Example Of 5 Paragraph Essay
Writing an essay, especially one that adheres to the traditional 5-paragraph structure, may
initially seem like a straightforward task. However, delving into the process reveals its inherent
challenges. Crafting a coherent and compelling essay requires more than just stringing words
together; it demands thoughtful organization, a clear thesis statement, and a well-structured
argument.
Firstly, formulating a concise yet comprehensive thesis statement can be a daunting task. This
single sentence serves as the backbone of the entire essay, encapsulating the main idea and
setting the tone for the subsequent paragraphs. Ensuring that the thesis is not only clear but also
engaging can be a delicate balance.
The next hurdle involves organizing ideas into a coherent structure. Each paragraph must
seamlessly transition into the next, creating a logical flow of information. Maintaining this
cohesion while adequately developing each point requires careful planning and revising. The
challenge lies in presenting a well-rounded argument within the confines of each paragraph
without sacrificing depth or clarity.
Furthermore, selecting appropriate evidence to support the thesis poses its own set of difficulties.
The evidence must be relevant, compelling, and seamlessly integrated into the essay. Balancing
the need for specificity with the broader argument requires a keen understanding of the topic and
an ability to discern the most impactful supporting details.
Another aspect that can complicate the writing process is ensuring that the essay remains focused
and does not deviate from its central theme. Tangential discussions can dilute the impact of the
main argument, making it crucial for the writer to stay vigilant in maintaining relevance
throughout.
In conclusion, crafting a 5-paragraph essay is not as straightforward as it may initially appear.
The writer must navigate challenges such as formulating a strong thesis, organizing ideas
coherently, selecting impactful evidence, and maintaining focus. Successfully overcoming these
hurdles results in an essay that not only meets the structural requirements but also engages and
persuades the reader.

Psychological Theories In Health And Social Care
Psychology is the study of the behaviour, emotions and thought processes. It,
however, can contribute to our relationship as well as ourselves with other
individuals, if it is applied in other ways that are informed (Churchill Lecture Notes,

theories of psychologyand also research which promotes the evidenced based public
health and personal. Psychology in health and social care is important in various
ways. One of the main reason is to promote the health and well being of individuals

As with Thomas in the case study, his feelings and emotions must be recognised as
he keeps on having memory of being an orphanage. He needs to be motivated of the
acceptance of facts. Carl Rogers is in agreement with Abraham Maslow s theory as it
relates to self actualisation whereby, he suggest that individuals need to be in a
surrounding that gives them authenticity, acceptance and empathy so they are able to
advance. Mr. Thomas was giving empathy and authenticity in which the social worker
made efforts so he could get better but he has not adjusted to his negative thoughts
that causes him to feel tied, restless and tense. On the other hand, Carl Rogers is of
the believe that everyone can accomplish whatever they desire.
Abraham Maslow main focus is the pyramid which is the hierarchy of needs to

physical needs to the highest needs which is self actualization to maximize their full
potential.
However, Maslow s humanistic approach to development has well as behaviour is

birthdays closer to the first typically do better due to maturity. This slight advantage

Analysis Of Catch 22 By Joseph Heller Essay
Tick, Tick, Tick...BOOM! One of the most lethal and disastrous bombs our world
obtains, corruption. A fist of an orange and blood red flame punches its way out of
the shell, smoke and varicolored fire rushing out, while the corpses of innocent lives,
lay on the cold stone ground helplessly, paying the insolent price of conformity. For
every tick of the bomb, a defenseless and innocent life is sacrificed. There is only a
transient amount of time we have to defuse the bomb, until it explodes, obliterating
society as whole. In Catch 22, Joseph Heller unveils the idea of corruption in war and
militarysystems and how one must never conform to flawed ideas and rules
because if we are against any type of moral, idea, or rule, and we sit back,
observing the issue, nothing in this world will ever change, allowing corruption to
consume us, bit by bit, just like a bomb. Tick, Tick, Tick... Slowly the death black
bomb burns due to the absence of decisive action being taken towards ending the
flawed system of promotions to the bureaucracy and the distribution of medals to
gullible soldiers, in order to veil their corrupt set of demands and their unreliable
hierarchical status, when they, the soldiers, should be attempting to put an end to it,
in order to make it out of the war alive. In Catch 22, The FBI sends five men and a
scotch terrier to spy on Major Major by then placing him in the army, where he is

Shakespeare s Othello
Desdemona in Othello
In William Shakespeare s tragic drama Othello, the wife of the protagonist is
Desdemona. She is a lovely, intelligent, wholesome and pious person. This essay will
analyze her.
In Act 1 Scene1, Iago persuades the rejected suitor of Desdemona, Roderigo, to
accompany him to the home of Brabantio, Desdemona s father, in the middle of the
night. Once there the two awaken him with loud shouts about his daughter s
elopement with Othello. In response to Iago s vulgar descriptions of Desdemona s
involvement with the general, Brabantio arises from bed and, with Roderigo s help,
gathers a search party to go and find Desdemona and bring her home. The father s
attitude is that life without his Desdemona ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Thus it would seem that Desdemona has been living her life with a father who is
primarily interested in self and less in Desdemona. And yet she has emerged
unscarred psychologically, and capable of deep love for Othello.
Entrusted to the ancient s care and that of his Emilia, Desdemona arrives at the
seaport of Cyprus. While waiting there for Othello s ship, she grows tired of Iago s
derogatory comments directed at his wife, and she quite matter of factly states her
mind: O, fie upon thee, slanderer! and even directs Iago s focus off of Emilia and
onto her ownself: What wouldst thou write of me, if thou shouldst praise me? Her
total forthrightness and courage show her to be the daughter of a senator! She
continues to critique the ancient s answers to her questions: These are old fond
paradoxes to make fools laugh i the alehouse and O heavy ignorance! thou praisest
the worst best. She is not fearful or reticent in the least.
Once that her husband has safely arrived on the island and disembarked, she greets
him publicly, and later responds before the crowd to his loving address to herself:
The heavens forbid
But that our loves and comforts should increase,
Even as our days do grow! (2.1)
She is showing herself to be a most wise and feeling wife. It is this tenderness that

Eulogy For Myron
We are here to remember and celebrate Myron we are here to do so at a seven

his family and dear friends, so many of whom are here gathered, some of whom are

the impact a man has had on this life is the legacy he leaves behind in the hearts,

Derlyn E. Moe V. Eastern Air Lines Inc Summary
The reemployment process in the airliner industry has been a major concern over
the past few decades. Due to the fact that the United States has been involved in
multiple wars means that thousands of airliner pilots have been forced into military
service. Why? These pilots were on inactive duty service. When America went to
war, these individuals were called upon to serve the country. Once finished with
their service, these individuals have a hard time retrieving the same paygrade status
prior to service. One particular court case stands out from the rest of the group. In
Derlyn E. Moe v. Eastern Air Lines, INC., conducted by the United States Court of

Moe v. Eastern Air Liners, INC., U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, June 18, 1957.
The plaintiff, Derlyn Moe, claims that he is entitled to Eastern Airline s seniority
paygrade for the time spent in the U.S. Military. The plaintiff supported his case by
introducing the Universal Military Training and Service Act which basically states
that his employment and paygrade status will be what it is suppose to be if he had
continuously worked for the airliner and had not served the Armed Forces. The
defendant, Eastern Airliner, claims that in order to receive senior paygrade status,
one must complete the one year probationary period which Moe did not complete.
The case was directly issued to the respective District Court of Appeals (Fifth Circuit)
so no lower form of court ruling is presented. When presented with the case, the judge
at the time had to answer three questions. Does the court have the correct jurisdiction

The Complex Character of the Merchant in The Canterbury
Tales
Sometimes a character is not fully revealed right away in order to surprise and
convey a specific purpose later on. Chaucer demonstrates this idea in The Canterbury
Tales, specifically with the Merchant character. In the General Prologue, Chaucer
portrays the Merchant as a respectable character; however, he hints aspects of the
Merchants personality that question this respectable image. The Merchant s entire
personality is later revealed in his Prologue and Tale, as it is made evident of his
cynical and pessimistic outlook, making him less respectful. In this novel, the
Merchant is categorized as a salesman and trader who imports and exports wholesale
goods from several countries. Toward the end of the 14th century, merchants had an...

This aspect is important for the Merchant s personality, as it further questions his
true character, suggesting dishonestly. He is only revealed acting professionally,
talking only of business, and showing little of his true self. The General Prologue
includes a substantial amount of information regarding the Merchant s appearance
and forced personality (due to his job and pride), but his own prologue and tale
reveals more personal traits and thoughts, creating a more complex, but less
respectable character. The General Prologue does not include the personal
problems he is facing, as introducing a completely different character is more
surprising and unexpected to the reader (Brown 141). The Merchant s unhappiness
and cynical view of marriage is introduced in his Prologue and emphasized in his
Tale and Epilogue, as he attempts to inform others how marriage is extremely
difficult. It is evident that the Merchant is having an emotional crisis (Kittredge
450), especially after the Clerk s tale about a patient wife. The Merchant finally
reveals his true character, as he explains his unhappiness with his new marriage,
which has only lasted two months so far, and the Prologue and tale are joined by a
common pattern of imagery in which the language of binding, tapping, and
imprisonment describes the effect of marriage on the once free spirit of the husband
(Brown 144). Thus, the irony
Fashion And Fads In The 1980 s
Imagine you were doing a research paper on a decade such as the 1980s. Where
would you start? With the economy? With politics? How about we start off with
the latest fashion and fads. Women in the 1980s wore Big Hair or a Mullet with
jean jackets and vans. Lots of teens wore Chuck Taylors (Converse). Little girls wore
jelly shoes, the only shoes you could wear without socks. What decade would
research and where would you start from? I m researching the decade called The
1980s . Topics I ve researched are fashion/fads, music/dance, recreation/leisure,
politics, economy, values/culture, inventions/technology/print, and lastly, sports.
Sounds like a lot of research, but it s pretty interesting if you think about it. There s
a lot a decades to find and research. Find the one you re interested in and start
researching! Fashion was all the rage back in the 1980s. Mostly men and women
wore a mullet, kids wore their jelly shoes, and teens had their boom boxes. But
there s way more to it than fashion. There s also fads. Fads such as the slangs

Dickinson And Plath
Emily Dickinson and Sylvia Plath explore the dangers of losing their individual self
in their poems I felt a funeral in my brain and The arrival of the bee box. They
portray that lack of power makes them feel helpless to a point where they cannot
control their minds.
Both Dickinson and Plath use poetry as an emotional release for their troubled minds,
demonstrating their descend into madness. Dickinson repeats certain words in a
rhythmic pacing to highlight what she feels. She constructs images of a funeral with
mourners to and fro. The mourners reinforce the idea of loss and their repetitive
treading in her mind appears to be symbolising a monotonous distressing burden. The
funeral she feels in her brain shows the pressure she senses. Not only was her ... Show

Dickinson feels the mourners in her brain beating beating, but has no understanding
of how to stop it. This depicts her inability to control her mind. The repetition of
beating also enhances the dull feeling. The imagery of that sense breaking through
implies a resistance to the death for which the funeral is being held. Nonetheless,
stanza four marks the shift of the tone. It shifts from ritualistic to chaotic and the
imagery of the speaker left alone wrecked and in solitary creates a sense of
foreboding. Correspondingly, Plath conveys a similar message throughout her
poem. Comparable to Dickinson, she portrays the hazard that comes with losing
one s mind. Not only is the bee box a metaphor for the brain, as Plath states that
The box is locked, it is dangerous, the readers get a sense that she is scared of her
own mind. She has to live with it overnight and feels a sense of dread because of this.
Plath wonders what would happen if she just undid the locks and stood back... letting

A Brief Note On Asphalt And Warm Mix Asphalt
Introduction
What is asphalt?
Asphalt is a mixture of coarse and fine aggregates (mainly stone and sand) mixed with
bitumen (asphalt cement).
The aggregates can be obtained from natural sources with the correct grading or
from quarries where crushed aggregates are processed. Quarry is usually the main
source of aggregates for asphalt mixtures.
Bitumen can also be obtained from natural sources, but these natural sources are only
available in certain countries. The main source of bitumen for asphalt mixtures is
from petroleum processing where bitumen is a byproduct of the distillation of crude
oil. This by product is then further processed to form bitumen of different grades.

Cold mix is applied to the road paving, shaped and compacted while it is still in its
plastic state. After a while the water from the emulsion mixture evaporates and the
mixture starts to harden.
Cold mix asphalt can be produced at any temperature above freezing. The products
used are usually mixed together at air temperature.
Cold mix asphalt is mainly used for maintenance purposes like pothole repair due to
its essay workability, and low production cost. Cold mix asphalt is used more in
colder countries where it is not always possible to use warm mix asphalts for
maintenance due to the rapid cooling of these warm products at cold temperatures.
Warm Mix Asphalt
Warm mix asphalt should not be confused with hot mix asphalt. The name hot or
warm mix asphalt is dependent on the temperature at which the asphalt is
manufactured.
Hot mix asphalt is manufactured at temperatures ranging from 150 175 degrees
celsius and mainly used for paving on highways.
Warm mix asphalt is manufactured at temperatures ranging from 90 120 degrees
celsius. Due to the lower manufacturing temperature of warm mix asphalt it uses less
energy per ton to produce. Therefor it is cheaper to produce warm mix asphalt.
Additional binding materials and additives like wax and emulsions are added to
soften the product thus making it easier to spread at low temperatures.
Due to the fact that warm mix asphalt is more workable at lower temperatures than
hot mix asphalts it can be

Overview of Business for the Glory of God Essay examples
In his book, Business for the Glory of God Wayne Grudem discusses why business
and making a profit from it is not evil and can be used for the glory of God. While
this book is not an in depth analysis, it does provide a brief overview of why the
author believes that business can be and should be used to glorify God. In the
book, the author starts off by posing the question of whether or not business itself
is good or evil. Of course, business by itself is neither good nor evil it is the people
involved in the business that make it what it is. A person s morals and ethics will
shape how their business operates, whether for good or ill. If we use our business to
show people the glory of God, than our business is doing good for the... Show more

This leads some people to believe that we can never really own anything because it
already belongs to God. While this is true in a sense I agree with the author when
he says that God created us with a desire to own things so that we could imitate his
sovereignty that way. Another article I read concerning property ownership says,
Those who wish to deny private property, and thus, the biblical mandate of
stewardship, fail to recognize God s order for society (Demar, 2010). When God
made us He gave charge over the Earth and everything in it and having been given
charge of it we assume ownership of it until we leave it. The example that I have
heard a lot for this is the parable of the unfaithful steward. In this parable, a
nobleman left the country to receive a kingdom for himself, leaving ten of his
servants each with a mina to look after while he was gone. While the other servants
did something to increase the possessions they were given one hid it so it would
be safe. When the nobleman returns and discovers this he takes the mina from the
poor steward and gives it to another. This infers ownership of the mina that each
servant was given because he takes what the one steward has and gives it to another.
He doesn t keep it because the charge of it has been given over to the servants.
Insights like these in the Bible help to prove the fact of personal ownership. The
second aspect that the author discussed that I agree with is that of
Defensive Lineman Case Study
Will the Steelers go after a defensive lineman early in this draft? Though the
Steelers defense struggled for much of 2015, one area emerged as one of the best
young groups in football: the defensive line. Cam Heyward and Stephon Tuitt
combined for 13.5 sacks on the year and were both a force in a run defense that
was fifth in the league. But outside of these two young thoroughbreds, the rest of
the defensive line was average at best. Steve McLendon had another so so season
while Cam Thomas made about $222,222 per tackle in 2015 (his salary was $2
million). They both now hit free agency, but McLendon is the only one out of the two
with any chance of returning to Pittsburgh. But if McLendon doesn t resign the only

His combination of speed off the ball and upper body strength allows him to blow
past offensive lineman. Over his four years, Butler racked 28.5 tackles for loss

fight it off or eat the double preventing lineman from climbing up to the

benefits him in the run game but the passing game. He can rush from anywhere on
the defensive line using his tremendous athleticism. His bull rush and swim move
have been devastating Conference USA linemen thanks to his freakily large arms.
However, he only totaled 5 sacks in his career. Still, Butler was named first team

Heyward and Tuitt will be a great upgrade. He is a much better penetrator than

type of talent he possesses, his addition to the defensive front will make him a force

The Problem Of West Mendham
In theory and in practice, it is always a dangerous idea to look the other way in
order to fulfil one s own selfish needs. It is even more dangerous when a casting
body of authority decides to turn a blind eye because they perceive the benefits to
outweigh the cost. In a nutshell, this is what the town decision makers of West
Mendham are dealing with. They are blinded by short termgains and thus fail to see
the long term effect of the agreement made with Pyle Associates. This is not to say
development is not a good idea for the town of West Mendham because it is.
However, with development comes more risk. A risk which the town of West
Mendham is willing to undertake in order to achieve short term economic gains.
Of course building a floodwall shows that the town of West Mendham have a clear
understanding of the risk the town faces as opposed to not having a floodwall. The
construction of the wall will have both positive and negative impact. Nonetheless,
the immediate advantage of the wall will be to protect the inland side of the wall
from flooding. This type of floodwall is also best for areas like West Mendham
where space is limited. In an event of a flood, the walls will serve as a sustainable
mechanism to help reduce the impact of flooding and building damages would be
limited. These are of course some positive aspects of the floodwall, assuming its
construction.
However, the construction of the floodwall comes with potential undesirable risk and

school sports at the same time. These sports are either individual sports like
swimming, to group activities like football, baseball, and lacrosse. Statistics show
that kids start sports between the ages of 6 and 7 years old. In 2008, 30% of
youths between the ages of 6 12 were active in organized sports, by 2015, the
youths between 13 17 years old had dropped from 42% to 39%. In order to achieve
something you need to be passionate about it. By truly finding excitement in what
you love, makes you work hard and strive for greatness. With the progression of
sports, society has encouraged and enjoyed watching athletes from all different age
groups. Based on a current study from the NCAA recruiting facts, only 2 % of high
school athletes are awarded scholarships.. These athletes work hard during their four
years of high school maintaining their grades in order to play in the hopes that they
get selected to play in college. Some of these students need a scholarship in order to
attend college, because they can t afford it. The scholarships to colleges, usually
cover full tuition and fees, room and board, and books. According to Lauren
Deutsch with the Crimson White Paper, Student athletes are one of the top
generators for colleges bringing in a substantial amount of revenue for the college.
In 2015, Alabama football generated $95,132,301 in revenue, according to the
Tuscaloosa News. Even accounting for $48,640,971in expenses, including Coach
Saban s 7 million salary, we still turned a 46 million profit (Deutsch). Many of the
scholarships are not for 4 years, but renewable annually. If the athlete gets injured or
is unable to play then they lose their scholarship leaving them unable to pay for their
education. In 2014, according to FORBES magazine, college football players at

Dbq Plessy V. Ferguson
The landmark case of Plessy v. Ferguson is a Constitutional case in which it had to be
decided who the constitution meant when it said all men are created equal. This case
is very important to our constitution and to the people being governed by the
constitution because it brought up issues that hadn t been discussed in the U.S
before. This case shows the degree of federalism and how much the government paid
attention to it. The amendments in the constitution do not apply to a simple race or
ethnicity. Throughout history laws have been made and destroyed at the cost of
colored people, in the Plessy v. Ferguson case it is shown that due to the thirteenth
and fourteenth amendments all citizens have equal protection under the law. Plessy
was denied his right, as well as other colored people because they belonged to
different bathrooms, they belonged to different train cars and they belonged to
different water fountains at this time in history, but Plessy ... Show more content on

Essay on Complexity Theory
The words complexity and complex have been used in the context of management.
While the word complex suggests dynamics rising from the interaction between
elements, factors, parts, it results in nonlinear and ongoing changes in the parts. The
word complexity is used different ways in many organization systems. The different
uses of this word is dependent on the systems being chartered and organized.
Nowadays, complexitytheory is at the center of what systems are today and it is
attached with the concept that a system is more than a set of machines. Regarding
complexity theory, Margarita Mayoral (2012) stated that Complexity theory enables
the identification, characterization, and comparison of the structure and dynamics of

Complexity theory tries to rationalize the behavior of complex systems by attempting
to discover how the separated factors of a system cooperate together to shape the
system and its outcomes. Characteristics of Complexity theory
Complexity theory also has some basic characteristics: Complexity theory is
characterized by a number of similar elements but they are separated. These elements
interact information together by receiving from their neighbors.
While elements keep interacting together, one agent s actions will affect to another
agents so based on these action, they divide into two kinds of feedback which are
negative and positive feedback which are the unique feature that differ the complex
system from a complicated system. Due to these characteristics, small changes in
one area can make a large changes in the whole systems: It is not always easy to
determine and identify the boundaries of a complex system. The boundary often
comes from the observer s needs. But sometimes, we can base on the property of the
systems to find the boundaries of a complex system. History is an important
characteristic in complex systems. It is easy to recognize that all the actions,
reactions, and behaviors in the past can influence the current s behavior. Besides, the
complex system also has some other

Chapter 1-4 Summary Chapter 4
Turkle introduces Chapter Eight by explaining an experiment conducted by faculty
and students at MIT in which students are connected to technology that connects
them to real and online life simultaneously, making them cyborgs . Now that it is
commonplace for most people in our society to have constant access to technology
with similar and vaster capabilities, we have all become cyborgs. Turkle believes
our ability to constantly connect to the online world changes who we are by
rearranging our priorities, our relationship with those around us, and how we connect
with our surroundings. People adore the new devices as well as the feelingthat they
are never truly alone. This constant access has unleashed multitudinous opportunities
for people of all ages to experiment with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since devices are always readily available people no longer make conscious
choices to communicate, they just do. The online world takes up all of our
attention. This constant connection skews our view of reality. In the online world,
anything is possible but people begin to measure their success in reality by what
would be possible if they were always online. People shaped in a world of quick
responses measure success by the number of people they reached that day. We deny
ourselves downtime in order to have more time for communicating. Constant
communication takes the importance out of what we say. We often worry that our
emails and texts are a burden. They have always seemed destined to be thrown
away. Because of this, we treat people we meet online as objects. Constantly keeping
up with connections changes who we are in the morning. Our cultural forms are
shifting. Networking makes it easier to change your identity, but also harder to leave
the past in the past. Turkle closes the chapter by recalling a conversation with a
student who is exhausted by keeping up with online
Women In A Jury Of Her Peers By Susan Glaspell
A Jury of Her Peers is a short story written by Susan Glaspell in 1917 and follows the
investigation of the murder of John Wright, with his wife Minnie Wright being the
alleged murderer. Martha and Lewis Hale assist Sheriff Peters and his wife, Mrs.
Peters, with investigating the scene of the crime. Throughout the story, women notice
significance in their findings, of which the men overlook. The men have a dismissive
attitude towards the women, ignoring their contributions. When the women solve the
crime in the end, they do not inform the men of the evidence found, which prevents
any conviction. In her short story, A Jury of Her Peers , Susan Glaspell conveys a
feminist theme of women being oppressed under male domination and genderroles.
She expresses this through the use of irony, symbolism, and characterization. First,
Glaspell makes effective use of irony to display the oppression of women and gender
roles. During this time period, women had little to no power and they were
considered unintelligent only being able to cook, clean, sew, et cetera. While
investigating the scene, the men belittle the women, deeming them to be too
unintelligent to provide anything practical to the investigation. Mr. Hale declared,
Would the women know a clue if they did come upon it? (Glaspell 370). This
statement is ironic, because in the end of the story, the women are the ones who
discover the clues that lead them to solving the crime, not the men. Not only do the
women
United States Involvement in World War II Essay
The United State s direct involvement in World War II officially began as soon as
the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Prior to that event, America had been providing
arms and equipment to England but stopped short of any direct military
confrontation with the Axis. The War in the Pacific was considered Asia s War and
the European War was considered a local conflict. US Japanese relations had
become strained in 1941, though America felt secure that her naval fleet at Pearl
Harbor, Hawaii was powerful enough to discourage any aggression from Japan. On
July 24, 1941, Japan occupied French Indo China (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos). Two
days after that, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt froze all Japanese assets in the
United States. American trade... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The American proposals included the following principals: respect for the territory
and sovereignty of all nations, no interference in the internal affairs of other
countries, equal opportunity, and support for the status quo in the Pacific by
peaceful means. Secretary Hull promised to free Japanese assets and resume
normal trade with Japan if these conditions were met. The Japanese asked for two
weeks to consider the proposals and by November 26 the aircraft carrier force that
attacked Pearl Harbor was already deployed for that task. American intelligence
was expecting a large attack by Japan but believed that it would take place in the
Philippines or Southeast Asia. President Tojo of Japan warned the U.S. and
England on November 29 that British and American influence in Asia must be
eliminated. Japan officially rejected the Hull proposals on December 1 and on
December 6, President Roosevelt personally appealed to Emperor Hirohito to
pursue peace and withdraw from Indo China. Early on Sunday morning, December
7, 1941, Japanese air and sea forces made a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, a
naval base of the United States. Simultaneously, Japan launched attacks on the
Philippines, Guam, and Midway Island and against British forces in Hong Kong and
the Malay Peninsula. There were eight battleships at pearl Harbor. The Arizona,
California and Utah were sunk. The Nevada was grounded,
Jeanne D Arc Vs Moral Letters To Lucilius
On the surface, the primary sources; The Trial of Jeanne d Arc , that took place in
1431, and Moral Letters to Lucilius written by Seneca in AD 65, may not seem like
they have much in common. However, there are a few connections between the two
primary sources. Jeanne D arc is being tried for heresy, claiming that St. Michael and
St. Catherine visit her to guide her religious endeavors. In letter number forty one of,
Moral Letters to Lucilius , Seneca speaks on the Godwithin us and the sacred mind.
Jeanne D arc s full conformity to God directly contrasts with Seneca s philosophyof
the sacred mind. These two primary sources are connected by Jeanne D arc s
claims that Saints visit her to dictate her actions and the corresponding
philosophies brought forward by Seneca. In Letter forty one, titled On the God
within us , Seneca discusses Stoic physics and the concept of God and the Holy
Spirit within human souls. He explains that a holy spirit dwells within each human
and as we treat it, so are we treated by it. He discusses the religious wonder many

Michael and St. Catherine visit her and guide her through religious endeavors.
Throughout Jeanne s trial, she maintains that everything she has done is what God
has commanded her. This relates to Seneca s description of a human soul held
upright by the divine. Jeanne d Arc fully embodies the sacred mind that Seneca refers
to in Letter number forty one of Moral Letters to Lucilius . However, Jeanne
abandons her own human nature and fully conforms to the guidance of St. Michael
and St. Catherine, or the sacred mind. Seneca states that humans must bring together
their portion of the divine mind and their own human nature, to achieve sustainability
and happiness in life. The saints full control over Jeanne D arc s actions is a direct

Chemical Weapons And Nuclear Weapons
Chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons have changed the way that people look at
wars forever. Since their implementation into the battlefield, it has been realized that
these taboo weapons are ones to be feared. Responsible for an extravagant amount of
deaths over the past eighty years, chemical, biological, and nuclear threats are not to
take lightly. A nuclear weaponis an explosive device designed to derive its destructive
explosion via nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, or a combination of the two processes .
The implementation of nuclear weapons was a
Figure 1) serious game changer, and gave the upper hand to the more
technologically advanced countries because of the scientific efforts that go into
developing these weapons, making the possession of nuclear weapons a more apt
problem for nations themselves, rather than non state actors, such as terrorist
groups. As shown in Figure 1, there has been a general steady decrease of the
amount of nuclear weapons held by the United States. This is where chemical and
biological weapons differ from nuclear weapons. Over the past years, chemical and
biological weapons have seen more action, and this can be attested to the significant
difference in developing these weapons. Because chemical and biological weapons
are so easily acquired, it is more likely to see them being used by terrorist groups
rather than nations themselves. Because of the potential threats and easy obtainment
of biological weapons, they are potentially the
Figurative Themes In The Movie Crash
The week s movie was Crash by Paul Higgins. In this film it talks about many literal
and figurative crashes. In short, the film talks about the many racial and sexual
stereotypes. Some of the stereotypes are African Americans (Ludacris) are involved
in improper actions against the majority, city officials (Matt Dillon) dealing with
unnecessary force against people of the opposite sex and minority groups and them
having corruption on many levels, Caucasians (Sandra Bullock) making demeaning
comments towards minorities, Muslims (Shaun Toub) having their own backlash on
others because they fear for themselves, Asian Americans (Howard Fong) being
treated as perfect human beings, and Hispanics (Michael PeГ±a) being classify as
robbers and stealers of many things ranging from person tangible things to the sense
of security. Crashin all its forms is a very touching movie that touches many emotions
both externally and internally and with them it brings the watcher to reflect on
current society and norms.
The movie with its many poignant scenes helps brings out many explicit and
figurative means of Crash. Crash disregards the classic cinema model and puts in
many realistic scene that at some times brings out the emotional side of people. A
classical cinema avoids the extremes of didacticism and pure abstraction, but even
light entertainment movies are stepped in value judgements (Giannetti, 405), well
realism or realistic scene excels in portraying the actual textures and
Grendel s Flaws In Beowulf
Throughout his battles with Grendel and his mother, Beowulf shows that beyond a
doubt he is the strongest warrior in the land, yet he displays serious flaws in his
character that could have cost him that title. Beowulf is very strategic; the weapons
he uses, the location in which he battles even the monsters he chooses to battle are all
chosen to prove himself to be the best. In his first battle with the monster Grendel,
Beowulfeasily and confidently defeats his enemy, yet in this battle with the monster s
mother, he faces his flaws dead on. Beowulf always emerges as the hero, at least on
the outside.

The Bible states that no man should feel jealous toward their neighbor, in fact envy
is one of the seven deadly sins. Grendel is the manifestation of this sin. Being the

the merciless destroyer of people. Grendel s mother did not symbolize sin, but
rather the consequence of disobedience toward the social norm. Women in the

The beginning of the year wasn t exactly as I envisioned as an eighth grader. I

Diversity, uniqueness, many personalities converging, and amazing people to

an amazing concert that wowed and made us all smile. I learned many lessons that
night but the most major one was probably that despite all the chaos, everything will
be okay in the end even if it doesn t seem that way in the
The United States And Native Americans Essay
The history between Native Americans and Americans is harsh. Native Americans
have been pushed off of their land by Americans and put into smaller reservations.
The united states have enforced a number of treaties trying to better the relationship
but it has oppressed Natives. Recently the united states were plaining to build an oil
pipeline that would run through native land and the native Americans did not want
the pipeline to be built. So this created more tension between the two. History of
Treaties between the United States and Native Americans From the year of 1778
until about 100 years later in 1871, the United States government has been trying to
lower the tension and heal their relationship with many Native Tribes by making
treaties. Throughout the hundreds of years and hundreds of treaties that were
negotiated between the two nations of the U.S. and the Native American nation .
Basically the treaties were to make the Native Americans citizens of their tribes
while living in the U.S. boundaries. Through these treaties being made the Native
Americans basically gave up all there rights from hunting, to living on parcels of the
land and trading goods. But the United States did not take all of the land away they
gave them small amounts of land to use for tribe use Thomas Jefferson saw that the
white settlers wanted the land and would be difficult to give white settlers land if the
Native Americans continued their current way of life. Thomas Jefferson in 1803,

An American Soldier in World War I
An American Soldier in World War I is written by Liberty professor David L.
Snead. It tells the story of a soldier and his fiancГ© relationship through World War
I through letters they wrote one another. Professor Snead was introduced to the
letters by a student of his Page Waugh. They were letters from her uncle to her aunt
and with permission from her family he combines the letters and historical context
to write a book about Browne, Marty and the war. The thesis of this book seems to
be seeing the war through the eyes of a soldier in the middle of a vicious war and the
relationship that sees him through it. George Browne and Martha Marty Johnson are

Browne writes less but his letters are much more descriptive of deficiencies in the

than the boat trip. According to the author, The boat was heaven compared to the

(Snead 2006, 38) In chapter 3 Browne talks a lot about the battles the group is now
fighting and the woes or war. But also in this chapter he speaks of the war and the
distance from Marty and how he feels like something is different in their
relationship. Browne knows the infrequency of letters and not quickly responding

In effect, the model shows at the macro level how personal knowledge is converted
into organizational knowledge, and vice versa, in processes for active and continuous
organizational learning. The fourth section discusses some key challenges in
managing each of the five learning cycles so that active learning processes are
maintained at the individual, group, or organizational levels. I also suggest some
ways in which managers can help to prevent breakdowns and dysfunctions from
occurring in each of the Five Learning Cycles, and thereby help to sustain overall
organizational learning processes. Examples drawn from recent research into
knowledge management practices help to illustrate the nature of such managerial
interventions. I conclude with some comments on the ways in which the knowledge
management processes discussed here reflect a fundamental shift in management
thinking and practice from traditional concepts of command and control to more
contemporary concepts of facilitation and empowerment.

Nursing Shortage In Nursing
How nervous and worried should one patient be when he or she presses the call
button for a nurse and they don t show up for an hour? Nurses are becoming
worried because of their departments are very understaffed and are scared that their
patients are in danger. I conducted an interview with Jeanne Kenndey from Ivinson
hospital in Laramie Wyoming, and she stated; we really short staffed and we can t
schedule for the Acuity and the amount of patients we get so we just have to work
with what we have and hope for the best so it s really unpredictable of how we are
going to be able to take care of people She described to me why it was this way;
yesterday was really hard we were really busy you were short staffed and we had a
bunch of sick patients that if anything had gone wrong it could have been really bad
Even in small towns being short staffed is becoming an issue and every nurseis scared
that their department will fail in an attempt to save everyone. In a study ran by
multiple individuals who have their PHD such as; Linda H Aikens, PHD, RN; they
found that in the hospital setting every 100 patients who died where with nurses who
were assigned 4 patients, but 131 patients died when nurses were assigned 8 patients.
(https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/195438) Nursing shortageis a scary
idea for everyone, but it has been a well known problem to America for the past
couple of years. The shortage has resulted from a number of factors but the main one

Reflection About Racism
In my personal experience, racism is a multi cultural mindset that appears to be based
on anything and everything. Fearing what is different is a human condition and until
we can free our minds from the fear, it will continue to be problematic. Although our
country has a very splattered belief of racism, we can change the way we view
ethnicity, skin color, or religious beliefs, there is a strong inevitability of the world
repeating history and war will supervene again.
Recently I had the opportunity to hear a recording of a general from an air force
base academy announcing he has a better idea than showing racial diversity
discrimination and proclaimed a civil discourse, his message is simple, but powerful;
If you can t treat someone with dignity and respect then you need to get out . Nothing
is that simple!
Let s subtract the white majority for a moment and say blacks are the majority
population. Would it end there or would the next minorityculture revolt against the
majority? I would be naГЇve to think that love and peace would fall across the land
nor will it ever. Racism is very much alive and present in our world. If you want
change in your life; what do you do? With a lot of hard work and dedication, you
can change your life and the power to do so is in you. Despite your culture, ethnicity,
race, gender, and economic standing; I have a better idea! New ideas are vastly
different than Can t we all just get along and very complex, so try to follow along
cause it s about to get real sticky on this paper.
First and far most, we need to have our minority NBA, NFL, MLB, etc. players and
management reach out to the urban areas even more so where the children are
growing up in poverty and economically challenged areas. Our society needs the
professionals of today that are minorities to stand up and proclaim their diversity and
use it in a fashion that will infect the minds of these areas to change. The minds need
to open to a larger perspective and an opportunity to do so.
Education needs to be our forefront to begin this extensive revolution. With more
minorities getting an education, we will then in turn have more minorities that are
educated and aspire to continue their education and thus become a

Myth Of Meritocracy
Is the myth of meritocracy more prevalent for minorities?
The myth of meritocracy has been proven true in multiply sources. Studies have
hypothesized this before when relating to upward mobility. Upward mobility in the
last forty years has been more and more unlikely for years and years now. Factors
like race, socioeconomic status, household makeup, and economic conditions of this
country play a big role. I will go more indepth about this study by showing more facts
in the following paragraphs.
The American dream for years has been see known to be something that anybody
can achieve with hard work through all obstacles. For most of Americans,
especially minorities, this does not occur. The notion that working hard will get you
somewhere with your merits does not face up to the statistics. But despite all these
statistics, facts, and evidence, people, usually minority, aspose these talking points
non stop. Matter of fact, the average person has a little chance of mobility or stay in
the same socioeconomic class. In my own personal life, I have yet to achieve the
American dream. My own parents have are janitors and grew up in poverty. You can
say that they themselves are clear example of the difficulty of achieving success
solely on meritocracy. Now you might ask what is your definition of the American
dream? For me, the American dream is about owning a home, having enough money
to not struggle to buy food, clothing, and decent water for not only me but my
wonderful family as

Compare And Contrast City Lights To Monty Python And
The...
Charlie Chaplin directed and starred in his legendary film, City Lights. This film
was released in 1931, three years after the release of the first film that included
audible dialogue, however, the lack of dialogue did not get in Chaplin s way as he
produced one of the most well known American comedies. A little over four
decades later, another great comedy was produced by the famous comedy group
Monty Pythons, which consisted of five British men, Graham Chapman, John
Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin, and one American animator, Terry
Gilliam. Monty Python and the Holy Grail was released in 1975 and has forever left
its mark on comedy. When comparing the comedic aspects of Charlie Chaplin s City
Lightsto Monty Python and the Holy Grail three overarching comedic concepts that
differ and evolve as time passes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These concepts include the main medium by which the comedy is portrayed in each
film, the types of comedy used, and how the views of what is and is not funny
changed.
The medium by which the comedy within these two movies is portrayed is almost
as diverse as the movies themselves. The comedy found in City Lights is for the
most part portrayed through the use of visual tactics. The most obvious difference
between the two movies is the incorporation or lack thereof of dialogue. City Lights
can be watched and completely understood with the sound turned off, which is a
quality Monty Python and the Holy Grail does not have. If someone tried to watch
Monty Python and the Holy Grail without the sound on they would be confused
within the first few seconds of the first scene. Sound plays an important role in Monty

Stereotypes In Friday Night Lights, By Buzz Bissinger
Many movies, tv shows, and books about high school have depicted football as the
main focus. In the majority of these forms of entertainment, the high school football
players are seen as ginormous, ignoramus, fools. Buzz Bissinger portrays these
stereotypes all throughout his book Friday Night Lights. Though these depictions
may be true in some cases, playing American high schoolfootballneither limits
academic success nor future success in life. Bissinger addresses this topic through
two characters; Boobie Miles and Bryan Chavez. Boobie Miles being a stereotypical
unintelligent jock and Bryan Chavez being an academically inclined individual who
is also on the football team.
Boobie Miles is most definitely challenged academically yet football
Intended Conversion to Christianity in Flannery O Conner
s...
I think that Flannery O Connor s short story A Good Man is Hard to Find is written
partially in order to convert people who have not yet fully accepted the Christian
faith. O Conner, having a strong upbringing and solid Christian background, wrote
this story believing it would help people who do not have a strong moral base and
Christian convictions to seriously making the necessary changes. Flannery O Connor
showed deep concern towards the value system of the youth at the time. She firmly
believed in helping to guide the youth in a positive direction. Her belief that Christ
was no longer a major priority to the people of her generation was a driving
motivation. A Good Man is Hard to Findshows Flannery O Connor s concern for the

Her characters never seem to find their redemption until they find God at the end.
People of Christian faith have often criticized O Connor s works for being
immoral, but in actuality, she writes about these extreme situations and portrayals
of wrongdoing to express the power of God in a positive light. O Connor both
gracefully and skillfully shows the immoral character of the Misfit as well as the
enlightened character of the grandmother. The characters in A Good Man is Hard
to Find evolve through a sort of metamorphosis. There are changes that occur in
their views of the world and their perceptions about life and death. In this body of
work, we see those changes occur in the Grandmother and in the Misfit. The Misfit
is shown to be constantly experiencing a deep inner struggle with his own
convictions. We see this clearly in his conversation with the Grandmother. O
Conner s skillful portrayal of the Misfit helps the reader to detect some obscure
details of his behavior. These details, his gestures, his speech, and his thoughts are
key elements in determining the Misfit s state of mind. We see the grandmother
become timid over the course of the story. She seems to have some type of identity
crisis. Starting off bold and confident, we see the Grandmother very humble and
timid by the end. Her ideas of what she should look like and how she should talk no
longer mattered. O Connor also shows that the Grandmother s idea of a southern

The trans Saharan trade network changed Northern and Western Africa from an
isolated hunting gathering society to a major trade center that boasted economic and
political power headed by Islamic empires and city states.
Hunting or gathering societies were the oldest form of social organization in the

groups took the place of rulers and were known as stateless societies. Africa grew
from these nomadic societies to a major trade center known as the trans Saharan
Trade Center. Islam played a vital role as many rulers converted to Isalm. Empires

The Pigman Quotes
True Friends and The Broken Hearted: The Pigman Paul Zindel A wise man once
said, The greatest healing therapy is friendship and love, (Hubert H. Humphrey,
Brainy Quotes). John and Lorraine, sophomores and the narrators of Paul Zindel s
The Pigman are great friends to the aging and lonely Angelo Pignati. What started
off as a prank call, turned into a rewarding friendship and ended in the tragic death
of Mr. Pignati. It can be proven that John and Lorraine are in no way responsible for
this death. Their friendship, Mr. Pignati s poor health and his emotional instability
prove this is true.
The first reason that demonstrates that John and Lorraine are not to blame is that
they are Mr. Pignati s friends and they try to help him. On page ... Show more content

Pignati is not healthy. The reader assumes that he dies of a heart attack or heart
failure, after having heart trouble earlier in the book I knew it was a heart attack...
and in the manner he dies, the Pigman dropped to the floor (111, 158). He is
described to be in his late fifties and was pretty big, and he had a bit of a beer
stomach, when John and Lorraine first see him (35). Obesity and age are risk
factors that can lead to heart attacks; according to the Mayo Clinic men age 45 and
older...are more likely to have a heart attack and obesity is linked to other risk
factors such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Mr. Pignati could have a
condition called takotsubo cardiomyopathy or broken heart syndrome, caused by
an emotionally taxing event, such as loss. Broken heart syndrome is a dangerous
condition that is sometimes mistaken as a heart attack. When Mr. Pignati talks
about Conchetta, he is clearly distressed, We loved each other... into sobs (see
page 103 for entire quote). This quote shows just how much he misses her and his
grief, one could even go on to say that he is depressed. Depression and a negative
state of mental health are also closely linked to heart disease. If Mr. Pignati is
already at risk for heart disease, before he meets John and Lorraine, and might have a
heart condition, how can we blame them for his

Example Of 5 Paragraph Essay

  • 1. Example Of 5 Paragraph Essay Writing an essay, especially one that adheres to the traditional 5-paragraph structure, may initially seem like a straightforward task. However, delving into the process reveals its inherent challenges. Crafting a coherent and compelling essay requires more than just stringing words together; it demands thoughtful organization, a clear thesis statement, and a well-structured argument. Firstly, formulating a concise yet comprehensive thesis statement can be a daunting task. This single sentence serves as the backbone of the entire essay, encapsulating the main idea and setting the tone for the subsequent paragraphs. Ensuring that the thesis is not only clear but also engaging can be a delicate balance. The next hurdle involves organizing ideas into a coherent structure. Each paragraph must seamlessly transition into the next, creating a logical flow of information. Maintaining this cohesion while adequately developing each point requires careful planning and revising. The challenge lies in presenting a well-rounded argument within the confines of each paragraph without sacrificing depth or clarity. Furthermore, selecting appropriate evidence to support the thesis poses its own set of difficulties. The evidence must be relevant, compelling, and seamlessly integrated into the essay. Balancing the need for specificity with the broader argument requires a keen understanding of the topic and an ability to discern the most impactful supporting details. Another aspect that can complicate the writing process is ensuring that the essay remains focused and does not deviate from its central theme. Tangential discussions can dilute the impact of the main argument, making it crucial for the writer to stay vigilant in maintaining relevance throughout. In conclusion, crafting a 5-paragraph essay is not as straightforward as it may initially appear. The writer must navigate challenges such as formulating a strong thesis, organizing ideas coherently, selecting impactful evidence, and maintaining focus. Successfully overcoming these hurdles results in an essay that not only meets the structural requirements but also engages and persuades the reader. For those who find themselves struggling with such tasks, it's worth noting that assistance is available. Similar essays and much more can be ordered on HelpWriting.net, where professional writers can provide support in tackling the complexities of essay writing. Mr. Thomas was giving empathy and authenticity in which the social worker made efforts so he could get better but he has not adjusted to his negative thoughts that causes him to feel tied, restless and tense. A fist of an orange and blood red flame punches its way out of the shell, smoke and varicolored fire rushing out, while the corpses of innocent lives, lay on the cold stone ground helplessly, paying the insolent price of conformity. For every tick of the bomb, a defenseless and innocent life is sacrificed. There is only a transient amount of time we have to defuse the bomb, until it explodes, obliterating society as whole. In Catch 22, Joseph Heller unveils the idea of corruption in war and militarysystems and how one must never conform to flawed ideas and rules because if we are against any type of moral, idea, or rule, and we sit back, observing the issue, nothing in this world will ever change, allowing corruption to consume us, bit by bit, just like a bomb. Tick, Tick, Tick... Slowly the death black bomb burns due to the absence of decisive action being taken towards ending the flawed system of promotions to the bureaucracy and the distribution of medals to gullible soldiers, in order to veil their corrupt set of demands and their unreliable hierarchical status, when they, the soldiers, should be attempting to put an end to it, in order to make it out of the war alive. Due to the fact that the United States has been involved in multiple wars means that thousands of airliner pilots have been forced into military service. Why? These pilots were on inactive duty service. When America went to war, these individuals were called upon to serve the country. Once finished with their service, these individuals have a hard time retrieving the same paygrade status prior to service. One particular court case stands out from the rest of the group. In Derlyn E. Moe v. The plaintiff supported his case by introducing the Universal Military Training and Service Act which basically states that his employment and paygrade status will be what it is suppose to be if he had continuously worked for the airliner and had not served the Armed Forces. The defendant, Eastern Airliner, claims that in order to receive senior paygrade status, one must complete the one year probationary period which Moe did not complete. The case was directly issued to the respective District Court of Appeals (Fifth Circuit) so no lower form of court ruling is presented. When presented with the case, the judge at the time had to answer three questions. Does the court have the correct jurisdiction over this

Chaucer demonstrates this idea in The Canterbury Tales, specifically with the Merchant character. The Merchant s entire personality is later revealed in his Prologue and Tale, as it is made evident of his cynical and pessimistic outlook, making him less respectful. The General Prologue does not include the personal problems he is facing, as introducing a completely different character is more surprising and unexpected to the reader (Brown 141). The Merchant s unhappiness and cynical view of marriage is introduced in his Prologue and emphasized in his Tale and Epilogue, as he attempts to inform others how marriage is extremely difficult. It is evident that the Merchant is having an emotional crisis (Kittredge 450), especially after the Clerk s tale about a patient wife. The Merchant finally reveals his true character, as he explains his unhappiness with his new marriage, which has only lasted two months so far, and the Prologue and tale are joined by a common pattern of imagery in which the language of binding, tapping, and imprisonment describes the effect of marriage on the once free spirit of the husband (Brown 144). Dickinson repeats certain words in a rhythmic pacing to highlight what she feels. She constructs images of a funeral with mourners to and fro. The aggregates can be obtained from natural sources with the correct grading or from quarries where crushed aggregates are processed. Quarry is usually the main source of aggregates for asphalt mixtures. Bitumen can also be obtained from natural sources, but these natural sources are only available in certain countries. Cold mix asphalt is mainly used for maintenance purposes like pothole repair due to its essay workability, and low production cost. Cold mix asphalt is used more in colder countries where it is not always possible to use warm mix asphalts for maintenance due to the rapid cooling of these warm products at cold temperatures. Warm Mix Asphalt Warm mix asphalt should not be confused with hot mix asphalt. The name hot or warm mix asphalt is dependent on the temperature at which the asphalt is manufactured. Hot mix asphalt is manufactured at temperatures ranging from 150 175 degrees celsius and mainly used for paving on highways. Warm mix asphalt is manufactured at temperatures ranging from 90 120 degrees celsius. Due to the lower manufacturing temperature of warm mix asphalt it uses less energy per ton to produce. Therefor it is cheaper to produce warm mix asphalt. Additional binding materials and additives like wax and emulsions are added to soften the product thus making it easier to spread at low temperatures. Due to the fact that warm mix asphalt is more workable at lower temperatures than hot mix asphalts it can be

While this book is not an in depth analysis, it does provide a brief overview of why the author believes that business can be and should be used to glorify God. In the book, the author starts off by posing the question of whether or not business itself is good or evil. Of course, business by itself is neither good nor evil it is the people involved in the business that make it what it is. A person s morals and ethics will shape how their business operates, whether for good or ill. If we use our business to show people the glory of God, than our business is doing good for the... While this is true in a sense I agree with the author when he says that God created us with a desire to own things so that we could imitate his sovereignty that way. Another article I read concerning property ownership says, Those who wish to deny private property, and thus, the biblical mandate of stewardship, fail to recognize God s order for society (Demar, 2010). When God made us He gave charge over the Earth and everything in it and having been given charge of it we assume ownership of it until we leave it. The example that I have heard a lot for this is the parable of the unfaithful steward. In this parable, a nobleman left the country to receive a kingdom for himself, leaving ten of his servants each with a mina to look after while he was gone. While the other servants did something to increase the possessions they were given one hid it so it would be safe. When the nobleman returns and discovers this he takes the mina from the poor steward and gives it to another. This infers ownership of the mina that each servant was given because he takes what the one steward has and gives it to another. He doesn t keep it because the charge of it has been given over to the servants. Insights like these in the Bible help to prove the fact of personal ownership. The second aspect that the author discussed that I agree with is that of

Martha and Lewis Hale assist Sheriff Peters and his wife, Mrs. Peters, with investigating the scene of the crime. Throughout the story, women notice significance in their findings, of which the men overlook. The men have a dismissive attitude towards the women, ignoring their contributions. When the women solve the crime in the end, they do not inform the men of the evidence found, which prevents any conviction. In her short story, A Jury of Her Peers , Susan Glaspell conveys a feminist theme of women being oppressed under male domination and genderroles. She expresses this through the use of irony, symbolism, and characterization. First, Glaspell makes effective use of irony to display the oppression of women and gender roles. During this time period, women had little to no power and they were considered unintelligent only being able to cook, clean, sew, et cetera. While investigating the scene, the men belittle the women, deeming them to be too unintelligent to provide anything practical to the investigation. Mr. Hale declared, Would the women know a clue if they did come upon it? (Glaspell 370). This statement is ironic, because in the end of the story, the women are the ones who discover the clues that lead them to solving the crime, not the men. Not only do the women
  • 26. United States Involvement in World War II Essay The United State s direct involvement in World War II officially began as soon as the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. Prior to that event, America had been providing arms and equipment to England but stopped short of any direct military confrontation with the Axis. The War in the Pacific was considered Asia s War and the European War was considered a local conflict. US Japanese relations had become strained in 1941, though America felt secure that her naval fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was powerful enough to discourage any aggression from Japan. On July 24, 1941, Japan occupied French Indo China (Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos). Two days after that, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt froze all Japanese assets in the United States. The American proposals included the following principals: respect for the territory and sovereignty of all nations, no interference in the internal affairs of other countries, equal opportunity, and support for the status quo in the Pacific by peaceful means. Secretary Hull promised to free Japanese assets and resume normal trade with Japan if these conditions were met. The Japanese asked for two weeks to consider the proposals and by November 26 the aircraft carrier force that attacked Pearl Harbor was already deployed for that task. American intelligence was expecting a large attack by Japan but believed that it would take place in the Philippines or Southeast Asia. President Tojo of Japan warned the U.S. and England on November 29 that British and American influence in Asia must be eliminated. Japan officially rejected the Hull proposals on December 1 and on December 6, President Roosevelt personally appealed to Emperor Hirohito to pursue peace and withdraw from Indo China. Early on Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, Japanese air and sea forces made a sneak attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, a naval base of the United States. Simultaneously, Japan launched attacks on the Philippines, Guam, and Midway Island and against British forces in Hong Kong and the Malay Peninsula. There were eight battleships at pearl Harbor. The Arizona, California and Utah were sunk. The Nevada was grounded,

Jeanne D Arc Vs Moral Letters To Lucilius On the surface, the primary sources; The Trial of Jeanne d Arc , that took place in 1431, and Moral Letters to Lucilius written by Seneca in AD 65, may not seem like they have much in common. However, there are a few connections between the two primary sources. Jeanne D arc is being tried for heresy, claiming that St. Michael and St. Catherine visit her to guide her religious endeavors. In letter number forty one of, Moral Letters to Lucilius , Seneca speaks on the Godwithin us and the sacred mind. Jeanne D arc s full conformity to God directly contrasts with Seneca s philosophyof the sacred mind. These two primary sources are connected by Jeanne D arc s claims that Saints visit her to dictate her actions and the corresponding philosophies brought forward by Seneca. In Letter forty one, titled On the God within us , Seneca discusses Stoic physics and the concept of God and the Holy Spirit within human souls. Since their implementation into the battlefield, it has been realized that these taboo weapons are ones to be feared. Responsible for an extravagant amount of deaths over the past eighty years, chemical, biological, and nuclear threats are not to take lightly. A nuclear weaponis an explosive device designed to derive its destructive explosion via nuclear fission, nuclear fusion, or a combination of the two processes . The implementation of nuclear weapons was a Figure 1) serious game changer, and gave the upper hand to the more technologically advanced countries because of the scientific efforts that go into developing these weapons, making the possession of nuclear weapons a more apt problem for nations themselves, rather than non state actors, such as terrorist groups. As shown in Figure 1, there has been a general steady decrease of the amount of nuclear weapons held by the United States. This is where chemical and biological weapons differ from nuclear weapons. Over the past years, chemical and biological weapons have seen more action, and this can be attested to the significant difference in developing these weapons. Because chemical and biological weapons are so easily acquired, it is more likely to see them being used by terrorist groups rather than nations themselves. Because of the potential threats and easy obtainment of biological weapons, they are potentially the

Fearing what is different is a human condition and until we can free our minds from the fear, it will continue to be problematic. Although our country has a very splattered belief of racism, we can change the way we view ethnicity, skin color, or religious beliefs, there is a strong inevitability of the world repeating history and war will supervene again. Recently I had the opportunity to hear a recording of a general from an air force base academy announcing he has a better idea than showing racial diversity discrimination and proclaimed a civil discourse, his message is simple, but powerful; If you can t treat someone with dignity and respect then you need to get out . Nothing is that simple! Let s subtract the white majority for a moment and say blacks are the majority population. Would it end there or would the next minorityculture revolt against the majority? I would be naГЇve to think that love and peace would fall across the land nor will it ever. Racism is very much alive and present in our world. If you want change in your life; what do you do?
