Most platyhelminthes are flatworms that are either free-living or parasitic. They lack organs and tissues like a coelom and circulatory system. While many species reproduce through "penis fencing", they also share traits like a simple body plan, branched gut system, and nervous system located at the head end. The phylum is diverse but members are generally bilaterally symmetrical invertebrates found in aquatic environments.
