Salt cod with green cabbage and potatoes is traditionally eaten for Christmas Eve supper in Portugal instead of meat dishes. Other common fish dishes include octopus. For dessert, a King cake is placed in the center of the table, shaped like a crown and filled with dried fruits. It traditionally contains a broad bean and small gift; finding the bean means paying for next year's cake. Other popular Portuguese Christmas desserts include rice pudding, fried bread called "Rabanadas", dough balls called "Filhoses" deep fried and coated in cinnamon sugar, and "Christmas dreams", an orange flavored fried yeast dough dusted with powdered sugar. On Christmas day, roast turkey is typically served for lunch.
