• Gauntlet’s Empowered Female Theory: We can tell the 
female is empowered through the amount of flesh her 
costume allows her to show off. This connotes her 
confidence and self satisfaction in her body, brought 
through the shaping working out has awarded her with. 
• Laura Mulvey’s Male Gaze: The female is shown in the 
male gaze through her choice in costume, showing her 
body off by her tight fit bra and short cut shorts. 
Although this product isn’t aimed at males, this is used 
to attract females into wanting to look as fit as her.
The ‘#’ connotes the social media reference used to create trends on site Instagram and 
Twitter. This connotes the trend that has become of working out and having a good 
body. The bold, capitalised text connotes the confidence of women who abide by this 
lifestyle. It connotes the loss of shame associated with body image and a new found self-esteem 
connoting their pride with their healthier bodies.
• We can apply the hypodermic syringe theory here, 
highlighted by our mid income bracket younger 
demographic, connoting the possibility for media products 
to inject preferred ideologies onto the audience. It can be 
said that here through the use of our bold text, we inject the 
ideology that being fit and healthy is the best way of life. 
• Through the use of our tagline however, we reject this 
theory through the question we ask to our audience. The 
glow we used to highlight the tagline connotes its overriding 
importance over the title, suggesting the title marks the 
craze now associated with becoming fit whereas the tagline 
reminds our audience of how necessary it is to remain level 
headed when working out.
We can also apply the hypodermic syringe theory to 
the critics reviews which we include. It can be said that 
this is done due to us wanting to persuade the 
audience to watch the product our poster advertises. 
• The background images 
further connote the social 
media topic. The Instagram 
feed ensures our audiences 
receive personal identity 
according to instant 
gratifications, as the 17-25 
digital native demographic 
have a particular interest in 
the use of Web 2.0 accessible 
on their converged devices.
Colour Scheme 
• The pink attracts our young female target audience, as 
well as connoting the passion and excitement that 
comes with working out to achieve your dream body. 
• The green connotes health, highlighting the positive 
benefits working out can bring to a person’s mind and 
body.
