Evaluating GPU programming Models for the LUMI SupercomputerGeorge Markomanolis
It is common in the HPC community that the achieved performance with just CPUs is limited for many computational cases. The EuroHPC pre-exascale and the coming exascale systems are mainly focused on accelerators, and some of the largest upcoming supercomputers such as LUMI and Frontier will be powered by AMD Instinct accelerators. However, these new systems create many challenges for developers who are not familiar with the new ecosystem or with the required programming models that can be used to program for heterogeneous architectures. In this paper, we present some of the more well-known programming models to program for current and future GPU systems. We then measure the performance of each approach using a benchmark and a mini-app, test with various compilers, and tune the codes where necessary. Finally, we compare the performance, where possible, between the NVIDIA Volta (V100), Ampere (A100) GPUs, and the AMD MI100 GPU.

In this presentation, Yasunori Goto and Qi fuli will talk about basis of NVDIMM, the issues of RAS of Non Volatile DIMM(NVDIMM), and what feature is made and is developing for it.
NVDIMM is expected as new age device recently. Though a cpu can read/write the NVDIMM directly like RAM, the data of NVDIMM remains after power down or reboot. So, on memory database will be one of the good example of usecase of NVDIMM.
Since many people have made great effort for Linux, NVDIMM drivers, filesystems, management command, and many libraries has been well developed for a few years,
However, Yasunori Goto found some issues about RAS(Reliabivity, Availability, and Serviceability) feature of NVDIMM, because characteristic of the NVDIMM is likely mixture of Storage and RAM. For example, NVDIMM does not have hotplug feature because it is inserted at DIMM slot like RAM, but its data must be back-upped/restored like storage.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

3. An Operating System(O.S.) is Software that manages
computer hardware and software resources and
provides common services for computer programs.
The Operating System is an essential component of
system software .
Application programs usually require an operating system
to function.
For hardware functions such as input and output and
memory allocation, it act as intermediate between
program and computer hardware.
4. The codes are executed directly by hardware and
will frequently make a SYSTEM CALL to an
operating system to be interrupted by it.
Operating systems can be found in almost every
devices form- Cellular phones to Video games
consoles to super computers and many more.
There’s nothing wrong in saying that no device can
work without an operating system.
Examples :- Microsoft Windows, MacOS , Android,
iOS , Linux , UNIX , etc.
5. The operating system (OS) is the program which starts
up when you turn on your computer and runs
underneath all other programs - without it nothing would
happen at all.
In simple terms, an operating system is a manager. It
manages all the available resources on a computer, from
the CPU, to memory, to hard disk accesses.
Tasks the operating system must perform:
◦ Control Hardware
◦ Run Applications
◦ Manage Data and Files
◦ Security
6. Real Time:- It is a MULTITASKING operating System that
aims execution of real-time applications. They use
scheduling algorithm to achieve deterministic behavior.
They provide quick and predictable response to events.
A event-driven system switches between tasks based on
PRIORITIES.
MULTI-USER:-- A Operating system allow multiple
users to access a computer system at same time.
TIME SHARING system and internet servers can be
classified as Multi-user access to a computer
through the sharing of time.
7. Time Sharing: Time sharing operating system
schedule tasks for efficient use of the system and
may also include accounting software for cost
allocation of processor time, mass storage,
printing, and other resources.
MULTI-Tasking:- A operating system allows more
than one program to run at same time. A single –
tasking system has only one running program
Multi-tasking can be of two types
i) Pre-emptive
ii) Co-operative
8. The PlayStation 3 system software is the
updatable firmware and operating system of the PlayStation 3.
The process of updating is almost identical to that of
the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 4.
The software may be updated by downloading the update
directly on the PlayStation 3, downloading it from the user's
local Official PlayStation website to a PC and using a USB
storage device to transfer it to the PlayStation 3, or installing
the update from game discs containing update data.
The native operating system of the PlayStation 3 is CellOS,
which is a branch from the FreeBSD project. The 3D computer
graphics API software used in the PlayStation 3
is LibGCM and PSGL, based on OpenGL ES and Nvidia's
Cg. The PlayStation 3 uses the XrossMediaBar (XMB) as
its graphical user interface.
The initial slim PS3s SKU shipped with a unique firmware with
new features, also seen in software 3.00.
The current version of the software, 4.60, was made available
on June 24, 2014.
