PAINLESS WISDOM
TOOTH REMOVAL
EVEN THE WISDOM TOOTH !!
• Wisdom teeth are the last molars
of each dental arch that usually
erupt around late teens, that is
why they are referred to as
“wisdom tooth”.
• Sometimes these teeth can be a
valuable asset to the mouth when
healthy and properly aligned, but
more often, they are misaligned
and require removal.
Wisdom tooth removal generally requires certain degree
of bone removal to facilitate delivery of tooth from its
position. The procedure can be traumatic and painful if
not done by a skilled clinician.
WHAT CAUSES WISDOM TEETH
TO GET MALALIGNED?
Limited Jaw Theory
• Daily jaw activities, motion of the masticatory
apparatus have been declining due to changes in
eating style and social background leading to reduced
temporomandibular functionality.
• Greater wisdom tooth impaction prevalence in
developed countries and in urban areas of developing
countries have been reported as compared to rural
areas due to traditional rural lifestyle and mastication
pattern.
Evolution theory
• With evolution, there has been a reduction in
functionality of the mastication apparatus, due to
refinement in food / eating habits, which has caused a
decrease in the length of the jaw, hence insufficient space
for the inclusion of wisdom tooth in the dentition.
• Another part of evolution theory states that
an increased brain size is at the expense of
the jaw size. Hence, the jaw has become too
small for the wisdom tooth to erupt
normally.
Growth and development theory
• This theory states that impaction of wisdom
tooth is mainly due to improper growth of
the jaw.
• For example as in response to endocrine
factor which regulate the growth of the
tongue and mastication muscles.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF MISALIGNED WISDOM
TOOTH
HOW DO I KNOW THAT I HAVE
A NEED TO UNDERGO ITS
REMOVAL?
• A wisdom tooth
demonstrates symptoms
only when it becomes
infected, damages other
teeth or causes other dental
problems, such as :
• Red / swollen / bleeding
gums
• Trismus / difficulty in mouth
opening
• Pain / may be radiating
• Bad breath / Any
unpleasant taste in your
mouth
• Pathologies (cysts,
tumors) in chronic stages
• If symptoms persist for a
longer duration, it is best
to get them removed.
WHY I CANNOT RETAIN MY
WISDOM TOOTH?
Retention of infected / malpositioned / misaligned
wisdom tooth can lead to various problems :
• Tooth Decay - food and bacteria get easily
trapped between the gum and a partially
erupted tooth. Therefore they are more prone
to decay.
• Damage to other teeth - during eruption,
wisdom tooth may apply pressure to the
second molar leading to crowding of the
other teeth or increase the risk of infection in
that area.
• Pericoronitis - It is an inflammatory gum
condition, causing severe pain , trismus and
sometimes pus discharge.
• Cysts - The sac around the wisdom tooth can
fill with fluid, semi fluid or gaseous content,
forming a cyst that can damage the jawbone,
teeth and nerves.
• Sinus problems – such issue arise with
maxillary wisdom tooth. They can push and
rub against the sinuses putting pressure on
them leading to sinus pain, pressure,
headaches, and congestions.
• Although it is not a common problem as sinus
lining is usually distant from the tooth.
• Cellulitis – a bacterial infection in cheek,
tongue or throat may occur.
• Space infection – pus discharge may spread
to other anatomical spaces in vicinity

PAINLESS INJECTION
• Anesthetic delivery devices which using pressure
and vibration (VIBRAJECT ) , eutectic mixtures of
anesthetics (EMLA), and supplemental anesthesia
into the osseous tissue.
• In Vibraject, when
vibration and pain
signals are combined,
the “vibration”
impulses predominates
over “pain” impulses
carried by nerves.
• The patient only
experiences vibration.
SEDATION TECHNIQUES AVAILABLE
• Conscious sedation achieved by taking an
oral medication, along with an anti-anxiety
pill, shortly before the procedure can relieve
you from your apprehensions of your wisdom
tooth removal procedures.
And whichever method of anesthesia you decide on, you
can trust the team at Dr Sachdeva’s Dental Institute to
provide you with a safe and painless dental experience.
LASER IN WISDOM TOOTH
EXTRACTION
• The team at Dr Sachdeva’s Dental Institute have
been using the latest, most invasive and far too
gentle then the scalpel surgery, LASERs for
incision.
• The lasers have an upper hand on providing a
bloodless operating field, minimal swelling,
scarring, and much less or no post-surgical pain.
• They provide a perfect blend of haemostasis and
coagulation.
PEIZOSURGERY
• It is a new and revolutionary bone removal
technique utilizing the micro vibration of scalpels at
ultrasonic frequency resulting in less swelling, less
trismus.
