Teresa: Hi, my name is Teresa Phillips and I work in Regulatory Affairs & Quality Assurance. Once Alicia has engaged the client and developed a media strategy, Covance is ready to move further into our relationship with the client by conducting a clinical trail. During that clinical trail, there are many interactions with the client. Some of those interactions involve client audits, which is what I’m going to talk to you about today.
Covance Client Interaction Group (CI) within Quality Assurance Services primary responsibilities are to prepare, facilitate and host client audits, regulatory inspections and manage the observations generated from those audits.
Pre-Qualification : Review our capabilities prior to being awarded study or conduct an assessment Project : Review all study protocol documentation to ensure ICH E6 GCP Compliance File : Review study documents for a protocol (i.e. investigator files) prior viewing a site for example For Cause : Review protocol documentation due to a particular cause(s) that potential could be a concerns for he client Regulatory Inspection : FDA to review an operational group and/or sponsor(s) protocol documentation
Our client’s demand changes. In 2008 there were new projects and clients wanted to do a full review of the study documentation to ensure that the protocol is being followed which is normally done on a two year period. So, as you can see in 2009, the need changed to just file audits where the client may want to review the investigator files prior to going out to a site or just review the regulatory documents.

Teresa: Thank you for your time, now I’d like to introduce Mike Lamendola, who will talk to you about his role in the organization. Hi, my name is Mike Lamendola and I work in the Learning & Performance Center. Once Alicia has engaged the client and developed a media strategy, and Theresa has conducted various interactions with the client such as audits, the findings of some of those audits sometimes yield gaps in our staff’s training matrices, or even the identification of a knowledge gap which results in a whole new training altogether. I’m going to talk to you a little bit about the training we provide and who we provide it to.
First I want to give you a high level overview, a 25,000 foot view of what the Learning & Performance Center is and what it offers. The LPC Covance’s global training organization and we have a lot of different services ranging from leadership and employee development, to organizational development, to technical skill development specific to each business unit (which is what I do), and our learning technologies group which is always seeking new and different ways of delivering our services. The management team who supervises the 4 teams you see on the left-hand side of the screen have defined a clear strategy for us to deliver results which help the business achieve it’s critical objectives. The focus of our effort lies in five key disciplines: Technology Enablement – This is where I fit into the picture. We have to be experts in the many different types of technology that Project managers, data managers, and CRAs use in their day-to-day lives at Covance, so that we can teach new people as they come on board and refresh current employees who need to see one or more of the systems multiple times. Now, if we move down to a 10,000 foot view, you can see that I fit in as the technical training for Data Management & Clinops.
Lastly, we delve into a 5,000 foot view, which covers all of the applications we use to collect data and what we as trainers must know inside and out in order to successfully pass along that knowledge to our many audiences. There are 2 ways to collect data here at Covance. They are EDC (or Electronic Data Capture), and paper. We’ll spend some time talking about each. Covance has many clients. As a result, we have several kinds of EDC systems which we can offer as a service to them.
