vaccination, deworming, breeding, harvesting.
CULLING OF LIVESTOCK AND
POULTRY
 Poor production
 Poor reproduction
 Poor condition – stunted growth
 Breeding irregularities
 Stunted growth
 Genetic defects
 Disabled animals
 Old animals
 Surplus stock
 Lack of ideal dairy characters (Frame, Dairy characters).
 Culling of egg laying birds
Mottling in hen – Good layer
Layer Non-Layer
Start mottling late during first year Starts mottling early
Even lays eggs during mottling Do not lays eggs during mottling
Shed 2 or more primaries together Shed only 1 primary at once (Interval of 2

 Depigmentation at beak, vent, and shanks generally occurs in
layers.
 Sheep – Culled 15% per year.
