17. Male Reproductive
System
• Testes - have two functions: 1) produce sperm; and 2)
make the hormone testosterone
• Sperm duct and glands - the sperm passes through
the sperm ducts, and mix with fluids produced by glands
(seminal vesicles). The fluids provide sperm cells with
nutrients. zThis mixture is called semen
18. Male Reproductive
System
• Penis and urethra - the penis has two functions: 1) pass
urine out of the body; and 2) pass semen into the vagina of a
woman during sexual intercourse. Urethra carries urine or
semen. A ring of muscle ensures that urnie and semen do
not get mixed up.
19. Female Reproductive
System
• Ovaries - contain ova (egg cells). Women have these cells
in their bodies from birth
• Fallopian Tubes - each ovary is connected to the uterus
by fallopian tube (oviduct). The cilia guide the ovum along
inside the fallopian tube and into the uterus
20. Female Reproductive
System
• Uterus and cervix - the uterus is a muscular bag with a
soft lining. It is where a baby develops until its birth. The
cervix is a ring of muscle at the lower end of uterus. It keeps
the baby in place while the woman is pregnant.
21. Female Reproductive
System
• Vagina and urethra - a vagina is a muscular tube that
leads from the cervix to the outside of the woman’s body.
The opening to the vagina has folds of skin called labia that
meet to form a vulva. Urethra opens into the vulva, but is
separate from the vagina. It passes urine out of the body
from the bladder.
