POSTER RESEARCH
Lara Roberts
I have picked ‘Breaking Bad’ as an example for my
research because it’s a hybrid of a Thriller, Drama
and a crime and my show involves all of them
genres. I have chosen this poster because it
includes conventions of the show that will be
included in to my own poster. My TV show ‘Meet
the Stewarts’ link with ‘Breaking Bad’ because the
both include the crime murder in them. The main
conventions is this poster that will in inherited in my
own are the use of dark colours such as grey and
black. Also on the poster the yellow stands out the
most and in my own poster I will be focusing on
making the colour red stand out. Also my poster will
include a weapon that is used in the TV such as a
knife. My poster will also include a tag ling that links
in with my idea, so from this poster I really like the
way they make three words stand out to draw the
reader in such as ‘Unstable. Volatile. Dangerous.’
I have also chosen the ‘Sherlock’ poster
to focus on to get ideas because it also
is a hybrid TV Drama and my show has
aspects of all the three genres in it. I also
like the use of minimalism on this poster
by just using the protagonist face
showing no emotion as the poster. The
protagonist in my TV Drama is very
mysterious and doesn’t show many
emotions so I like the idea of using this
as one of my ideas.
This TV show relates to my own idea
because I looked at the trailer for
‘Psycho’ which ‘Bates Motel’ is based
one. The main protagonist in ‘Bates
Motel’ is mysterious and has a weird
relationship with his mum. This poster
could relate to my own because my
show doesn’t include many characters
and is mostly included in one room is the
house which links in with his poster.
I have picked ‘Boardchurch’ to focus on to
help me think of my own idea for my poster
because it’s about crime and this poster
shows conventions to make it obvious to the
audience what the genre is. I think this
poster relates to my programme the most
because the poster shows two detectives
with police tap so it’s obvious that the show
is a crime. The elements I will take from this
poster will be the crime conventions.
