International students and the internationalisation of UK universities University of Limerick
UK universities have a long history of educating students from around the world. But in an era of globalisation, it has become increasingly recognised that the role of universities is to prepare all its students to succeed in a world where goods, services, labour and capital move freely across borders. This presentation explores the ways that UK universities are increasingly placing internationalisation at the heart of their curriculum and the importance of having an internationally diverse student body to achieving this goal.
Over the past 30 years, Singapore has established a reputation as a centre of educational excellence, in terms of the quality of local and international institutions located here, as well as its attraction to international students as part of the Global Schoolhouse initiative.
At East Asia Institute of Management (EASB), we are proud to be part of this development in attracting international students.
EASB had its genesis in 1984 as Informatics Software providing professional and vocational training in information technology. The company was restructured in 2001 to offer academic degree programmes and renamed East Asia School of Business (where its logo "EASB" was derived. Even after it was upgraded into East Asia Institute of Management it kept "EASB" as its logo. Consistent with our founding vision to be a world-class educational institution, we put in place, at the onset, robust structures, systems and processes, and established both the Academic Board and the Examination Board to ensure academic rigor of our programmes and integrity of our examination system.
Over the years, EASB continues to grow from strength to strength. Today, we are one of the leading Private Education Institutions (PEIs) in Singapore, offering a comprehensive suite of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across major disciplines. In addition to our Diploma and Advanced Diploma programmes, we collaborated with 4 universities from UK – Queen Margaret University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Herriot-Watt University and Aston University to offer Bachelor's and Master's Degree Programmes. Our range of programmes include those in Hospitality & Tourism Management, Business Management, Accounting, Finance, Business Information Systems, Marketing, Medical Bioscience, Real Estate Management, Psychology, and many more.
With the inception of the Council for Private Education under the Private Education Act in December 2009, EASB was among the first batch of few PEIs to be awarded the inaugural 4-year Edutrust certification. It had successfully renewed both the ERF and EduTrust Certificationin 2014 and more recently in May 2018.
If you have the aspiration to succeed, your learning journey with us could be a fruitful and enriching experience. We are confident that the transnational and employability-centered education you receive at EASB will equip you with the 4Cs for professional success – i.e. to become a graduate who is Competent, Confident, Creative and Committed.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Editor's Notes
Good morning and welcome to the Glion postgraduate program Webinar!
My name is Lucie and I’m the moderator for this session.
This session will cover different points as such as an overview of our school, the hospitality industry and an overview of our Postgraduate programs.
Then, our current students enrolled in the postgraduate program will give you more insights of how it is going so far for them.
Finally, we will give you some information about the application process.
Now I let Mrs Georgette Davey postgraduate program leader give you more details about our school and our post graduate programs.
Good morning! My name is Georgette Davey, I hope that everyone is doing great...
Lucie: Who is this program made for?
Georgette: Well, this program is for two different audience....
Glion Institute of Higher Education is comprised of two campuses, one in Glion overloooking Lake Geneva and above the famous town of Montreux. This campus is dedicated to the beginning of the studies where students will do their craft-based learning.
The second campus is in Bulle in the « Canton of Fribourg » at about 30 minutes drive from the Glion Campus. Bulle campus is dedicated to advanced studies and functions more like a university where students are more independent.
IMPORTANT: Depending which semester you start, you might be either on bulle or glion campus....

When considering an education, there are 4 questions you should ask yourself.
The 1st one is about accreditation. Is the university you are considering accredited, hence will your degree be recognized internationally.
The 2nd question you should ask yourself is related to the professional world and the industry. Does the industry value and recognize the graduate of the industry.
The 3rd question is about internationalism of the school. How international is the student body and why is it important to be in an international environment.
The last question is about internship and career. Do recruiters come to the university and who comes? Where do students go and what do they do.
So now we are going to look at each of these questions and provide you some answers and tips to look at.
So let’s look at the first one which is accreditation and its importance
Glion is accredited at university level by the Commission on Institution of Higher Education of the New England Association of Schools and colleges in the USA.
There are only 3 schools accredited by NEASC up to the degree level in Switzerland: Glion, Les Roches and Lausanne. Other schools also accredited by NEASC such as SHMS / HIM are only accredited at non degree level which means up to associate degree or Diploma.
Having the right level of accreditation by a world class accrediting body insures the quality of what our students are learning and where and how they are taught. It serves as a protection for students and parents as to the level and quality of education we are offering and allows transfer to and from other accredited universities.
NEASC is also the same accrediting body of other prestigious and ivy leagues in the USA such as Harvard & MIT
Let’s now look at the industry, and how they value our school.
Large industry and a lot of career opportunities
Grows of 4.4% between 2010 and 2020

2 main tracks
- Do they choose their modules as a tailor made program?
- How the craft based learning is divided between semesters and what are they doing?

Each semester, we have over 30 international hotel chains, luxury hotels and resorts, event management companies, financial establishments and recruiting agencies come to recruit our students, whether for internships and / or permanent positions.
The companies you see on the screen are companies that have come or will come during this semester including top international hotel chains such as Accor, Fours seasons, InterContinental, Fairmont, the Peninsula Group, Luxury Resorts & Hotels Group in the USA and Carribean, Starwood hotels which includes Sheraton, Le Méridien, Westin, St-Regis and other hotels. Hyatt International, marriott Hotel as well as the group Rezidor which includes Radisson SAS, Country Inn, Missoni, Park Inn and the Regent Hotels regularly come to our school to recruit students.
With our event, sport and Entertainment, we have for example iluka which is an event company highly involved in the next Beijing games which come to Glion to recruit young talents as well as Disney.
Financial establishment such as private banks are also recruiting our students in the financial track as they particularly appreciate their professional attitude, motivation and their service oriented mind.
.
To illustrate the success companies have in finding motivated professionals and how successful our students are in securing a job upon graduation, students have an average of 4 job offers which results in 94% of our students already with a contract signed or with several offers to choose from and this on graduation day.
This shows that the industry does have many job opportunities to offer to our students and that our students are fully employable and do have a job when they graduate. Unfortunately this is not the case for many other type of education for which it can be very difficult to obtain a job upon graduation.
.
