Poster Inspirations and

Fight Club
• When searching for film poster that I liked I came cross this one. This is
for "Fight Club".
• I like this poster as instead of being a piece of photography it has been
edited (or created) to be a piece of art. This makes the idea of the film
less of a reality and the characters may not actually be living. The
narrative could be based in the characters minds so in order to gain a
more objective view of the film they used unrealistic drawings.
• The 2nd main protagonist is also smoking a cigaretteso to me it looks as
though it is the same character showing two different sides to him. The
dark shadowed image is the less dominant emotion, that I depict to be
negative through the use of low key lighting and careless facial
expressions. Showing two sides of the characters is good as the audience
get to see that there is dimension to the narrative and can get engrossed
into the idea of negativity vs positivity when watching the film and
teaser trailer.
• I have also picked up on the typography of the title, I like this as it looks
similar to chalk board handwriting. This sense of personality can makes
the audience feel more comfortable so when watching the film they
are willing to be more open. There is an instant sense of sympathy
being portrayed, which is what I want to do.
• Also I am going to take the layout into consideration for my piece as by
having all of the imagery in the middle, with a contrasting coloured
background attracts all of the audience's attention (which is essential for
marketing).
• The genre of this film is a drama so not directly similar to mine but I am
just exploring different ideas that I like.
Official vs My Recreation
Moonlight
• I chose this poster as distinct inspiration for my ideas as there is use of
different layers, which in this case are used to subvert stereotypical
representations. The main image is of a black male character which can
suggest an idea about racial tensions.
• The use of different layers can suggest that this boy is made up of more
than just 'rubbish' which was a common stereotype in this time period
(when researched further I found it was a historicallyset film about
racial tensions). Instead of dehumanizing this character based on his
ethnicity this poster design suggests he has more positive
representations (using the colour purple which has connotations of
creativity and stabilization),allowing an audience to be more open
minded.
• This is an idea that I could use, regarding different ideas but the same
concept. For my film, Mia Carter is accused for a murder that she didn’t
commit and she has 1 month to figure out the investigation and prove
her innocence in order to stay out of prison. The audience do not find
out she is innocent until near the middle of the film. By using different
layers and colour's on the poster could suggest 1; her innocence (colour
yellow having connotations of positivity), 2; her determination (colour
blue as it has connotations of ambition) and 3; her guilt (colour green
as it has connotations of clarity, finding out the truth).
•By using this layout suggests different character emotion and vulnerabilities which is something I want to show in film
"Suspect" by showing the contrast of Mia and the Police, how they have different opinions but are trying to figure out the
same crime.
•There are different alignments of the images on purpose suggesting 3 different people and their identities covered by 1
image on the outside.
•The creative and visual aspects behind this poster is what drew the attention to it. It uses 3 differentcolour's and shapes to
make up an image. I feel as though this could work with my piece effectively.
•Another idea for my film poster, in regards to this is the idea that: 1 character would be Mia, the second the police
officer, and the 3 would be Mia again. The police are inside of her suggesting that she could have done the crime. The
police officer will be the central character showing the importance of crime in the film.

BlackOut
• This is a foreign film, as identified through the
titles written in a different language.
• I love the layout of this piece as it is a silhouette
of what I assume to be the criminal through the
use of mise en scene (the prop of a gun he is
holding and the costume including the black
gloves he is wearing).
• The silhouette is made up of a lot of different
images of people in different situations which
can link to finding out about what I assume to be
a crime. The silhouette figure has serious facial
expressions that have indirect mode of address.
Having no connection with the audience can
connote a sense of guilt.
• I feel as though this looks interesting and gives a
lot of information visually and technically,
suggesting a lot of pressure and build up in one
character so the audience can begin to
sympathize.
Official vs My Recreation
For "suspect", my film I need a lot of sympathy to be built up in order for the audience to
connect with the film and its themes (idea of not only crime but family, trust and mental
strength). Without sympathy expressed in the poster the audiences response to Mia and the
actions that occur in the teaser trailer wouldn’t mean anything psychologically. I would
do something like this for my Poster by using low key lighting and using Mia as the figure and
the evidence as photos for the central secondary images, to allow a lot of information to be
portrayed secretively.
•The use of red and black are colour's that have connotations of crime and mystery so it will be
effective to use these as my main colour scheme.
Angus,Thongs andPerfect Snogging
• This film is a teen drama genre so the ideologies behind this
poster are different to what I would use but I like the idea that all
of the illustrations are her thoughts and some of the main
aspects to the narrative.
• This is different to all other poster I have seen as it is landscape
so there is a chance to give more information.
• There is a combination of photograph and illustrations on this
poster. The physical photograph is the main protagonist on the
poster, looking up (indirect mode of address) into the
illustrations which I depict to be her thoughts. The secondary
images of other protagonists lay amongst the drawings and the
use of proxemics here can show that all the characters in the
film have a close connection in some way (found out through
the teaser trailer to be through school in a small community).
• I like this idea as it shows the diversity of the film and the character. I, as an audience member have now found out that
this character is creative, young, bubbly, mature (all through the use of mise en scene- bright bold colour's and strong
performance in the position she is sitting in)
• Although I like this poster very much I feel as though there is no way to adapt it for a thriller genre film.
• However something I will take in is the bold typography, writtenin purple in contrast to the white background. The sans
serif font is one that I want to use in "Suspect".
