“Shifting” Contours
• Changing media production and consumption practices
• Technology as key driver & Distribution as Medium
• Local-Global dynamics of media presence
• Powers and Role of Audiences
• Increasing Gap of Local realities and capitalist
representations
• Media failing to REACH in most Roles expected from it
• Media ownership complexities
Shaking Foundations
• Increasing disconnect between Individual and Institution
• Media universe as part of instructional pedagogy than an aid
and disconnect of teacher with the student
• Loosing of diverse classrooms with privatization of media
education and public education at death bed
• Increasing disconnect between practice, pedagogy and
aspirations
• Pedagogy (ideology, textbooks) relevant for Asian contexts
Possible Paradigms !!!
MY UNDERSTANDING is limited to what “i” am exposed to………
• Micro and participatory paradigms are not new anymore in 2020 but macro
takes over and structures &
• UNION to become more relevant now considering discriminatory practices
and processes within public/private even Civil Society structures
• Framework of ‘CONTEXT’ and ‘SELF’ as ‘Student’ as well as ‘Teacher’
• ACCEPTANCE & TOLERANCE of ‘other’- ‘inclusive’ not as a concept but
practice and REALITY
• Digital not being relevant largely so NEW one may emerge, WE need to
WATCH for it rather than ignoring it…….lets hope it happens ASAP
Conclusions
• Need to create ‘Definitions’ of WHO the stakeholders are like for
other disciplines like Medicine or Nursing or Pharmacy
• As Curriculum planners and teachers let’s attempt Imaginative,
Artistic and Ethical practices
• Academics say “WE educate them you Train them” Industry say
“YOU train them you educate them” but Let’s get together- Its high
time though our mandates are challenging to match!
• Formats to change from Trade school approach OR Ivory tower
programmes to more localized media education institutions- It’s a
DREAM but let’s have it
