2. Breakfast
A proper English breakfast consists of egg,
bacon, sausages, fried bread, mushrooms and
baked beans (very greasy and unhealthy).
However, most people usually eat cereal,
porridge or toast for breakfast most mornings.
Bacon sandwiches and sausage sandwiches are
also very popular. People love a good cup of tea
on a morning too!
3. Black Pudding
Black pudding looks like a black sausage.
It is made from dried pigs blood and fat
and is usually eaten at breakfast time
with an English breakfast. Fancy it?
4. Sunday Dinner
On a Sunday, most families eat a Sunday dinner of roast
beef and Yorkshire puddings with lots of different
vegetables.
Yorkshire puddings
Yorkshire puddings are not a dessert.
Yorkshire puddings, made from
flour, eggs and milk, are a sort of
batter baked in the oven. Gravy is
poured on top. Yummy!
5. Fish and Chips
Fish and chips is England's traditional take-away
food. It consists of fish (cod, haddock and plaice)
deep fried in flour batter with chips (fried
potatoes) dressed in vinegar and salt. They are
bought at a fish and chip shop ("chippie" ) and
there is always one near by, especially if you are
by the seaside.
6. Bangers and Mash
Bangers are sausages in England. The reason
they were nicknamed bangers is that during
wartime rationing they were so filled with water
they often exploded when they were fried.
Mash is potatoes with butter. Gravy is poured
over the top.
7. Bubble and Squeak
This is typically made from cold vegetables that have
been left over from our previous meals, often the
Sunday roast. The chief ingredients are potato and
cabbage, but we add carrots, peas, brussel sprouts, and
other vegetables. The cold chopped vegetables are fried
in a pan together with mashed potato until the mixture
is well-cooked and brown on the sides. The name is a
description of the action and sound made during the
cooking process.
8. Pies

10. Apple Pie and Apple Crumble

13. Jamie Oliver
Jamie Oliver is probably the most famous chef in Britain. He’s
famous for his cooking shows on British TV, but he is most famous
for improving school dinners in British schools. Jamie wasn’t happy
with what the children were eating for their lunch. He thought the
food needed to be healthier and fresh. He went into school and
taught cooks how to make healthy, tasty school dinners cheaply.
