POST-MODERNISM
POST-MODRNISM
•It began after the 2nd world war.
•That was developed in mid-to-late 20th century across
philosophy, arts, architecture and criticism.
•This movement came into being after the modernism age.
WHAT IS MODERNISM?
IDEAS:
1. Post-modernism denies the possibility of truth.
2. Post- modernism denies morality.
3. Post-modernism affirms relativism, but doesn’t
anchoring of the social values in the truth.
SOME (IN)FAMOUS
“POST-MODERNISTS”
JEAN BAUDRILLARD:
“Hyper –reality and simulations/simulacra”
JEAN-FRANÇOIS LYOTARD
“We live in a world
where there is more
and more information,
and less and less
meaning.”
“THE POST-MODERNISM CONDITION: A
REPORT ON KNOWLEDGE”
“Simplifying to the extreme, I define post-modern
as incredulity towards meta-narratives”
SIMULARICA & SIMULATION
Simulation
The process in which a representation of something comes to replace the
thing which is actually being represented.
The representation then becomes more important than “the real thing”.
Simulacra
When a sign loses its relation to reality, it then begins to simulate a
simulation.
Hyper reality
Division between "real" and simulation has collapsed, therefore an illusion
of an object is no longer possible because the real object is no longer
there.
