Plaster of Paris is a material made by heating gypsum that is used for molding and sculpting. It can be molded when wet and hardens into a strong structure when dry. In embalming, plaster of Paris can be used to reconstruct faces or body parts to create a natural appearance. Plaster of Paris is formed by heating gypsum to 300 degrees Fahrenheit and has various uses like orthopedic casts and movie/TV sets. It gets its name from large gypsum deposits located in Paris. When water is added, plaster of Paris rehydrates and hardens through a chemical reaction.
