Plants evolved from green algae. Mosses were the first plants and developed ways to stick to the ground. Mosses with tall bits developed into stems, but needed a way to transport water to the highest cells, so they evolved pipes. Roots then evolved to support the tippy stems and provide water. Waxy skin developed to prevent water loss in plants. Flowers later evolved which were beneficial for reproduction. Plants are classified based on their seeds and vascular tissue.
