2. Social Grouping Audience
Our product is mostly targeted at females aged 16 to 24 years old. We decided to
explore social group ideas about femininity and ethnicity. We decided to explore these
because there are some aspects represented that we don’t agree with in the media.; the
idea how they portray ‘ideal’ and ‘perfect’ people because of their physical attributes.
Especially how women are represented, there is always something about ‘curvy’
women seen as a ‘perfect’ woman.
3. Having a niche audience suggest that we are able to fill the needs to identify their
preferences; we made a plot for our intended audience to be able to enjoy and relate to
it. Coincidentally, most of part of our audience were followers of celebrity lifestyles
and also watches reality TV shows like Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The idea
that insecurity can be affected or influenced by some aspects of the media, therefore
we think that it is important to combine these themes to our product. The young
female characters in our product is represented as a normal female that lives a fairly
standard lifestyle and it could perhaps attract our niche audience as it provides a
greater sense of realism and allows the audience to relate to these ideas.
4. Blumler and Katz’s Theory
We applied the aspects of Blumler and Katz’s theory to an extent. The idea that we use
gratifications to our product; our target audience are given the ability to assume an
active role when when watching our product, interpreting themes and messages
extracted to their lives. Our product also offered alternate perspectives and outcomes
to relatable situations. About Dyer’s Utopian Solutions, although our product doesn’t
really provide audiences with gratifications that allows escapism but it inform and
bring awareness to them.
