on what
needs to happen because they are ultimately the ones who will be affected by these new
enforcements. Similar to presidential elections, a national vote should happen during a time of
peace, on what precautions the government needs to take during these stressful time periods. The
purpose of the election is to get an adequate sample of what the citizens believe their ratio of
security to liberty is. A difference would be the removal of the Electoral College. Instead of
having the views censored by elected officials, it needs to be the raw wishes of the population.
The significance of having it during peace time would be that during emergencies, people get
frantic and desperate. Decisions would inevitably be clouded by fear and overall craziness. Ben
Franklin once said that, Passion never governs wisely, and this certainly holds true to a person s
reaction during war or difficult moments. However, the government will react to what the people
want, and will come up with laws or actions that would be beneficial to our society. For example,
Document G is a political cartoon that is about the US Patriot Act. In it, Clay Bennett has

Who has access to your tax data?
Nikki Davis
Abstract
In this tax season, when billions of dollars and tons of personal information is relayed to and from
the government, it s more than disconcerting to hear that the Internal Revenue Service is still
struggling to keep private information secure.
The purpose of my study is to improve the safeguard of taxpayers data at the Internal Revenue
Service. Due to the fact that firewalls are in place and transaction monitoring is also in place; yet,
taxpayers data is still being exploited. It seems that the problem lies in the character of some of the
employees. It is not such much that the background checks are not in depth, they are not ... Show

MEMPHIS An Internal Revenue Service employee in Memphis has been indicted on charges of
filing false tax returns and stealing data from the agency. The U.S. attorney s office said in a
news release today that Farrah Jones of Memphis, who was hired as a tax examining technician in
2001, used the data for returns she filed for herself and others. Prosecutors said Jones obtained
dependent information from IRS files and used the data on tax returns she prepared, knowing that
the taxpayers were not entitled to claim these dependents. This allegedly occurred for a year
ending in February 2007. She was arrested Thursday and released on $5,000 bond.
Another issue is browsing where taxpayer data is researched for personal purposes i.e. revenge
or other actions. UNAX is the code of conduct concerning unauthorized access. There are many
UNAX violations case pending today. One case in particular is about s former employee who
looked up data on celebrities and his neighbor just for the sake of doing it.
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) An IRS employee was sentenced Wednesday to three years
probation for taking a look at the tax files of almost 200 people, including famous actors, local
sports celebrities, and his own next door neighbor.
John Snyder, a 56 year old tax agent in Covington, Ky., also must pay $1,000 and complete 60
hours of community service for sneaking a peek at the records of actors including Kevin Bacon,

most of the equipment are mechanical controlled systems, alongside with electronics they ll consist
of actuators, mechanisms, motors, valves and other mechanical parts . So essential substances can
be lubrication to ensure seamless and flawless functionality to coating the equipment to avoid rust
or corrosions depending on what products are being produced.

Uncertainty in Manufacturing:
What does this mean? Uncertainty in manufacturing is when the fate of a company or a product
is not certain. This can be due to the reputation the company has or the product produced has
failed to gain popularity. Quality of the product is vital, consumers expect to buy products with
the intention that it will be reliable. For an example the games console Atari Jaguar which was
released in the early 1990 s. Featuring a 64 bit system it was very powerful for its time, and was
significantly cheaper then rivals. So to the average person you d think this would have been a
huge success. However in the marketing campaigns the slogan Do The Maths was used as a
sales tactic, unfortunately this lead to potential customers being made redundant, this was seen
as a cheeky ploy on Atari s part. The design was not ergonomic, the control pad was simply too
big and consisted of loads of buttons which rendered the feel of the pad uncomfortable.
Furthermore a very small selections of game were made to run on Atari s firmware, the console
also didn t have a great software to run in the first place. Unfortunately the console was a failure
and also led to Atari s demise. So by looking at that example, that was believed to be a huge
success but since little

Jane Goodall Personal Statement
In the third grade, my life was altered when I read an abbreviated biography about Jane Goodall
the primatologist. I have always had a passion for discovering the world around me, specifically
the animals and environment, but Goodall elevated my own desire for exploration to a new
level. I was struck by a young female scientist pursuing her dreams in the field of biology and the
significant impact she had in the scientific world. Jane Goodall managed to bring passion and
emotion to her observations of chimpanzees at a time when observational science was extremely
concerned about remaining objective. She silently proved every critic of hers wrong by showing
the world that she was not too young, too inexperienced, or too female to change the... Show more

The evolution of egg laying mammals such as the platypus and the echidna has only occurred in
Australia and thus can only be studied firsthand in Australia. I am hoping that this Study Abroad
program in Perth, Australia will broaden my horizons of evolutionary study through a research
opportunity as well as unique ecological experiences that would allow me to discover an enticing
and new application for my interest. The networking opportunities will be extremely beneficial,
both as possible connections and as a learning opportunity. The University of Western Australia
has a Centre for Evolutionary Biology with several researchers whose research projects I would
love to be a part of. For example, Associate Professor Cyril Grueter is pursuing the evolutionary
basis of how different primate social groups interact with each other, and Dr. Stephania King
behavioral biologist who is investigating the evolution of communication in bottlenose dolphins. It
would be a life changing opportunity to work with and learn from either of these researchers, as I
plan on pursuing a research opportunity while I am abroad in Australia. The diversity of animals
and habitats Australia offers provide a unique opportunity that I am excited to interact with in any
capacity, including exploring its natural wonders in all of the national parks near

  • 2. The Love Of My Life Analysis In T. Coraghessan Boyle s story The Love of My Life, it centers around the teenage relationship of Jeremy and China who claim to be in love with one another and nothing else matters to them. Their relationship; however, is centered around what a relationship is like in movies and based of the physical attraction to each other as well as being naive to what real loveis as this is their first real relationship with a significant other. The relationship between the two is great until they encounter their first real obstacle in the relationship when China becomes pregnant. The egocentric nature of both characters takes over and there begins to be cracks within the relationship. Now they face the reality of becoming parents and they blame... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... China s negative outlook on teen pregnancy can be concluded to the individuals around her as why she believes what she does. Parents affect their children s views on many topics concerning various aspects, and it seems as if China s parents have created a negative outlook on teenage pregnancy. China says, I will never be like those breeders that bring their puffed up squalling little red faced babies to class (Boyle 558). Her negative outlook has obviously been skewed as she believes teens become pregnant based off of their own choice and not the product of chance. She does not seem to understand that all the right steps can be taken to avoid pregnancy when having sex, but still the woman can become pregnant. Her take on this subject can be attributed to believing the views of her privileged community, families who have never been affected by teen pregnancy, and therefore, can not give an accurate representation of their lives or how teen pregnancy may have helped their life for the better. The quote shows her naive nature as the education on teen pregnancy does not seem evident, but instead the words of her parents and those unaffected by teen pregnancy and taken in and believed. Her view on pregnancy, of course, can be attributed to why she never told her parents or anyone that she was pregnant. Now she appears as a hypocrite as she is the one who is a ... These goals are genuinely made to be for the interest of the greater good, and the majority of people. For example, the policy for red light cameras in Rochester was enacted to help reduce the accident rates from people running red lights. Even though this causes people to pay fees for getting caught by the cameras, the greater good is helped because there are less traffic accidents. Public policyhelps steer the country in the ways that our great minds think would be the best direction for the majority. a.Discussed in class were 6 models of policy making. • 8. Media And Gender Roles In The Media At a young age, children begin to comprehend gender roles, which are a set of societal norms that determine what is considered acceptable, desirable and appropriate based on an individual s sex. We obtain these gender associated roles from various places and one dominant source with direct influence is the media. Media plays a critical role in influencing genderroles through impacting the career choices we make, the behavioral patterns we implement in our lives and the sexual stereotypes we have been conditioned to accept. In the first place, society has grown to associate certain occupations with a particular gender. One reason this occurs is as a result of mass media displaying a certain gender occupying a particular job position more than the other genders. Females are often displayed on television, magazines and internet sources as occupying positions such as housewives, nurses, receptionists and teachers. On the other hand, males are portrayed in roles such as the family s breadwinner, doctors and principles. For example, in the show I Love Lucy , Lucy is a housewife looking to escape her domesticated lifestyle. In the process of doing so her ventures quickly turn to antics, leaving husband Ricky, who is the family s breadwinner, to correct the mess she creates (Rosie 357). Similarly, in another show called Our Miss Brooks , Miss Brooks is a teacher who battles with a bossy school principal, Mr. Conklin. These two sitcoms present females in positions with less ... • 9. Ellipsis Of Subjects And Objects In Mandarin Chinese Ellipsis of Subjects and Objects in Mandarin Chinese Mandarin Chinese as one of the unique languages in the world has many significant features, and one of them is ellipsis of subjects and objects. In English, a complete sentence consists of at least three basic elements which are a subject, an object, and a verb. However, compare with English, Mandarin Chinese does not have strict grammatical rules to form a complete sentence because people can leave out subjects or objects when they talk to each other. Although there are many sentences in Mandarin Chinese lack of subjects or objects, the sentences are still clear and grammatically correct. Therefore, can we conclude that subjects and objects are not necessary for spoken Mandarin Chinese? In other words, when can a speaker omit the subject or the object in Mandarin Chinese? Ellipsis of subjects also occurs in spoken English, but it normally in a set phrase. For example, people often say see you tomorrow rather than I will see you tomorrow. Moreover, due to grammatical requirement, not every sentence in English can omit the subject. Although sometimes the sentence is still understandable without the subject, the meaning will become ambiguous. Compare with English, ellipsis of subjects is more common in spoken Mandarin Chinese. Unlike English, it does not have any grammatical restriction and can be used in any sentence. Therefore, In order to have a better understanding of ellipsis of subjects and objects in Mandarin Chinese, I use examples from video recording that I recorded in an apartment. There are two participants in the video and both of them are native Chinese speaker. Two participants know each other very well, and the conversation topic is about the Animation class that female speaker takes this quarter. In the conversation, the female speaker omits subjects constantly, and the listener can still understand what she wants to say and respond to her. For example, the female speaker says: (1).ењЁдёЉйќўдёЂдёЄеЉІењ°и®І. zai shangmianyigrjingdejiang. AttopcontinuouslyCtalk (He) talks continuously at the stage. • 11. Study on Backward Business Research While Backward market research may sound oxymoronic it has to be one of the most useful things that I learnt throughout my time at University and I must thank my old lecturer Ben Healey for introducing it to me. Why is Backward market research so good? It is good because is it delivers results, and if market research cannot deliver results it really is a waste of time and money. Backward market research was first postulated by Alan R. Andreasen in the 1980′s. Backward market research turns the traditional approach to research design on its head and increases the likelihood that the research findings are not only interesting but will lead to actionable conclusions. Alan R. Andreasen in his article published in the Harvard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * Sample sizes will be large enough to allow for more precise analysis. * Questions will be worded as management really wants them. * Management, being closely involved in research design is more likely to support the implementation phases and take quick action on the research results when they finally become available. The Backward market research approach takes time for both managers and researchers. But determining where you want to go then working backwards to figure out how to get there is likely to yield more valuable data. This then leads to more fruitful decisions something that we all have a vested interest in. I suggest a proven procedure that turns the traditional approach to research design on its head. This procedure, which stresses close collaboration between researcher and corporate decision makers, markedly raises the odds that the company will come up with findings that are not only interesting but will lead to actionable conclusions. There are only two cases in which research is not expected to be immediately actionable. The first is when the research is intended to be basic that is, to lay the groundwork for later investigation or action rather than have any near term impact. The second occasion is when the research is methodological that is, designed to improve the organization s ability to ask questions in the future. Except for these two instances, research should be designed to lead to a decision. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Child Custody Interests Child custody arrangements have evolved over the years from a time when children were once seen as property of the father. This began to change as society became more focused on the development of children, understanding the formative years of childhood evolved into adulthood. Mothers have historically been granted custody in the majority of custody cases as determined in nineteenth century by the tender year s doctrine. Once the tender years doctrine had been determined to be in violation of the fourteenth amendment the primary caretaker rule was developed based on who was the primary caretaker prior to the divorce. With the increase in divorce rates and the legislation of Uniform Marriageand Divorce Act of 1976 set the standard for the Best Interests of the Child. The best interest of the child concept moved away from parental rights, focusing on several factors such as relationships between parent and child, school and home adjustments, mental and physical wellbeing of parents, and wishes of both parents.... The hard working Samuel Truett Cathy rose from the ashes of the Great Depression and established his own ideas of modern chicken consumption. In 1946, Cathy constructed a small restaurant, the Dwarf Grill, which was named after how miniscule the space was. Four tables and ten stools later, Cathy desired an expansion and to revolutionize the world of accelerated dining. He yearned for a poultry meal that was as elegant as a beef filet (hence the name Chick Fillet , however, neither time consuming to craft, nor expensive to purchase (Starrs). The owners of Goode Brothers Poultry, a business in Atlanta, Jim and Hall Goode, were approached by an airline to design a boneless, skinless chicken breast that would fit in the plastic trays they used to serve meals on planes. After accomplishing such an innovating tax, the Goode s had remaining pieces of chicken; that is where Samuel Truett Cathy enters in this poultry fairytale. Cathy s Dwarf Grill neither excelled nor failed, though, it enabled Cathy to further his ambition, essentially a springboard to success. However, the business itself lacked potential to grow. The State Of The United States Lotteries In the United States, lotteries are coordinated by the legislature amid the colonial and revolutionary period to raise assets which would be used to support infrastructure, bridges and schools. Amid the post civil war, Congress authorized a progression of preventive policies which banned lottery activities. From 1895 to 1963, each state banned lotteries and vetoed them as a source of compensation. Consequently, in 1963, the state lottery was reinstated as a government, enterprise and an origin of income by the state of New Hampshire. Sites people regularly access like Google and Facebook can be taking their information and profiting off of it. On March 23, 2017 the senate voted to repeal new online privacylaws. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the major causes and concerns of the Women s Rights movements throughout the decades, as well as denote the differences between more progressive societies and their less accepting counterparts. There have been many causes that lead to the Women s Rights movement. • 37. Hypervisibility And Invisibility Of The Black Body Essay Hypervisibility and Invisibility of the Black Body in Citizen Citizen, written by Claudia Rankine in 2014, narrates testimonies of systematic racism and every day micro aggressions through poems, essays, scripts and images. Rankine documents the racist encounters through the second person point of view for the reader to feel and understand the effects racism has on the body and mind. This paper will examine hypervisibility and invisibility of the black body embedded in the novel because of decades of racism. Rankine emphasizes the sensory emotions and feelings of the black body as a response to America s reluctance to recognize and empathize with black men and women. Citizen s opening poem sets the tone for reflection. She writes when you are alone and too tired even to turn on any devices, you let yourself linger a past stacked among your pillows, a self awareness of the events that will arise in the rest of the text (Rankine 5). Throughout the text, the subject in each testimony manifests a sense of consciousness towards invisibility of his or her body. In an example of microaggression, the black woman details an incident in a which a white girl cheats off her test and takes the initiative in thanking [the woman] for letting her cheat and feels better cheating from an almost white person (Rankine 5). She erases the blackness of the woman to justify her actions, a common endeavor in white America s exploitation of the black body. This endeavor is evident of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Everyday Life Everyday life can be a difficult and amorphous concept to grapple with. This essay will consider the various aspects of Scott s definition of what Everyday life is and to what extent I agree with it. In its most simplistic and stripped down form, Scott s suggests that it s a study of people doing little things in local places or more succinctly the wider picture (Scott, 2009, p1). Everyday life can also be viewed as a person seeking solace in the familiarity of repetitive and rhythmic routines (Scott, 2009). Scott s final assertion is that everyday life exists in the realm of a person s individual and private choices, which have a bearing on that person s patterns of behaviour (Scott, 2009). Scott specifically touches on seven... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scott also makes the point that a person s so called private life, has an impact on everyday life and should be studied to find linkages in a broader sense, on larger public issue s (Scott, 2009). The distinction which Scott makes here and I agree with, is that mundane things people do in the privacy of their own homes, while obviously having no social connotations, are still reflective upon that person s everyday life (Scott, 2009). This is reflected by Moran, perhaps spuriously as; everyone coming home after work, nuking a TV dinner, brainlessly watching the idiot box and tucking themselves into bed (Moran, 2008). Maybe a more scandalous example is that of sexual betrayal s, and what can be a rapid expansion from a micro issue in a person s private life to a broader issue that impacts on families and broader society (Bennett, 1994). Jacobsen briefly touches on this in support of Scott, by describing everyday life in terms of having; a place, space, location, domain connotation, a temporal dimension i.e. relating to time and as having an attitude, mentality or state of consciousness , so when deconstructed it speaks to where everyday life happens, with what regularity and the scrutinization that takes places (Jacobsen, 2009, p14). To conclude, I premised this essay on everyday life being an almost intangible concept, in Scott s words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Examples Of Racism In Huckleberry Finn The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is not a racist novel, nor is Mark Twain a racist author. As Leopold Von Ranke said, You have reckoned that history ought to judge the past and to instruct the contemporary world as to the future. The present attempt does not yield to that high office. It will merely tell how it really was . The past had different norms and etiquette than today, and Twain was merely putting the reader into the perspective of those times. One can t judge the past and judge Twain s use of the word because in those days, the word was accepted, and not exactly racist . The novel was a satire on slavery and racism, that, as well as raising social awareness, was also one of the best American novels of all time. Huckleberry Finn... So the readers of Huck Finn today jump to the conclusion that Twain is racist because the simplest [things] cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of a doubt, what is laid before him (Leo Tolstoy). People already have a strong sense as to what racism consists of, so Twain comes off as a racist right away by using remarks that people have been taught their entire life are racial remarks.Twain introduced Jim as a comical, uneducated runaway slave, which most people took offense to. The silly behavior of Jim is common for characters in historical satires, which is most likely the reason for Twain s choice of Jim s appearance to the audience. Jim is described to the readers as [trustworthy] to the point of gullibility. These qualities are not altered during the course of the novel; instead, they are fleshed out and prove to be positives instead of negatives (CliffNotes). This content is then partaked and spread virally through the interaction made on the social media eco system. Human beings have poured out their feelings onto paper, as long as there have been people interested in them. Common themes have risen through the ages, such as the contrast between light and dark. Darkness is known for its negative undertone. In earlier times, we saw darkness as an interpretation of evil; likewise, light represented God and all good.
