Roots
Many plants have 3 parts
Trivia!
What do we call the stem of a tree?
The trunk!
We can classify plants by their stems...
1. Bushes
2. Trees
3. Grasses
● Shorter than trees
● Can have more than one stem
● Low branches
Bushes
Bushes
Trees
● The tallest plants.
● High branches
● Their stem is called a trunk
Trees
Grasses
● Short, thin stems.
● Flexible and bendy.
Grass
Flowering Plants
and
Non-Flowering Plants
Flowering Plants
Angiosperms Gymnosperms
They make
flowers and fruit.
The seeds are
developed
inside the fruit.
Gymnosperm
seeds are
developed inside
the cones
Gymnosperms do
not make fruit.
Is this tree an
Angiosperm or
Gymnosperm?
Gymnosperm!
Non-Flowering Plants
Mosses and Ferns are non-
flowering plants.
Non-flowering plants use spores to
reproduce.
Reproductive Organs
of Flowering Plants
Where are the reproductive organs?
They are inside
the flowers!
What part of the flower attracts insects?
The petals!
The petals are bright and colorful.
They attract insects, like bees!
What part of the flower makes pollen?
The Stamens
The stamens produce
pollen.
Insects or the wind
carry the pollen.
What are the two parts of the carpel?
The seeds grow in the carpel.
There are two parts of the
carpel:
1. Stigma
2. Ovary
The Carpel
What Is Photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis is
how plants make food.
It is a process.
Plants need these things
for photosynthesis:
-Water
-Minerals
-Carbon dioxide
-Light energy
Here’s the process of photosynthesis:
1. Roots absorb minerals and water.
1. They are transported to the leaves through the stem.
1. Light energy and carbon dioxide enter through the leaves.
1. The water, minerals, and carbon dioxide react with help from light energy and
make the food.
1. The food goes to every part of the plant.
1. The plant gives oxygen into the air.
