CLT originated in the 1960s from changes to British language teaching. It focuses on using English interactively and communicatively between students rather than just for the teacher's use. Students negotiate as communicators, giving and receiving information from peers instead of just the teacher. To apply CLT, teachers must focus on student-student interaction through activities and materials conducted mainly in English. While difficult, it strengthens students' English communication skills compared to traditional methods.
