Sony IMX400 Tri-layer Stacked CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) with Integrated DRAM an...Yole Developpement
A closer look at the impressive, industry-first, tri-layer stacked CIS.
Sony leads the global CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) market, commanding more than a third share of the industry’s total revenue. And over the years, Sony has maintained its leadership by providing innovative CIS products for original equipment manufacturers like Samsung or Apple. In 2017, Sony as a smartphone designer decided to release in its flagship the latest and potentially the greatest innovation in the past decade of CIS manufacturing.
Inside the Sony Xperia™ XZs and the XZ Premium, the latest Motion Eye™ can be found, with the new IMX400 CIS. This three-layer stacked CIS is made with the traditional pixel array and logic circuit on the same die, but also a 1Gb DRAM memory allowing slow motion at almost 960 frames per second.
This innovative CIS is Sony’s next generation technology. The CIS includes a 22 Mpixel array, a 1Gb DRAM die and a digital signal processor (DSP) on the same die footprint. This is the first tri-layer stacked CIS on the market. In this configuration, Sony can provide a fast readout image sensor with no distortion when shooting fast-moving objects thanks to the high capacity DRAM between the pixel array circuit and the DSP circuit.
Using Sony’s Exmor-RS and Xperi’s Zibond technologies, Sony has managed to integrate the three dies in a single thin, small and cost-effective sensor die. Surprisingly, the die sensor uses a unique sort of TSV at different levels to interconnect the dies.
This report includes a complete analysis of the camera module from the Sony Xperia™ XZs, featuring camera module disassembly and die analyses, processes and cross-sections. It also includes a comparison with the Samsung Galaxy S7, Apple iPhone 7 Plus, and Huawei P9 telephoto camera modules. At the CIS level, it compares the IMX400 with the IMX260, the IMX286, and the latest custom CIS for Apple from Sony’s portfolio. Finally, it contains a complete cost analysis and a selling price estimation of the CIS die.

Power GaN 2017: Epitaxy, Devices, Applications, and Technology Trends 2017 Re...Yole Developpement
The GaN power device supply chain is acting to support market growth.
THE SUPPLY CHAIN FOR POWER GAN PREPARES FOR PRODUCTION
The supply chain is close to being settle for the Power GaN market and deals during 2017 show confidence that GaN will be a successful market. First of all, there have been big investments from the main foundries to increase their capacity to handle mass production. Navitas just announced the partnership with TSMC and Amkor to ramp production capacity. Moreover, BMW i Ventures has just invested in GaN Systems. The Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs is also interested in using GaN for clean and green technologies, also in collaboration with GaN Systems.
GaN manufacturers continue developing new products and provide samples to customers, as is the case with EPC and its wireless charging line. During 2017, Panasonic announced the mass production of its 650 V products and Exagan successfully produced its first high voltage devices on 8-inch wafers. Other players are in the final phase of R&D or qualification for their GaN products to be launched in 2018. In both cases, manufacturers and clients are pushing to use GaN HEMTs in emerging technologies.
Yole Développement differentiates the Power GaN supply chain into two main models: the Integrated Device Manufacturer (IDM) model and the foundry model. We think that both IDM and foundry models will co-exist while there are different needs on the market, for example in consumer and industrial applications. In addition to the existing models, China is introducing a model with an R&D research center or design center, an external epitaxial supplier and a foundry for manufacturing, to support large-scale demand in the future.
This report furnishes an overview of the GaN power industry, covering the value chain from epitaxy and device design to device processing. It updates the supply chain and there is an overview of the year’s investments.

Power GaN 2016: Epitaxy and Devices, Applications, and Technology Trends - 20...Yole Developpement
GaN power devices: a promising, fast-growing market
A GROWING MARKET WITH LOTS OF EXCITING NEWS IN 2015 - 2016
2015 - 2016 has been an exciting year for the gallium nitride (GaN) power business. Up until late 2014, 600V/650V GaN HEMTs’ commercial availability was still questionable, despite some announcements from different players. Fast-forward to 2016 end users can now buy not only low-voltage GaN (<200V) devices from Efficient Power Conversion (EPC), but also high-voltage (600V/650V) components from several players, including Transphorm, GaN Systems, and Panasonic.
Also, a new start-up, Navitas Semiconductor, announced their GaN power IC in March 2016, followed by Dialog Semiconductors revealing their GaN power IC in August 2016. The idea
of bringing GaN from the power semiconductor market to the much bigger analog IC market is of interest to several other players too. For example, EPC and GaN Systems are both working on a more integrated solution, and Texas Instruments, a well-established analog IC player, has also been engaged in GaN activities, releasing an 80V power stage and 600V power stage in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
Despite these exciting developments, the GaN power market remains small compared to the gigantic $335B silicon semiconductor market. In fact, according to Yole Développement (Yole) investigation the GaN power business was less than $10M in 2015. But before you think twice about GaN, remember that a small market size is not unusual for products just appearing on the market.
The first GaN devices were not commercially available until 2010, so we are talking about an industry that is only six years old. What is most important is the GaN market’s future potential – and Yole expects the GaN power business to grow, reaching a market size of around $300M in 2021 at a 2016 – 2021 CAGR of 86%.
This report provides a structured vision of the GaN power device market in terms of uses, applications, and potential trends.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

19. Over the last decade, the GaN power market
has been driven mostly by high-end, high-
performanceapplicationsofferinghigh-frequency
switching, low on-resistance, and smaller form
factor at system level. But things are changing for
GaN power in 2019 - it’s entering mainstream
consumer applications! Following its inclusion
in several aftermarket chargers, Chinese OEM
Oppo announced the adoption of a GaN HEMT
device in its 65W inbox fast-chargers for its new
Reno Ace flagship model. This is the first time
GaN power devices have entered a high-volume
smartphone market, and it is likely to be a real
game-changer for GaN power.
In addition to the exciting consumer market,
GaN is attracting lots of attention from various
OEMs and Tier1s, i.e. Valeo and Continental
in the automotive industry. Indeed, GaN is
very interesting for emerging 48V DC/DC

expects qualification by next year. These
device manufacturers are working closely
with packaging companies like ASE, AT&S, and
Schweizer to enter the OEM supply chain and
enjoy increasing volumes starting in 2023 - 2024
according to Yole Développement.
GaN is also expected to penetrate industrial
and telecom power supply applications including
datacom, base stations, UPS, and industrial
LiDAR applications. Following the first small-
volume adoption of GaN-based power supplies
by Eltek, Delta, and BelPower over the last few
years, Yole analysts’ expect broader penetration
of GaN in the near future, with increasing
efficiency requirements in data centers
benefiting from enhanced GaN device maturity
+ cost-competitiveness.
Overall, compared to Yole’s 2018 report and
its two market scenarios, this year’s market

thanks to GaN’s adoption in Oppo’s inbox fast
chargers. Driven mainly by such consumer fast-
charger applications, Yole projects that the GaN
power business will exceed $350M by 2024, with
a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 85%.
This report conveys Yole’s understanding of
GaN device implementation in different market
segments, as well as our insights regarding the

20. POWER GaN 2019: EPITAXY, DEVICES,APPLICATIONS TECHNOLOGY TRENDS
WHICH TECHNOLOGY AND COMPANY WILL EARN THE BIGGEST SLICE OF PIE?
For many years the GaN power device landscape
was dominated by pure GaN start-up players like
EPC, GaN Systems, Transphorm, and Navitas,
which chose the foundry model and mostly used
TSMC, Episil, or X-FAB. But with the GaN market’s
resurgence, more and more players are arriving.
Recently, new foundries such as Innoscience,
SananIC, and IGSS GaN have also joined in to offer
services. Meanwhile, power electronics and power
management IDMs like Infineon, Panasonic, and
Texas Instruments are strengthening their product
portfolios too.
In 2019, one player’s market entrance was
particularly spectacular: Power Integrations, which
announced that it had not only shipped close to
3Munits of its new Innoswitch3 with a SiP GaN
HEMT product, but also earned a design win
with a major smartphone OEM. What’s more,
according to System Plus Consulting’s teardown
have managed to enter at least 50 aftermarket fast-
charger brands, including Ravpower, Anker, and
Aukey. As mentioned earlier, one of the year’s most
significant developments was Oppo’s adoption of
GaN HEMTs for 65W inbox fast charging in its high-
end model. What other possible market scenarios
exist for GaN adoption in this mass market?
Yole anticipates proliferation of Chinese OEM
challengers such as Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi in the
emerging 5G luxury smartphone business, which
demands significant technology differentiation.
Oppo’s SuperVOOC 2.0 meets these demands,
with its reduced charging time and charger size.
Other Chinese OEMs have also announced very
high-power fast charging (beyond 100W), and could
potentially adopt GaN devices in the coming years.
In light of these prospective achievements, the
overall GaN device market is nominally expected
to surpass $350M by 2024.
In a more optimistic scenario (and in addition to
Chinese OEMs deploying high-power fast chargers),
GaN could also be adopted by other players
- including leading OEMs like Apple, Huawei,
and Samsung - after achieving high maturity and
market acceptance as well as cost-competitiveness
compared to Si MOSFETs. In the best-case, this
could create truly remarkable market opportunities.
In either of these scenarios, Yole analysts’ expect
significant growth: a CAGR of at least 92% from
2018 - 2024 for the GaN-based power supply
market.
In this report, Yole invites you to discover diverse
market scenarios for GaN-based consumer
fast-charging applications, and broaden your
understanding of GaN’s innovative technology and
landscape.

report, Power Integrations’ PowiGaNTM
technology is influenced by GaN-on-sapphire
- a considerable departure from today’s
mainstream GaN-on-Si technology.
In a GaN power market bursting with potential,
more players are expected to enter and benefit
from high-volume opportunities. For example,
LED manufacturers may want to leverage
their GaN-on-sapphire know-how and high
production capacity to derive considerable
benefit. A fierce competition is likely to break
out between all of these actors and their
different business models. However, everyone’s
ultimate goal is the same: gain a foothold in the
lively GaN power market, earn a design win,
and ramp up!
In this report, Yole provides an overview of the
GaN power industry playground, covering the
value chain from epitaxy and device design, to
packaging for GaN-on-Si and GaN-on-sapphire
technologies. We also explore different
