Introduction
In the recent years, the federal government has adopted various strategies to ensure public administration. There have been constitutional amendments as well as legislative reforms that deal with state statutes. The government has revolutionized public administration through the delivery of justice and the enactment of rules and regulations. This paper is a reflective essay on three aspects of public administration that include sources of formal law, state legislation and evolution of state law.
There are several sources of formal law that can be applied in public administration. As learned in the week’s chapter, the constitution is the major organ that acts as a source of laws that govern the citizens of the United States. The constitution contains numerous laws that define the various sectors of the nation. According to Holzer and Schwester (2011), the federal government through the Congress undertakes constitutional amendments to ensure that laws that control the actions of people are enacted.
Through the study of the sources of formal laws, I gained immense cognitive knowledge on fundamental aspects of public administration. Moreover, I am now in a position to define the role of laws in the society and the impact the laws will have in the future generations.
During the week’s study, the content that was taught enabled the learners to improve on their knowledge of public administration. The workload was adequate for that particular period. The knowledge learned about public administration was broken into various stages that allowed the learners to understand each section fully. Preface
Our goal is to provide students with a textbook that is up to date and comprehensive in its coverage of
legal and regulatory issues—and organized to permit instructors to tailor the materials to their particular
approach. This book engages students by relating law to everyday events with which they are already
familiar (or with which they are familiarizing themselves in other business courses) and by its clear,
concise, and readable style. (An earlier business law text by authors Lieberman and Siedel was hailed “the
best written text in a very crowded field.”)
This textbook provides context and essential concepts across the entire range of legal issues with which
managers and business executives must grapple. The text provides the vocabulary and legal acumen
necessary for businesspeople to talk in an educated way to their customers, employees, suppliers,
government officials—and to their own lawyers.
Traditional publishers often create confusion among customers in the text selection process by offering a
huge array of publications. Once a text is selected, customers might still have to customize the text to meet
their needs. For example, publishers usually offer books that include either case summaries or excerpted
cases, but some instructors prefer to combine case summaries with a few excerpted cases so that students
can experience reading original material. Likewise, the manner in which most conventional texts
incorporate video is cumbersome because the videos are contained in a separate library, which makes
access more complicating for instructors and students.
This model eliminates the need for “families” of books (such as the ten Miller texts mentioned below) and
greatly simplifies text selection. Instructors have only to select between our Business Law and Legal
Environment volumes of the text and then click on the features they want (as opposed to trying to
compare the large number of texts and packages offered by other publishers). In addition to the features
inherent in any publication, this book offers these unique features:
• Cases are available in excerpted and summarized format, thus enabling instructors to easily “mix and
match” excerpted cases with case summaries.
• Links to forms and uniform laws are embedded in the text. For example, the chapters on contract law
incorporate discussion of various sections of the Uniform Commercial Code, which is available

Option 1:
In the wake of the terrorist attacks in New York on September 11, 2001, a law called the USA Patriot Act was passed by Congress and signed into law by President George W. Bush. Regulations were put into place as a result of this law that increased the powers of various government agencies to engage in surveillance activities on American citizens under broader circumstances than ever before. This called into question for many people whether the legislation trampled on the civil liberties of Americans. Although reforms to the Act have resulted in changes intended to reduce these fears, in a number of court cases, interest groups have engaged in activities in an attempt to influence the outcomes.
Option 2:
In May of 2008, marriage between same-sex couples became legal in California. This situation lasted for only a few short months, and then a proposed amendment to the California Constitution (Proposition 8) was passed by the voters in November of the same year. Both proponents and opponents of same-sex marriage acknowledge that this issue will be in and out of the courts for many years, most likely ending with a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court. The battle for and against Proposition 8 was intensely waged by forces on both sides of the issue. These forces are continuing their activities in hopes of influencing future court outcomes by swaying public opinion and media attention in their favor.
